  1. Try this; On making the relevant BIOS change use gdisk as you have been to create and format the partition as you want. You may do Sys C: as well to install the DOS system files. Once done then dump the image of the formatted hard drive on to a server share as a ghost image file. For any other PC where you have NOT made the BIOS change, load the saved image to its hard drive using Ghost with -FNI switch. Alternatively on executing Ghost, you can select -FNI form Options -> Hard Drive. If the partition image is successfully transferred on to the new pc without making any BIOS change then I am sure that Gdisk.exe from version 8.0 of Ghost should work. Good Luck!

  3. Hi Have you tried gdisk from Ghost v8.0? I had similar problems while loading an image and got it working using -fni switch with ghost.exe. Ghost.exe from v8.0 worked without the switch. Cheers Raja
  4. Check this out, it seems like many on this forum will be concerned with this change http://www.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=...lr%3D%26hl%3Den
  5. Felix I posted the following as the reply to a similar question in regards to winnt.sif, (http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=22635&hl=). You may do the same for creating cmdlines.txt on the fly depending on the option you select at start of the build process. This is very basic approach, if you are willing to be creative write to me and I will give you some pointers. Cheers Raja Add your Site Names in Config.sys and on selecting any of the option it will be saved in %Config% variable and can be used then in Autoexec.bat to edit the contents of Winnt.sif. There are various utilities out on the web which can serach and replace the text in a file. OR alternatively you may create winnt.sif file on the fly based on the option selected. You will need four batch files (one for each site) which should be almost the same as your four Winnt.sif files but with following addition. For each line in winnt.sif add Echo command before it and then pipe the Echoed line to a new Winnt.sif. For example: Echo First line of your existing Winnt.sif>>Winnt.sif Echo Second line of your existing Winnt.sif>>Winnt.sif Echo Third line of your existing Winnt.sif>>Winnt.sif .....so on Save them as .bat files (one for each site) and call this batch file from autoexec.bat to create Winnt.sif on fly. Must enter the correct path for creating the Winnt.sif file when piping the echo command.
  6. This reply is in specific for Cableguy and all those who are involved in developing SOE’s for medium to large organizations. I have been designing and developing SOE's for corporate environment for 5 years and am convinced that both imaging and unattended have their strengths, so the best option in my experience is to use both. Imaging results in quicker deployment times but is a maintenance nightmare for an SOE engineer. Unattended build process on contrary is easy to scale and maintain but deployment times are much longer in comparison to Imaging. From business point of view time is money hence the preference is always for imaging. This point can be successfully argued by those in favour of Unattended process, as the time in question is unattended time which means, once started, the process runs on its own without any intervention hence the dollar value is same for both the processes. Unfortunately Businesses/Management generally get billed for the total build time than being billed for only the time the technician has spent in actually triggering the unattended process and as a result Imaging is favourite with them as with in less than 10 minutes the pc is ready for deployment at much smaller a cost than that of unattended process. Unattended process is best suited for corporate needs where a customised build process is needed to cater for different hardware platforms, or any other variables that are to be set so as to get different resulting image. As for an example, your organization may have 3000 computers (different hardware models from different manufacturers) installed across different regions, business divisions needing different configuration or applications. For such a diverse setup Unattended build process is the way to go but having said that the time required getting the task completed (even if it is unattended task) is on average 5-6 times more than a combination of Sysprep/ghost. Imaging is ideally suited where hardware models are identical, set of needed applications is the same, and one set of customisation is applied across all computers. This works well in training and educational institutions if hardware models are the same. Having said that I would still use unattended process for development of the SOE for its benefit and use imaging only for deployment in such an environment. Now to conclude, I have always used the unattended process for development of SOE’s and for deployment depending on the scenario I will either continue to use Unattended or convert the unattended solution into an imaging solution by flick of a switch. I hope this information is enough to set your imagination running as far as you want it to and see how all this could be accomplished. OR feel free to ask any questions. I am not a regular visitor to the forum so may not be able to reply straight away. You can MSN me at (rajakohli at hotmail dot com) or write to (rkohli at energy dot com dot au) Cheers Raja
  7. Copy and paste the following in a .vbs file and see if this could be used for your needs. The script checks for if Notepad.exe is running or not. Simply edit the Process name as per your requirement to check if the process is running or not. CODE: strProcess = "Notepad.exe" Set objWMIService = GetObject("winmgmts:") Set colProcessList = objWMIService.ExecQuery _ ("SELECT * FROM Win32_Process where name='" & strProcess & "'") CheckProcess=(colProcessList.Count > 0) If CheckProcess = -1 Then Msgbox "Notepad is running" Else Msgbox "Notepad is NOT running" End If

  10. Add jo.sys in the root of your bootable cdrom. Works only with Windows 98 or ME boot disk. Check the following link for more info. http://www.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=...lr%3D%26hl%3Den
  11. Dear All I am not sure if this will get the desired attention as I am new to this forum and do not know much about posting. Please advise If I have to follow a process to make this reach to a bigger audience. My Problem: Have been struggling to apply a couple of reg tweaks to the default user profile through cmdlines.txt, would appreciate any help or pointer to understand about the problem or if possible a solution. Have been trying to configure default user profile to have Use Windows Classic folder option selected instead of the default Show common tasks in folders. Also want to set the default explorer view to Details. Can successfully apply the reg merge when the user is logged on but having the same reg merge applied for default user in cmdlines.txt is not delivering the expected result. The merge does get applied successfully to the default user profile( checked and confirmed by loading the hive) but for some reason on creation of new user these two reg tweaks are ignored or overwritten by windows while creating a profile for a new user. Is their any other source besides Default User profile which contributes to the creation of a new user profile at first logon. Will appreciate any pointers either for the solution or learning more about how actually the new profile is created as it is obvious that the created user profile has much more than what the default user profile holds, so where is this additional data coming from? Many thanks in advance. Raja
