1. oops... helped if I specified the path where to dump the sys files: \minint\system32\drivers or \i386\system32\drivers when prompted to overwrite, just overwrite only if the file is newer. Some of the sys files in this pack are old and the ones in WinPE 2004 are newer.
2. ok, since so many people asked, here's what I did. Unrar the rar file from that mega pack site. EDIT: looks like the site went down but doing a quick google search on "WinPE Mass storage drivers" will yield a few sites with links to mirrors. Copy all the *.sys files to your i386/system32 or your minint/system32 (if booting from HD). In the i386 or minint folder open up txtsetup.inf in notepad and paste the following entires to the bottom: [sourceDisksFiles] aec68x5.sys=1,,,,,,_3,4,1 aec671x.sys=1,,,,,,_3,4,1 aec6280.sys=1,,,,,,_3,4,1 aec68x0.sys=1,,,,,,_3,4,1 aec67160.sys=1,,,,,,_3,4,1 adpu320.sys=1,,,,,,_3,4,1 a320raid.sys=1,,,,,,_3,4,1 aar1210.sys=1,,,,,,_3,4,1 aac.sys=1,,,,,,_3,4,1 cda1000.sys=1,,,,,,_3,4,1 cercsr6.sys=1,,,,,,_3,4,1 hpt374.sys=1,,,,,,_3,4,1 hpt371.sys=1,,,,,,_3,4,1 hpt302.sys=1,,,,,,_3,4,1 hpt366.sys=1,,,,,,_3,4,1 hpt3xx.sys=1,,,,,,_3,4,1 hptmv.sys=1,,,,,,_3,4,1 cpqcissm.sys=1,,,,,,_3,4,1 ipsraidn.sys=1,,,,,,_3,4,1 nfrd960.sys=1,,,,,,_3,4,1 iaStor.sys=1,,,,,,_3,4,1 raidsrc.sys=1,,,,,,_3,4,1 symmpi.sys=1,,,,,,_3,4,1 megaide.sys=1,,,,,,_3,4,1 nvraid.sys=1,,,,,,_3,4,1 Fasttx2k.sys=1,,,,,,_3,4,1 fasttrak.sys=1,,,,,,_3,4,1 S150sx8.sys=1,,,,,,_3,4,1 fastsx.sys.sys=1,,,,,,_3,4,1 sptrak.sys=1,,,,,,_3,4,1 ulsata.sys=1,,,,,,_3,4,1 ulsata2.sys=1,,,,,,_3,4,1 ql2100.sys=1,,,,,,_3,4,1 ql2200.sys=1,,,,,,_3,4,1 QL2300.sys=1,,,,,,_3,4,1 pnp649r.sys=1,,,,,,_3,4,1 pnp680.sys=1,,,,,,_3,4,1 pnp680r.sys=1,,,,,,_3,4,1 Si3112r.sys=1,,,,,,_3,4,1 Si3112.sys=1,,,,,,_3,4,1 si3114.sys=1,,,,,,_3,4,1 si3114r.sys=1,,,,,,_3,4,1 si3124.sys=1,,,,,,_3,4,1 si3124r.sys=1,,,,,,_3,4,1 sisraid.sys=1,,,,,,_3,4,1 sisraid1.sys=1,,,,,,_3,4,1 sisraid2.sys=1,,,,,,_3,4,1 siside.sys=1,,,,,,_3,4,1 viamraid.sys=1,,,,,,_3,4,1 viapdsk.sys=1,,,,,,_3,4,1 [sCSI.Load] cpqarray = cpqarray.sys,4 atapi = atapi.sys,4 aha154x = aha154x.sys,4 sparrow = sparrow.sys,4 symc810 = symc810.sys,4 aic78xx = aic78xx.sys,4 i2omp = i2omp.sys,4 dac960nt =dac960nt.sys,4 ql10wnt = ql10wnt.sys,4 amsint = amsint.sys,4 asc = asc.sys,4 asc3550 = asc3550.sys,4 mraid35x = mraid35x.sys,4 ini910u = ini910u.sys,4 ql1240 = ql1240.sys,4 aic78u2 = aic78u2.sys,4 symc8xx = symc8xx.sys,4 sym_hi = sym_hi.sys,4 sym_u3 = sym_u3.sys,4 asc3350p = asc3350p.sys,4 abp480n5 = abp480n5.sys,4 cd20xrnt = cd20xrnt.sys,4 ultra = ultra.sys,4 adpu160m = adpu160m.sys,4 dpti2o = dpti2o.sys,4 ql1080 = ql1080.sys,4 ql1280 = ql1280.sys,4 ql12160 = ql12160.sys,4 perc2 = perc2.sys,4 hpn = hpn.sys,4 cbidf2k = cbidf2k.sys,4 dac2w2k =dac2w2k.sys,4 aec68x5=aec68x5.sys,4 aec671x=aec671x.sys,4 aec62x0=aec6280.sys,4 aec68x0=aec68x0.sys,4 aec67160=aec67160.sys,4 adpu320=adpu320.sys,4 a320ra=a320raid.sys,4 aar1210=aar1210.sys,4 aac=aac.sys,4 aVIKNT=cda1000.sys,4 