  1. After installing the sp2 beta3 I cannot get my external usb harddrive to work. If I follow the default route of installing/updating the drivers, the device disappears and if I try to do it manually, I end up with a BSOD at boot:

(Invalid vxd dynamic link call from NTMAPHLP (02) + 00000002 to device "004f" service 1).

I've got a drive image from the point before I installed the sp, so I can easily recreate the process if that helps resolve this.

I think one of the USB-related hot-fixes causes this problem. Can you write your USB drive's details (brand-model)? Do you have latest drivers for your USB drive and for your mainboard?

  2. And I've just found out that v2.0b3 of Win98se SP does NOT include the rsaenh.dll file.  It was featured in previous versions such as in v1.62 and earlier.  Hopefully Gape will correct that mistake and include that missing file.

erpdude8, 2.0b3 includes rsaenh.dll as instrsa.dll. Because, Windows 98 SE original CABs include this file as instrsa.dll. I renamed it for better support for slipstreaming.

  3. Updated wupdmgr.exe file not included.  I sent this file to you Gape.

Unicows.dll file version 1.0.4018.  New version of unicows.dll file is

now version 1.1.3790.  Go to mdgx's web site and download new Unicows file.

Gdi.exe & Gdi32.dll files.  Version 4.10.2225 is correct but version DATES are NOT.

Those 2 gdi files are dated 8/20/1999 < wrong date!  Date should be 3/20/2001

just like the ones from the Q289635 Win98 patch.

HTML Help files from XP SP2.  Mdgx has revised his Html Help 1.41 package that

includes Html Help files from Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 RC1 which

is version 5.20.3790.1289.  Also fixes a recent security problem mentioned in

microsoft security bulletin ms05-001 & ms article 890175.

Wupdmgr.exe didn't included because of 98lite Sleek compatibility. GDI*.* files are exactly same versions from the hot-fix. I didn't modify their dates.

All other files will be in the 2.0.

  4. And can you be more specific?

What is the difference between the two files?

What is the slipstreamsupport? Can I just copy sp2 to my cd or what?

You don't have any documentation released yet about the sp.

    OK ;)

RBUPDATE has two versions of MSDAIP.DLL. One of them is for Windows 98 SE with Office 2000 or XP installed, the other is for Windows 98 SE without Office 2000 or XP installed.

It contains a detection utility for installing the proper version.

Semi-slipstreaming support (as I explained before, nothing changed) is for slipstreaming most of the hot-fixes into Windows 98 SE setup. If you extract the contents of the SP2.CAB into your Windows 98 SE setup folder, Windows's setup will use these fixed and newer files during installation. I called it "semi", because it only contains the hot-fixes only, not contains all features of the SP.

  5. Yes I use english version. I not use 98lite.

Gape were is Unofficial PowerArchiver 6.11 Update????

    I can not download it???

PowerArchiver 6.11 Update is now useless because of new RAR (v3) and 7z formats. I recommend some other freeware ZIP suites such as TUGZip, IZArc...

About Notepad problem: SP only patches Notepad.exe if it is original "Notepad.exe". Perhaps your Notepad.exe has different from original Windows 98 SE English Notepad.exe.

  6. Just a little message to Gape:

I made an inf file that installs a dll in the windows directory, that dll contains Windows Me icons and the inf file write infos in the registry to change the defaults desktop icons. There is also an uninstall feature.

If you are interested let me know and i send you the files.

WebMatze: Send it please via email.

    Thanks!

  7. @azagahl: 2.0 Beta 3 is quite stable, I have found some minor cosmetic bugs so far.

    @cozetti: Good!

@hp38guser: It is not a problem, they are installed by other files (for example: MSDAIPP.DLL is installed by RBUPDATE.EXE). For slipstreaming support, they are in the SP2.CAB, too.

@mkjp: Do you have English version? Are you using 98lite?

  8. I will maintain only English version of SP. I will not make any localized version of SP. But other contributors can make localized versions. I do support them. So if you have basic knowledge about INF and BATCH files, you can do a French version.

After releasing 2.0 FINAL, I will write a detailed localization guide on this forum.

  9. All,

I recommend that you should try this BETA on a test system, or on VirtualPC, or on VMWare.

Especially, I couldn't test 98lite Sleek support and Uninstallation support very well.

If you install it with or without problems, please write on this topic.

Please, don't write any new feature request for this version. All new feature requests should be for 2.1.

Special thanks to: MDGx, erpdude, CLASYS, Tarun, safir, hp38guser, DanyBoss, swgreed, egorz, sybesma, Rob, DuckDaffy, and all other contributors. If I missed your name, please PM me, because I will add a "thanks" section into 2.0 FINAL.

  10. I have just completed BETA 3.

Sorry, but I have to call it as BETA. Because, it has lots of new hot-fixes and "New Desktop Icons" feature doesn't exist. But, all other announced features are OK such as Better Notepad, Uninstallation, 98lite Sleek support.

I'm testing it now. I hope I will release it tomorrow.

I need web space for upload. If anyone has space for the SP, could he contact me via email?

  11. Windows 9x and Windows ME only supports maximum 1 GB RAM internally. For example, if you have 2 GB RAM, you can only use 1 GB of it. There are also two situations about this limit:

1- VCache problem on 512 MB or more RAM. (It can be solved by adding line into SYSTEM.INI).

2- More than 1 GB RAM problem. (It can be solved by adding line into SYSTEM.INI or with MSCONFIG).

SP fixes both of problems by adding these lines.
