  1. Hi,

    I have a great U-DVD all setup. However, it is not the best setup in terms of file locations.

    Everything runs from the DVD itself. Very few files actually get copied over to the hard drive. This is how I want to keep it.

    I want to know:

    If I put my folders into $OEM$ (not $OEM$\$1 or $OEM$\$$) will they get copied to the hard drive?

    ..|--$OEM$

    .........|-- $1

    .........|-- $$

    ..............|-- System32

    .........|-- Applications

    .........|-- _Tools

    .........|-- cmdlines.txt

    ..|--cmpnents

    ..|--I386

    ..|--SETUP.EXE

    Again, I don't want the folders "Applications" and "_Tools" to be copied to the hard drive. I just want all my OEM stuff in one place, if possible.

    Will this work? or will everything in $OEM$ get copied during the text-setup?

    to make this a little more clear, i'd layout everything as described above, and then run it, like so:

    cmdow @ /HID
    @ECHO OFF

    for %%i in (C D E F G H I J K L M N O P Q R S T U V W X Y Z) do if exist %%i:\WIN51 set CDROM=%%i:

    start %CDROM%\$OEM$\WPI\WPI.hta

    EXIT

While the definitions are indeed updated daily, Symantec recommends that you use the "release" updates that are put out weekly or bi-weekly (I forget now).  The daily updates can have virus definitions that are so new that they have not undergone the appropriate testing.  So they're more or less considered for the advanced user.

    is there a page on Symantec's site offering the latest 'officially released' update?

    i also agree that it is very similar to wpi, but i have some suggestions:

    1) add our own customization buttons (ex: 'select all', 'select none', 'Default config 1', 'laptop config'). This can be easily defined by having a line somewhere that goes like:

    laptop config = UID1, UID2, etc.

    so whatever UID is listed there will be selected when that option is chosen.

    2) make it more professional looking. the boxes on the left are too wide, and take up too much space

    3) make the dependent programs automatically-select the things that are needed, instead of blocking them from installing until the other is checked.

  4. 3 it depends if you want extensions or themes

    assuming i dont install anything extra, besides what the "Firefox 1.0 Silent Installation (SiMoNsAyS)" package comes with, do i need anything else (besides the installer, SFX, and cmd)?

    also, with the "ctrl+f to search, integrated on firefox", is there a way to close it via keyboard shortcut? or only clicking the "X"?

    I installed "Firefox 1.0 Silent Installation (SiMoNsAyS)"

    I changed the link on my desktop to "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -profile defaults\profile"

    I added my Bookmarks to firefox

    I setup my Options

    I managed my Toolbars

    1) now I want these exact settings for each fresh install. what do i do to accomplish this?

    just create a SFX of C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\defaults\profile, and extract it (overwrite whatever is there) on after clean install of "Firefox 1.0 Silent Installation (SiMoNsAyS)"??

    2) do I need "Firefox Installation Settings" - that cmd file from the first post?

    3) is there anything else i need to do??

    4) what's "xpi" and "jar"?

  6. it's amazing how intimidating this post is.

    as a long-time IE user (all I have to do after a clean install is copy my favs), I am willing to make the switch, but I tried once, unsuccessfully.

    I want a default profile, with toolbars where I want them, and no problems compared to IE (ex: extra plugins/extensions/whatever) needed.

    Also, I remember a problem with the googlebar. in IE, you can type words into the googe search text area, and word buttons appear (which, when clicked, take you to each instance of the word on the page). I understand this feature is not in Firefox?