cercsr6=cercsr6.sys,4 hpt374=hpt374.sys,4 hpt371=hpt371.sys,4 hpt302=hpt302.sys,4 hpt366=hpt366.sys,4 hpt3xx=hpt3xx.sys,4 hptmv=hptmv.sys,4 cpqcissm=cpqcissm.sys,4 ipsraidn=ipsraidn.sys,4 nfrd960=nfrd960.sys,4 iaStor=iaStor.sys,4 raidsrc=raidsrc.sys,4 symmpi=symmpi.sys,4 megaide=megaide.sys,4 nvraid=nvraid.sys,4 Fasttx2k=Fasttx2k.sys,4 Fasttrak=fasttrak.sys,4 S150sx8=S150sx8.sys,4 fastsx=fastsx.sys,4 sptrak=sptrak.sys,4 ulsata=ulsata.sys,4 ulsata2=ulsata2.sys,4 ql2100=ql2100.sys,4 ql2200=ql2200.sys,4 ql2300=QL2300.sys,4 pnp649r=pnp649r.sys,4 pnp680=pnp680.sys,4 pnp680r=pnp680r.sys,4 Si3112r=Si3112r.sys,4 Si3112=Si3112.sys,4 si3114=si3124r.sys,4 si3114r=si3114r.sys,4 si3124=si3124.sys,4 SiSRaid=SiSRaid.sys,4 SiSRaid1=SiSRaid1.sys,4 SiSRaid2=SiSRaid2.sys,4 siside=siside.sys,4 viamraid=viamraid.sys,4 viapdsk=viapdsk.sys,4 [sCSI] sparrow = "Adaptec AHA-151X/AHA-152X/AIC-6X60 SCSI Adapter" aha154x = "Adaptec AHA-154X/AHA-164X SCSI Host Adapter" aic78xx = "Adaptec AHA-294X/AHA-394X/AIC-78XX SCSI Controller" aic78u2 = "Adaptec AHA-294XU2/AIC-7890 SCSI Controller" adpu160m = "Adaptec AIC-789X/AHA-3960 Ultra160 PCI SCSI Card" afcnt = "Agilent HHBA-510x PCI Fibre Channel Controller" dpti2o = "Adaptec 2000S/3000S Ultra160 SCSI RAID Controller" afc9xxx = "Adaptec AFC-9210G PCI 64-bit/66MHz Fibre Channel 2Gbit Controller" asc3550 = "Advansys 3550 Ultra Wide SCSI Host Adapter" asc3350p = "Advansys ABP460 PCMCIA SCSI Host Adapter" abp480n5 = "Advansys ABP480 CardBus SCSI Host Adapter" asc = "Advansys SCSI Host Adapter" amsint = "AMD PCI SCSI Controller/Ethernet Adapter" mraid35x = "AMI MegaRaid RAID Controller" cpqarray = "Compaq Drive Array" cpqfcalm = "Compaq Fibre Channel Host Controller" cpqarry2 = "Compaq Smart Array Controller" cpqcissm ="Compaq Smart Array 5x and 6x Controllers" lp6nds35 = "Emulex LP6000 Fibre Channel Host Adapters" cd20xrnt = "IBM Portable PCMCIA CD-ROM Drive" ipsraidn ="IBM PowerPC ServeRAID Controller" nfrd960 ="IBM ServeRAID 4M/4Mx/4L/4Lx/5i/6M/6i Controller" i2omp = "Intelligent I/O Controller" atapi = "IDE CD-ROM (ATAPI 1.2)/PCI IDE Controller" cbidf2k = "CardBus/PCMCIA IDE Miniport Driver" ini910u = "Initio Ultra SCSI Host Adapter" dac2w2k ="Mylex AcceleRAID/eXtremeRAID RAID Controllers" dac960nt ="Mylex DAC Series RAID Controllers" ultra = "Promise Technology Inc. for all the entries. Since these sections are bracketed in subsections, no need to paste them manually into the rest of the sections, since PE doesn't care and loads them to memory sequentially. So feel free to <control + end> to the end of your txtsetup.sif file and paste everything. Geez, I spent nearly a month on this and it finally worked. Hope this helps people with their headaches! Now I have the ultimate bootable USB key that runs on anything, and it's 100% legit and licensed (translation: kosher for the enterprise). Now have to add ERD commander and some other goodies and we have a pseduo-knoppix like environment to do anything in case of emergency!
