  1. Has anyone had similar problems? I have an old Compaq laptop with Zyxel G100 WLAN-card

    and Odyssey Client.

    After I install 98SE SP 2.0.1 the Odyssey CLient hangs on startup with following messages:

    ODHOST caused an invalid page fault in module ODSERVICE.DLL at 0167:1009ecaf.

    Clicking OK gives:

    ODHOST

    CoCreateInstance failed

    Status is 0x80040154

    Any ideas? If I dont install SP 2.01 and install only all the updates from Windowsupdate,

    I have no problems.

    Hi, Could you update or re-install your drivers?

  2. 2. Add newest TTF fonts from 2K3/XP servicepacks? YES

    3. Add Q272620 - Q272621 sysdm.cpl 4.10.2224? YES

    Agree.

    7. Add just only one file from Jet35sp3.exe (msjet35.dll) or the wohole update? So far I added just one file

    Whole update or just one file... What's the matter?

    8. Add Recommended update: Active Accessibility 1.2? Not sure yet.

    9. Add Recommended update: Registration Wizard update? Not sure yet.

    10. Add Recommended update: Critical Update Notification 4.0? Not sure yet.

    11. Add Recommended update: Euro Conversion Tool? Not sure yet.

    Personally I don't want to add them. First, they're recommended. Second, some people doesn't need (or like) them.

    15. Add Windows XP skin? Probably no.

    Agree. I think, any cosmetic enhancements should be optional at least.

    20. Add MS Virtual Machine rev. 3810 update? Probably no, depending on Gape.

    This update is marked as critical. Also, it does not affect Sun JVM. If you have Sun JVM, it continues to work as primary Java VM.

    On the other hand, it is big, I'm not sure now.

    23. Replace Adaptec ASPI 4.60 by ASPI 4.71.2? Probably good idea, 4.60 is recommended ASPI layer for Windows 95 only.

    Could you check this link ?

    24. Add so-called msinfo registry entries for fixes that are not required by Windows Update? I suppose YES but I'm not sure if there is any situation when they are needed.

    25. Add QFECheck registry entries? I suppose YES but not sure in which way, whether every fix separated or one big entry for all files. This is good to see whwther any componet got accidently overwritten by older version or not.

    Please, don't forget that bigger registry causes slower Win98. Maybe a few WinUpdate registries should not affect the system much, but generally Win98 users has low CPU and RAM resources.

    26. Add The Microsoft® Layer for Unicode™? Probably no, it seems to be useless alone.

    Don't agree. Because if a program uses it (i.e. MSN Messenger), SP will update the Unicode Layer to the latest version.

    27. Add complete vcredist.exe package from Visual Studio 6.0 SP5? YES

    28. Add complete Visual Basic 5.0 Run-time Files? YES

    29. Add complete Visual Basic 6.0 SP5 Run-Time Redistribution Pack? YES

    30. Add complete Dial-Up Networking 1.4 package? YES

    31. Add complete DCOM98 1.3 package? YES

    Agree. But, SE SP has complete packages, too.

    32. Import all relevant registry entries from KB835732 patch fror NT4? YES

    Did I miss something?

    33. Add Jet 4.0 SP8 Database Engine? NO

    34. Add MDAC 2.8 SP1? NO

    35. Add MSXML 2, 3, 4 updates? Probably NO

    36. NUSB 2.2? NO, ME files.

    37. USBMSD driver? NO, not many devices supported.

    Agree.

    38. RKS (Polish sesp version)? Don't know.

    39. NTFS Read Support (NL sesp)? Don't know

    I think NTFS support is not a good idea. IMHO, there is not any good totally free NTFS reader for Win98.

    Yes, any opinion. :rolleyes:

    48. Accelerator keys patch for Notepad? Good for those who don't like Metapad. Will see.

    Probably, I will return to patched Notepad.

    What unified name to use for Windows 4.10.1998 and the Service Pack? There are several variants:

    ...

    I recommend fesp201en or 98fesp201en.exe.

  3. I know there were some discussins about it, but I think that adding Q282949 and Q314941 is absolutely harmless - it can only improve things if unpatched WBEM 1.5 or original XP ICS client is installed, and will does nothing if these are not installed. It could be implemented like this:

    ...

    All necessary files have 88 KB packed, it is 0,5% of the SESP2.0 size.

    What do you think?

    I agree!

    one idea regarding the build environment.

    ...

    What do you think?

    I agree again. I explored most DDF, SED and INF details myself. So, they was not as useful as I hope.

    I changed my environment. Thanks! :thumbup

  4. Q240896: opengl32.dll 4.1.1381.7035

    (already sent by e-mail)

    Got it, thanks!
    Also the features list at http://exuberant.ms11.net/98sesp.html should be reviewed and either corrected or added functionality to SESP - the statement what packages are included may be misledaing because you just add some updated files, noth the whole packages. I'm now reviewing this for FESP so I don't know exact differences.

    Please, give me an example. Sometimes, we don't need whole package, but it doesn't mean that we don't have it. We don't have to add all files, because some of these files are already in the original Win98 SE.

