  6. Plenty being shared I'm still getting the same message logged on as a new user with the same ID as the the desktop! Is it possible having created a new user to delete the old one?
  7. Hi Thanks in advance I have two machines both running xp pro connected to an adsl router. Both access the internet fine and I can see each machine listed in the home networking but when I try to access the laptop from the desktop it ask's for a user name and password although I have never set any passwords. Access from the laptop to the desktop is fine. Any idea's how clear the password short of doing a clean instal! Cheers
  8. there is no mention of office in msconfig or startup folders its a strange one when I close outlook.exe in the task manager from that point on if I open and close Outlook it behaves normally and closes the .exe I guess its just another M$ quirk to be put up with.
  9. Thanks guys but so far no luck Outlook.exe does not appear in msconfig and making another program the default seems to have not acheived anything. Again the start up program does not feature outlook as an option. Think I will unistall and revert back to outlook 2000 it did seem a more stable program before the upgrade anyway! Thanks for all the suggestions am still willing to try any others
  10. I remember seeing a useful utility for controlling or stopping which programs start up when windows loads. The reason I ask is that Outlook 2002 insists on loading when windows boots up and as a consequence downloads all manner or spam if I forget to kill it in the task manager before I have a chance to run mailwasher or my kids turn on the PC. Anyone know how I can control which programs start on Windows boot up? Thank ya Kindly.

  13. Hi Guys I have just upgraded a pals computer to win2k and I cant it to turn off without this infuriating message and pushing the power button. It always turned off happily under 98 well as happy as any machine using 98! I have upgraded to the latest bios and win2k has all service packs and drivers up to date. I'm sure its pretty simple can someone put me out of my misery. Chas
