Just out of curiousity, for those of us in the Vista Beta program, are we even allowed to post on here? Isn't it technically against the NDA? Just checking since I just want to cover my a$$.
-
That's funny. I made these keys bootable from IBM hardware, and they work on Dell, HP, Acer, Motion, Toshiba, and Fujitsu among others.
-
in the deploy.cab, run the setupmgr.exe There a portion to put your registry key it and encypt it, and limit the install of it until X amount of days. Create the unattend.txt and copy the lines for the key and the EncrpytedPass=YES to your existing winnt.sif / unattend.txt
-
The new one is quite strange, the old one is very possible. Did you try with some alternate tools, like makebootfat or manually like I hint in my tutorial? Also, did you try partitioning the key ? Is it possible that the problem is related to the known 2Gb FAT16 limit. Jaclaz <{POST_SNAPBACK}> yeah tried everything... including partitioning as NTFS (which PE seems to love running in). I have a feeling there might be on board i/o extentions on the actual keys that might be the key to making these puppies bootable. The memorex 2gb key that I bought 2 months prior works absolutely fine though. It's tiny in size, but not as tiny as the Cruiser Micro (which is why I like it)
-
FYI - I did run into 2 keys that won't boot at all. One of them is the new Sandisk Cruzer Mcro (2 Gb, USB2), yeah you can imagine how bummed I was! And a really old Sony Magic Gate (USB1, 128mb). Both failed to boot as well as be able to have the little checkbox option to copy dos system files to it.

HOTFIXES: Windows XP SP2 & Windows 2000 SP4

FYI - Not sure if you guys are using unattended for installing Tablet 2005 (based off WinXP SP2), but there's a new patch came out today to fix an annoying memory leak for Tablet 2005 only: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&displaylang=en -
Enable quicklaunch for all users, not current
muevelonyc replied to muevelonyc's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
I have it called in the cmdlines... It will show up on the first boot, but if you add a domain user to the machine, the quick launch isn't there for the new user. I suspect it's because the key itself is in the current user tree: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Streams\Desktop] -
Enable quicklaunch for all users, not current
muevelonyc replied to muevelonyc's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
it only works for the administrator account. When I create new users they don't have quick launch enabled. I want to do this for my domain users. -
Did quite a bit of searching, and found the reg key to put quicklaunch bar for the current user (in unattended it defaults to the admin), and was wondering if anyone knew how to enable it for all users (ie: if I add a new user to the domain) ;Enable Quicklaunch [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Streams\Desktop] "Default BtS, FYI - I started rebuidling a few of the sound drivers myself after hitting the portcls.sys BSOD on build time for a few machines (Dell Lattitude 610, Dell Lattitude 410, and the HP TC1100 tablet). The ADI soundmax is the culprit, and while there's new drivers for them as of March 25th, it requires the following hotfix to be applied: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=892559&SD=tech Essentially this is the "base" portcls.sys file (post SP2) it needs which is NOT included in their driver pack (but SHOULD be). Anyone have access to premire support?

dual booting XP and Tablet install?
muevelonyc replied to muevelonyc's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Anyone? -
I managed to get my i386 folder setup so that the same source can install both XP Pro and Tablet 2005 by only swapping the unattended.txt (winnt.sif) file. I was wondering if there's a way to have it boot up and give the option to execute either without changing the paths? ie: If you select XP Pro, it'd launch: winnt.exe /u:\i386\winnt.sif If you select Tablet, it'd launch: winnt.exe /u:\i386\tablet.txt I'm using the mkimg utility (the iso maker) that uses xpboot.img as listed in the unattended guide.

You are probably using the qchain.exe that can be downloaded from Microsoft. This exe file is actually a self-extracting archive that contains the real qchain.exe file. If that's the case, simply extract the file and the overwrite the existing exe with the one you extracted. As I understand it, this file is largely unecessary with the latest updates though, so you may just want to delete it outright. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Thanks! This is what I get for trying to do this the right way for an enterprise. LOL Can't use the update pack in a corp. environment. -

During the unattended install in Gui mode where it's finalizing the installation (where it installs the svcpack.inf listed updates) I keep getting a window asking the location to unpack files with the path filled in as: \windows\system32\inetsrv Does anyone know which update is responsible for this and how to silently accept this default path? (btw - I'm using the direct listing of exe's in the svcpack.inf, and not using the integrate method) -
Thanks! Did a quick search, and look what google pulled up. Too bad google didn't pull this up when i first posted! http://blogs.msdn.com/archon_team/archive/...ersInWinPE.aspx Looks like there's a nice exe program that does this for you too!
-
http://www.ultimate-computing.com/pebuilder.php See the mass storage section. the real site went down but the local mirror is up.
-
ah that's why, you unpacked the BTS driver pack, and not the BartPE MAss storage driver pack. The mass storage driver pack plugin for BartPE has the ones you're missing.
-
ah makes sense. Make the unattended cd with the driver pack and create pe using that as the source.
-
oooh how? I wanna do this too! Bashrat's packs are more updated as most of the drivers in these packs are a year old.