3. As long as it's USB 2.0 you won't have an issue. I've done it on numerous USB keys and external USB drives to kick off unattended installations of XP. Trouble will hit you with USB 1-1.1 devices as when WinPE boots up, it'll reinitiate USB1 root controllers, and thus if the kernel is on there, it doesn't like that.
4. the download link for the sound driver pack is invalid (file not found), as well as the Video pack A. I was able to download everything else though.
5. I was able to download the video pack B, but when I try to download A it says file not found?
6. any update on this? I still got this problem.
7. ok that didn't work, but this one did (post by dicht) http://www.911cd.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=10662 Hi, its no big problem to inject controller card drivers (scsi, raid, sata raid) to an Microsoft WinPE. For your information you only need to copy the .sys file to i386\system32\drivers maybe the driver got some .dll files (i dont know of any ctrl. driver that needs that) copy these to i386\system32.You do not need an .inf file cause WinPE loads the driver in that minimized txtsetup before it jumps to the windowsxp bmp screen. The file txtsetup.oem you mentioned is for an unattended txtsetup of windows or for the screen with F6. Now look in your WinPE i386 folder and open txtsetup.sif with notepad or any other great :-) editor. Search for the section [HardwareIdsDatabase] in there you find some generic controllers that WinPE ships. Now do the same with your controller you only need to know the PCi Vendor and Device ID (thats normally written in the inf file) or use an PCI Tool under Windows. for example if I want to implement the ICH6 Sata Raid driver I would write in the Section PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2652&CC_0104 = "iaStor" the CC_0104 you dont need its just for that f***ing controler so it really just loads iastor if raid is enabled in bios.So as you see WinPE now knows if it finds this device to load iaStor , and WinPE for that looks in the section of txtsetup.sif [sCSI.Load] and searchs there for the entry iastor so you have to put in this section something like this iaStor = iaStor.sys,4 the first iastor is the name you gave under the section hardwareidsdatabase and the iastor.sys,4 tells winpe to load iastor.sys so this file must be in the drivers folder. Hope that makes things clearer Best regards dicht
8. ok I figured out how to do this with that driver pack link. You unpack the rar which has a ton of files. In each directory for every driver has a file called txtsetup.oem. These are the entries that you need to add to the textsetup.oem file in i386 (or minint if you're booting from HD). Then do this. Move all the sys files to i386\system32\drivers Move all the inf files to i386\inf Move the remainder files to i386\system32 The only pain in the butt is copying the the txtsetup.oem entries to the master one, and there's a TON of drivers (which is why I was hoping to borrow yours!)
