  1. dr15 you are absolutely right. after losing the suit to sun microsystems M$ can't provide JVM (Java Virual Machine). Doggie is right too that he installed SP1 and fixed the problem. The thing is that after losing the suit M$ pulled out the JVM and launched another Service Pack called as SP1a. Anyone who have the full install of SP1 (133MB) can have JVM pretty easily while those who don't have it should try JRE by Sun Microsystems. I would certainly not reccommend having a VM from not so reliable source. cheers
  2. what did you install-uninstall or change in your system that started giving you this problem? any changes that you made to your PC? do you have system restore switched on with your PC? if yes then did you try to go to a restore point?
  3. don't u think winamp is a bit of pain in neck when it comes to tag editing? editing tags of one or two MP3 files is a different thing but you have loads of them to work with then you are surely better off with a nice tool.
  4. you just need a tag editor. there are so many of them on net that pointing towards one would be wrong. anyways a few very good ones are Dr. Tag MP3 Cat Tag Scanner a nifty tool...but paid one is Moodlogic you can search for tag-editors on google and find as many as u like!
  5. whats the problem with having OE and JVM? btw if you don't want to use them you can simply turn to other programs as defaults. it is a nifty feature that M$ added in XP with SP1.
  6. which type of file are you trying to open and with which software? can you provide us with a screenshot?
  7. you seem to be trying to open a shortcut while the file to which the shortcut links to has been moved. check that the file was not moved and then try opening with a new shortcut.
  8. right click on start button. chose properties. under Start Menu tab, click on customize against "Start Menu" radio button. go to advanced tab and uncheck "Highlight newly installed programs". cheers!
  9. do you remember, what were the changes you made just before you started getting this problem? do you have a DSL or a dial-up connection? If you have a DSL, then check that under LAN settings you have "automatically detect settings" while if you have a dial-up then check that it "never dials" a connection itself. usually IE6 changes its view to windows explorer when you visit a FTP site. go to tools-->interent options-->advanced uncheck the "Enable folder view for FTP sites".
  10. thanx for the welcome MSNwar. nope lepios is not my name, its just a nick. in whole ofcourse..."asklepios" is one word! name of a greek god infact,
  11. okay...as you say! it came from microsoft! :peace:
  12. there are bulk spam softwares out there that can use any .com server name. i don't know how you check SMTP server address but using @microsoft.com is not a confirmation that it came from M$
  13. i would beg to differ with you Mr. Doggie. before i mention something...have you ever installed SP1 on an illegit copy. anyways thats not my point. there can be 'n' number of reasons behind SP1 not being able to check the license of the computer. three most important of them are: - 1) cryptographic service stopped or disabled 2) use of XP-AntiSpy 3) manual unregistering of Licdll.dll or Regwizc.dll files
  14. So is the problem solved? did you check that cryptographic service was running? do you have XPAntiSpy up and running? did you ever unregister Licdll.dll or Regwizc.dll files, either manually or by using XPAntiSpy?
  15. gamehead200 you are right. Use norton ghost and make a bootable CD from it. this will help you everytime your install fails. you can keep backing up your files on d: and then restore them. if you don't want to do all this and the only situation you want is to have two copies of XP, then answer would be "yes, you can do so.". just pop your bootable CD in and rather than chosing recovery console, chose new install. now when it asks for the partition...just select the D: drive and install as you would do in normal circumstances. now whenever you boot you'll have two choices. the upper one will be the newer install i.e d: in your case.
  16. how come you know its from microsoft? i thought they never send such crap!
  17. if you are on network then stopping net send might effect your ability to recieve and send messages across to other PC's. here http://www.stopmessengerspam.com/ will help you and it is completely free. messengerblocker.com charges for same kinda solution. btw i can't agree with XPerties more. if you are on a stand alone PC, stop the messenger service. it will not only stop those pop-ups but will also save you some precious memory!
  18. Now don't you think that post is a bit incomplete. anyways... Do you have Norton Anti-Virus or Norton Internet Security? Does it happen to every secure site you try to visit or just some particular websites? What kind of files did you delete? Do you have system restore switched on at your system? If yes did you try to go back to a particular working restore point? I found this article to help you out. JSI tip Hope all this helps.
  19. and what was the name of the folder in which you found all these files?
  20. if you have got chk files to recover from the try UnCHK. If you have access to disk through anyway, try Disk Investigator
