Help with adding user to WinXP SP2
Sanjay replied to mssaad66's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Firstly, I think "useraccounts.cmd" should be before "regedit /s settings.reg" in the cmdlines.txt Secondly, you cannot use 'Administrator' as the 'Computer Name'. Finally, let me ask you something, are you trying this in VMWare or are you having this problem with a real installation? The reason I ask this is, that I was getting the same message when I was trying my CD in VMWare, but when I tried a real installation with a real CD, everything went just fine. -
Can someone please give 'step by step' directions on how to replace notepad.exe with metapad.exe on the unattended CD. Thanks.
-
Maybe the following has something to do with it: "C:\WINDOWS\System32\dllcache (NB: in XP SP2 this has changed to C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386)" This is as per "http://liquidninja.com/metapad/faq.html#Q28", although I personally have not found any such folder and I have slipstreamed SP2 on my PC.
-
Since you have renamed the file metapade.exe to notepad.exe, what purpose would be served by applying Metapad filters to "[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\metapad]"? Also what do these filters do anyhow? Thanks.
-
Shouldn't this "then use modifype on notepad.exe" come before this "then do a makecab notepad.exe"?

Hotfixes For Windows XP Professional SP2
Sanjay replied to Aaron's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer for XP SP2 (KB834707) How to slipstream the hotfix into the unattend CD. 1. Thanks 'Bâshrat the Sneaky', I think I got it working with your help. Ofcourse I won't know for sure till I can test the CD on a real PC which will be tommorow. For now it seems the "/s" switch works just fine.

There is no such folder created. But what you can do is: 1. Go to your temp folder "C:\Documents and Settings\YourUserName\Local Settings\Temp" and delete all files from there to avoid confusion with any existing files. 2. Run the main Diskeeper 9.0 'setup.exe' file, when the first window pops up asking you to press NEXT to proceed, Important: DO NOT cancel. 3. Go to the temp folder "C:\Documents and Settings\YourUserName\Local Settings\Temp", copy the .msi file there (size 17.9 MB [18,787,328 bytes]) and save it to another place. 4. Rename the .msi file to Diskeeper.msi 5. Use 'Diskeeper.msi' for the unattended install with the /qn switch.

They had to make it hard for me. I looked at and compared all five with the Setup Screen of 'ioware-w32-x86-402.exe' and it is not similiar to any of them. Now what?
-
How does one tell from the setup window what kind of installer it is?
-
Personally I have not had this problem with the previous nForce - Unified Driver Package 4.27. It is only with the current version 5.10 that I have had the problem.
-
Yes 'IomegaWare™ 4.0.2' is an installer and the file name is 'ioware-w32-x86-402.exe'. Thus what I need are the proper switches to silent install it. Maybe I should have posted this in the 'Application Switches' section.
-
I too would like an answer to this one. Thanks.
-
I have an 'Iomega 100 internal IDE' drive and would like to be able to install it's drivers and utilities (IomegaWare) thru a silent install via start.cmd (unless there is another better way). Could someone please help with this? Thanks.

I would like to setup multiple users 'X', 'Y' & 'Z' but I do not want to setup any passwords for these users. I would prefer to let the individual users set their passwords later, on their own. Also, I would like unattended setup to automatically login user 'X' as default and finish installing windows and to install 'start.cmd'. But I do not want this autologin to be a permanent feature, rather once I shut down the system on my own after Windows installation is finished, I do not want this user 'X' to be automatically logged in anymore and would prefer the 'User Login Page' to appear each time the system is booted. Also can someone tell me, what order does an Unattended Windows install follow in applying the following and at what stage of Windows install do they get applied: 1. winnt.sif 2. svcpack.inf 3. cmndlines.txt a. regtweaks.reg b. useraccounts.cmd 5. autologon.reg 6. start.cmd By the way, I have searched for and have read thru all relevant threads, but have not been able to figure out how to achieve the above. I just hope that it can be done.

This is a warning for those that have an 'Iomega IDE/ATAPI Zip' drive on their computer. Do not install the IDE driver contained in this package it will render your zip drive useless. In case someone is already facing this problem, the solution is to uninstall the nVidia drivers which will install the default Windows XP IDE drivers. I personally figured this out after reinstalling Windows 3 times and the problem would still not go away, not until I stopped using the nVidia IDE drivers that is.

Activate the Network Tray Icon
Sanjay replied to RogueSpear's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
I am a little confused here. Does big poppa pump's winnt.sif method work or not? [Homenet] ShowTrayIcon = Yes If the above does nto work, then what is the simplest method to make the 'Network Tray Icon' appear in unattended install? -
I am hoping someone can help me solve my problem. Everything about my unattend Windows installation goes smoothly, except there is one thing that either I don't understand or needs fixing. The problem is that after Windows was done with the instalation I went to user controls and changed my password from "pass" to something else and then I created another user with no password. I then logged off and logged into the other newly created user and did some tweaking etc. I then restarted my computer, this is where the problem started, instead of completely rebooting, the reboot got stalled midway. I tried restartign the computer several times but the boot process kept getting stalled at the same point. I then booted windows in safe mode, this time, at the stage where windows boot was getting stuck, I got a message that the password was incorrect. Apparently this is where the boot process was getting stalled each time, except that the message wasnto getting displayed. I then entered the original password "pass" and windows succesfully booted up. Can someone please help me understand what is going on here and why am I not able to use a new password. Also before I had made another user, why was I able to boot up numerous times without being prompted to enter the password? What is the purpose of the 'AUTOLOGON.REG' file and if i have '"AutoAdminLogon"="1"' then why am I able to automatically logon more than 'once? Any one get AutomaticUpdates to work?
Sanjay replied to jeffsu28's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Take that back, everything works just fine. Actually when I was testing in VMWare it would not work but in a real install everything worked just fine. -