    Note that: I made my DCOM list with help a MVP. Please check this site.

  5. And what about New 98 FE + 98 SE + ME patches available?

    There are a bunch of fixes not included in SP now, including interesting unofficial KRNL386.EXE patch.

    Most of them are already included in the SP 2.0.1.

    I checked it again, I only missed Q323708 (NSCIRDA.SYS), and unofficial patches: KRNL386.EXE, VOLTRACK.VXD.

    I'm not sure about these unofficial patches. I want to include them, but they should be optional at least.

  6. I've install the SP on my computer.

    I've checked the graphic interface and extra tweaks (requires 64MB).

    I have 160 RAM. succesfull. please reboot.

    system won't start up. shows "an application performed a fatal exception" etc.

    same with safe-mode.

    restored the last succesfull registry. now I get the older desktop color (win98, not 2K), but with the same error. tried not to process autoexec etc. no good.

    command prompt won't let me access to the CD.

    startup disk lets me access CD, but setup comes up with an error about requiring max. file size (do I need to edit the system.ini ?), which wasn't there before.

    How the hell do I get my machine to work???!??

    michal.

    Could you write the exact error message?

    Also, a list of your hardware may be helpful.

  7. File changes in the next version of the SP:

    * Add OPENGL32.DLL [from Q240896].

    * Add NSCIRDA.SYS [from Q323708].

    * Update NWPP32.DLL [to updated Q250876].

    * (?) Add MSWRD632.WPC [from Q885836].

    * (?) Add MSWRD832.CNV [from Q841532].

    * (?) Add JPEGIM32.FLT [from QCONVPCK.EXE].

    * (?) Update EXPLORER.EXE [to IE401SP2].

    Do you agree? Did I missed something?

    Other changes I did:

    * Replaced "MaxFileCache" setting with 512FIX.EXE tool [i wrote it in NSIS. It detects the system memory, if the system memory is more than 512 MB, it adds "MaxFileCache" setting].

    Other changes I will:

    * Remove modified EXPLORER.EXE and SHELL32.DLL.

    * Better uninstaller [i hope].

  8. - clean install of 98SE + SP2.01

    Immediately after installing SP2.01, in Control Panel ... System ... System Properties pane, it no longer shows the Processor.  It only shows the amount of RAM installed.

    It happened on two different computers I clean installed.  Everything seems to be running fine and I could live with this "error" but it would be nice if I could get it back.  It just seems wrong :).  Thanks.

    The reason of that problem [as Petr explained previously] is updated SYSDM.CPL file. It fixes a very minor cosmetic bug, but I doesn't display CPU info.

    So, I think we can remove this SYSDM.CPL file from the SP.

  9. Ok, decided to do things Gape's way, but I still can't install the Samsung printer (only one I care about).  As it finishes its install the program mentions "printer repair/install failure", and no matter if I uninstall, reinstall or try a repair install of the drivers, it doesn't work.  No printer is showing up in the "Printers" except my crummy Lexmark.  Don't know what to do next.

    These USB 2.2 drivers are generally for storage-based devices Flash Disks, Cameras etc. So you need to (re)install your printers' drivers individually.

    Has your printers USB connection? Did they work previously before these packs?

  10. 1.  Reinstalled the 98SE2ME, using the #1 selection.

    2.  Installed the 2.0 Unofficial Windows SE Service Pack.

    Please install these packs in this order:

    1- Remove all related (printer) drivers from Add/Remove Programs and Device Manager in Safe Mode.

    2- Boot in normal mode.

    3- Close ALL open programs (antivirus, ICQ, etc.).

    4- Install Service Pack.

    5- Install 982ME.

    6- Install USB 2.2 drivers.

    Service Pack and 982ME has newer and better USB files, so they contain some USB improvements.

  11. Windows 98 SE FDISK: no problem with 137GB, cosmetical errors for >=100 GB

    Windows 98 SE FORMAT: no problem with 137GB, small cosmetical error for >xxGB?

    Windows 98 SE CHKDSK: display correctly

    Windows 98 SE SCANDISK (DOS): OK

    Windows 98 SE formatting (GUI): OK

    Windows 98 SE SCANDISK (GUI): won't start (insufficient memory)

    Windows 98 SE DEFRAG (GUI): won't start (insufficient memory)

    Thanks!

    Did you try Updated FDISK (from Microsoft) and Tihiy's SCANDISK (1.0) ?

  12. i'm not sure if this is matter of applying latest SP 2.0 final but when i restart in MS-DOS mode and i write command Scandisk/all to scan my disk drives nothing happend  the window stays reading and nothing .. all the time was OK.. now i wonder how i can re-activate this feature.. does anyone knows anything about it ?? ..i got now installed SP 2.01 ..but the problem still remains ..  maybe there's some command disabled by some application for DOS.. so far i see my scandisk now works only under Windows but not in DOS.. some other commands like scanreg  still works.

    any ideas?

    Could you try to Scandisk in MS-DOS mode from F8 menu ?

    Did you try to Scandisk a individual partition like: Scandisk C: ?