9. LOL I posted that on the other thread. I like your method better... it's so clean!
10. After doing some more research, I found out I'll just wait for your textsetup.oem method. Looks like this is the way to go according to here: http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/help/drivers.htm
11. sweet. This is the portion that WinPE needs to detect mass storage drivers, so this would work REALLY well! *edit* confirmed: http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/help/drivers.htm *edit2* Bashrat, might want to also look here at this driver pack that someone made for BartPE: http://home.earthlink.net/%7E1.414213563/P...eDriversNEW.htm Just to compare drivers, to see if we have them all. I'm too lazy to compare it myself, but from the text, looks like a ton! Your method is better in that it'll support both PE and XP, which is what I need since I'm using PE to install XP unattended.
12. also just curious to see what your time frame is, since if it's close, I'll wait until it comes out and save some headache trying to do it manually and then updating it later. PS: I love your driver packs man!
13. yes, I did a little research, and it seems I have to do both. I tried the dosnet.inf file only, but it didn't work, so I think I need the txtsetup file as well. Only guessing and checking will reveal the truth.
14. although it's not majorly used, might want to include this: KB887472 - Security update for Windows Messenger
15. I'm having problems getting PE to recognize any mass storage drives using WinPE 2004 (WinXP SP2 based). Anyone know how I can use the driver pack and put it in PE? I think it might be simply as appending the file and copying the sys files, but I forget offhand. My original post in the driver pack thread: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=36189&st=80
16. WMI calls to the bios works (for PE 2004 at least, which is WinXP SP2 based). You just have to code it to call it. I use it to poll the model, serial #, and the current bios rom version.
17. Right, but if I wanted to do this manually, I would just copy every .sys file to the i386 folder and update dosnet.inf file with these entries. Is there a need to edit/include the textsetup.sif?
18. Anyone know how I can use these to add the mass storage drivers for winpe?
19. Anyone seen this one? http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;en-us;885443 I had my computer blue screen with this issue on a few occassions.
20. yeah I had the feeling that the SD card method won't work because it's an adaptation of the usb universal storage driver, and not a "true" usb storage driver. I tried this with a cruser 256mb sd card/usb and it did fail. Looks like it has to be a true usb key. As for the tutorial, please give me time, I'm dealing with a lot of relatives at my place and one cousin already downloaded enough pr0n/malware/spyware that I'm going out of my mind. I'll try to do it over the holidays, maybe as a pdf and host it off of one of my servers for all to use.
21. you know what. I'll start a new stick tomorrow and go through the steps 1 by 1 to make a front to end tutorial for everyone. Hopefully this will prevent any confusion.
22. An even easier way is to use the windows cmdcons from your XP cd. (in this example we'll assume D: is your CD drive, and X you assigned to your usb drive) Put your XP cd in the cd drive, open a command line, and on the cd run: "d:\i386\winnt32.exe /cmdcons" Follow the instructions. This step will put a boot.ini file under the X: hard drive so that you have the option of booting into the command console (PE will be used instead for this instance) Take the cd out and grab your PE source CD and put it in the drive. Copy d:\i386 and copy it to the usb drive as X:\minint On your usb key Copy X:\MININT\TXTSETUP.SIF to X:\cmdcons If your hard drive has ntldr and the other files needed in the root, don't do anything. you're done. If not, follow the directions for copying these files from the PE source and drop them to the usb drive. Go to your bios let it boot prior to your IDE drive and you should be good to go.
23. for the hard drives it's the same way, but I used a Ghost image of the USB image and loaded it on a partition on the USB2 hard drive in a 2Gb partition. I tested it on the Archos ArcDisk20 (20 Gb HD, USB2), Lacie 80MB USB2, and the an IBM 40 Gb External USB2 hard drive (the one they bundle with rapid restore). If you use FAT16, remember there's a 2Gb limit, so don't try to go over it.
24. by the way, don't use the linux img tools. ntldr files are pretty complicated. Even the ultimate bootcd creator hangs using WinPE 2004 since it uses a new ntldr. Use the hp utility and you won't have issues.
25. is your SD card thingy USB1 or USB2?
