  1. Excellent update guys Gimp 2.4 and 2.6 which were slow as a pig with the previous version now run beautifully (but the very latest Gimp 2.6.8 does not run at all as the Gimp devellopers felt they needed to add a new dependency in a file that doesn't even exist on 9x systems, dnsapi.dll ) It's now possible to register and use 2K/XP only shell extensions. I am currently testing Open++ and it's all good so far. http://dengdun.webs.com/en/openxx.htm The superb fractal flame renderer Apophysis 2 is now fully functional and runs without a hitch when put in 2K compatibility mode. http://sourceforge.net/projects/apophysis/ (The more featured Apophysis7x variant has the same issues as the regular version but they don't go away when changing compatibility mode btw http://sourceforge.net/projects/apophysis7x/) The latest version of the Riot image optimization tool is now running fine. http://luci.criosweb.ro/riot/ The latest version of the excellent free photoshop plugin SmartCurve is now fully functional. http://free.pages.at/easyfilter/curves.html All VST audio plugins compiled with the latest (and still beta) version of Synthedit now run as normal instead of failing to initialize. Cheers
  2. Well I have been using chunk values of 16kb and 4096kb and I can't say I have seen much of a perceptible difference if any. Presumably chunk size is akin to cluster size in a filesystem and should have the same advantages/inconveniences as those, eg small size would mean less wasted space but more propensity to be fragmented perhaps. If someone knows better, let us know.
  3. Cheers for this new version of KernelEx Xeno
  4. Well VCache is disk data cached in memory for reaccessing that data without needing to fetch it to disk again so the higher the max value the better IMO. The maximum size VCache can have is 800MB if I am not mistaken but out of memory issues with some applications are known to exist if it is set to above 512MB.
  5. He is now running another system with 2GB of physical RAM but he has limited the amount Windows can use to 1995MB by adding a MaxPhysPage=7CB00 entry under the [386Enh] section of system.ini. There may be issues with some applications not willing to run with that much RAM installed though (Corel Painter 8 for example) and the way he found to fix them all is to have a fixed swap file of very small size (100MB in his case ATM). Disabling entirely the swap file did yeld other apps not willing to start (MS Digital Image Pro 9 and Adobe Illustrator 10 for example) Next he will buy the RLoew patch and put another 2GB in his rig. Cheers
