  1. So the man claiming performance gains by altering the core# in startup options was clearly mistaken then?
  2. This makes sense. So would changing the boot options be completely pointless?
  3. I recently acquired a netbook with an Intel N450 chip. Although experts claim this is a single-core chip, I've read a couple reviews stating: "I didn't realize until after purchase that the Intel Atom N450 is seen as a dual core processor" "I shortened the reboot time from 78 seconds to 55 seconds by configuring bootup to use 2 processors (Start, msconfig, Boot, Advanced options)" So what is going on here? I know this processor isn't touted as being dual-core, but if it won't cause any damage I'd like to try setting XP up to see it as one (like the second user apparently did).

    RECYCLER Folder?

Thanks for the reply - cool avatar. The files are quite large and I'm looking to get my install as small as possible for backup image purposes (to fit on a usb). (I also would really like to know why this folder isn't hidden and why these files weren't deleted)

    RECYCLER Folder?

That's the other thing - this folder is supposed to be hidden but on my system it's not. I just remembered that when I was recently setting up a sync program I deleted the mirrored version of "My Documents". The sync itself involved copying "My Documents" to a separate partition on my hard drive. Thanks

    RECYCLER Folder?

I'm not multi-booting, and the only removable drive I've used is a small thumb-drive that has been plugged into one other computer. There is only one user account on my system, I don't know if it has administrator status. Looking at my user folder in "Documents and Settings", the RECYCLER folder there contains a folder starting in "S-1-5-21". Here is the folder tree within: -Dd5 --Programs ---Startup (apparently empty) -Dd12 --Application Data --Docs --Firefox --Local Settings --My Documents --Start Menu The "My Documents" folder here is fairly in-tact but outdated. Has some old files (that I no longer have) and doesn't have some new files. Some of the files that are there I still have in the real "My Documents".
  7. After some research it seems this folder is supposed to be hidden, but it is visible and located in my user directory in "Documents and Settings". I also read that this folder is the recycle bin, yet, although I recently emptied the Recycle Bin, RECYCLER has an exact copy of all my user files (Application Data, My Documents, etc.). What is going on here? I'd like to delete this folder's contents.
  8. I see a lot of free players, but what about a free EQ that works on things like YouTube? I don't need some big program, just a decent EQ.
  9. Good one Ajax2001 - thanks
  10. Let's see 'em!!
  11. No I don't have any taskbar shortcuts (I like all the taskbar real estate I can get).
  12. I've set the Windows Explorer shortcut found in the start menu to open into C:\, however, when I open Windows Explorer using the hotkey combination Windows Key + E it opens into My Computer. How can I change this behavior to mimic that of the Start Menu shortcut? I realize that a hotkey can be assigned to the start menu shortcut, however, I would like to use the Windows Key + E hotkey. Big Thanks

    Lost Boot Defrag

I opted to eliminate MS's defrag using nLite - so it makes sense that now boot defrags are impossible. Is there an easy way to restore this function? Thanks
  14. Silly me. Thanks for the help
  15. I'm hesitant to try it because I'm not sure how to change the channel - if necessary.
  16. I'm pretty much leery of anything with Dell's name on it... They definitely make it sound important: 1. Desktop System Software (DSS) or Notebook System Software (NSS) - A vital utility that provides critical updates and patches for the operating system. If you are reinstalling Windows or updating all drivers, it is important that this software be installed first. This is located under the System Utilities Category on the Drivers and Downloads page. Thanks
  17. Home user here. Is there any advantage to doing this before (via nLite) rather than after installing the nLite OS? One advantage to doing Windows Updates after is it would be quicker than individually downloading all Hotfixes. Thank you

    Some easy nLite Q's

    1) Can nLite Remove the Media Center from XP MCE leaving XP Pro only? 2) If so, I will be using a Dell OEM CD and I'd like to avoid installing any of the included Dell bloat. Would it be wise to disable the "OEM Preinstall" option? My configuration is a simple Dell laptop with one hard drive. 3) Regarding user accounts. I am the only one using my computer and I do not ever want to be prompted for a password. How should I go about setting this up?
  19. I have loaded my (only) previous session and done some work. If I X out of the program, will it save this, most recent session as well? Or, put more simply, will nLite save each and every session automatically? Thanks

    Bootable ISO

So, by burning an ISO to a DVD, will I then be able to boot that disc into XP to test out my new nlite creation?

    Bootable ISO

Greetings, If I select the option for a bootable ISO, I'm wondering if/how I will be able to use that disc to complete a full install. Thank you
