  1. Yes of course I will use win 7 but also I never had a problem with vista 64 bit. Win 98 ha ha come on I guess if you have a very old pc that can’t run anything else. But if you have a newer pc I don’t think win 98 is going to run a quad very well. As for win xp yes let’s all use a os created in 2001 but I don’t think it will run a quad very well either or any other new hardware. Yes I know there is win xp 64 bit it was a jk. I used it on this system and now this is running win 7 64 bit much better than it did xp 64 bit. I feel most of the poor rating vista got was from manufactures putting in on systems that could not run it. Also they all wanted the ultimate version loaded with network stuff they have no idea what it is for or will ever use it. But then again if you are going to buy a system with a vista rating of 1 you deserve what you get. So in my opinion vista was much better than xp and win 7 will be better than vista. But then of course you have to learn a new os which some people seem to be afraid of, or learning anything for that matter. Also i guess it makes a diffrence if you only sit at home with your pc, but if you are in the pc business not useing win 7 or learning it will make you look stupid. Same as the people that skipped vista i guess they dont fix pc's well Win 7 is alot like Vista. So if you dont want to keep up and have no need to ,use win 98 and a old pc. Myself I love the new stuff hehe Hammey
  2. What i found fixed the network in Win 7 was makeing sure the eithernet card had a gateway and default dns, if not win7 auto sets the network to public and you wont get the shares. Hammey
  3. Well codec packs suck big time they all install a pile of stuff you will never use. Actually you need about 2 the ac3 filter and the xvid codec will play most anything and will allow all windows programs to use them wmp power dvd or what ever one. Vlc yes it does play most things but only installs the codec’s for itself so if you want to use a program like power dvd which covers good sound and video those 2 codec’s will do it. No need for a 20 meg codec pack. Hammey
  4. I suggest go download free malwarebytes and run it it will find it and remove it very simple program.
  5. Well i dont see why u want to use ics on wireless when you have a router. Any wireless device that has the router wep key will connect to the router and the internet if the router has your info. Doing it this way also means your lappy does not have to be on for others to connect. A ad hoc wireless network will let you share but you dont need the router and the host system must be on all the time. Maybe i did not understand what you are trying to do Hammey
  6. dx 10 and 9 can be found at ms . I am currently checking on dx in video cards . My idea is and this all started with power dvd wont install on vista 64 on my q9650 vista comes with 10 as it cant find dx 9 they say it does not need dx 9 well i know the install asks for it. there requirments are a dx 9 compatable video card. What im waiting to find out is a dx 9 card dx 9 compatable without dx 9 installed or does it need the dx 9 installed to make it so. If your video card is dx 10 it will run best with dx 10 installed. 7. Well Mark im running win 7 64 bit on a older amd system 3800 + 3 gig ram 6600 gt and the right click menu is instant also to access other drives full of media is instant as this system is on a network and full of media files. Maybe u got a bad video driver install also win 7 has directx 11 not 10 u can install 10 . i always install 9 its a dif build so it only adds dx 9 files that programs look for older ones and some games. Try installing the driver from nivida and see. Also check task manger to see if something is running cpu full or program useing alot of memory. Hammey
  8. Ahh ok i have not experienced that problem but im useing rc 1, its also on a older pc with a 6600 gt card and the video has never auto changed mode. And yes i dont have it set to allow it to be put to sleep.
  9. Well does device manager list the card as working if not or even if it does right click it choose update drivers and let it search web update for new ones. If still no go remove the card from device manger reboot and let it reinstall it same as you would do in vista or xp. As for bugs i have seen none i even run nero v 7 mirc 6.16 acdsee pic viewer 2.1 anything i used in xp really. not one blue screen or reboot with win 7 yet. Also if on a network win 7 needs a gateway and dns on eithernet card or it finds unidentifed network and sets it to public. Hammey
  10. Hi yes there is no classic start menu anymore but if you bring up the task bar properties, choose start menu tab and then choose customise you can change settings. Hammey
  11. Yes bitdefender really does not like win 7 and they say they dont support it. Besides they have no support there support consists on you sending them files from little programs they send you when i did it it took me 5 days just to get them to send the one for 64 bit and never received a reply ,it never stops asking to add full screen apps to game list also never stops the stupid little file scanner window. Every update changes and screws something up. And thats on vista 64 bit which there program it supposed to support. When i put it on win 7 to see win 7 ran very slow the advanced setup was missing could only get normal mode update did not work. Hammey
  12. Hello again well I installed a dif driver vista-xp-680-x64-1.2.4.0-logo one it installed a controller in device manger that was not the 3114 and would not start once i ran update driver from win update it updated the driver and it all works now. Thank You Hammey
  13. Hi again hehe my board has 2 sata raid setups one is via which win 7 64 bit loads no problem . The one it wont load is the sil 3114 sataraid . I have tried every driver i could find vista one xp 64 but still no go, any one get that raid to work on win 7 i would sure like to hear how Thank You Hammey
  14. Hi no i have decided to spend no more time with a 14 $ card lol may be ok for internet access but no go on network shares.I have to go with its the card as they are not old cards they where bought like 3 months ago still in the boxes, and to have 4 of them do the same thing, but the card does not support very much in settings, as soon as i put in the new dge-530t a card worth 39 $ it all worked so im happy I never buy cheap crap dont know how i got those lol. Thank You Hammey
  15. Hi what i have found that a new dfe-530tx is a undersized card these cards where first made in 1999 and just dont have a chance of comunitcating with modern cards transmit and receive buffers on the card only go down to 64 not 50 and setting it at 100 does not help. So with the new dfe-530tx it does not work. I installed a new dge-530t it auto set receive and trasmit buffers to 50. the vista system can connect no problem. But i guess what can you expect for a 14 $ eithernet card the dfe-530tx is still being sold today i would stay away from it. Hammey
  16. hi well if it has a ip assigned it cant have auto assign . it locks no reports in event viewer. I am not a noob its just i have never run into this problem before. I will fix it and use the marvel yukon drivers for the 3com onboard and forget about the dlink. I just thought someone here may have run into it before and i would get a easy fix this is not the case so ill figure it out. Thank You for your help have a good day. Hammey
  17. Hi i only have one eithernet cable connected to the amd system its the same one i use on the 3com or the dlink i only have one plugged in at a time. Each eithernet card has a dif ip assigned. Windows firewall is disabled and zonealarm is setup to allow both of those ips. But it happens to the dlink card if zonealarm is on or off. I disable one card to try the other, when i try the dlink i uninstall the 3com in device manger reboot disable it in bios and then continue to boot and load only the dlink. I have created new shares and same thing happens. Thank You
  18. Hi again hehe yes all eithernet cards are set to that . One thing that i noticed from the vista system when i click network it shows me the amd system if i click it it opens the shares .If i do not click the share and only put my mouse on it to select it, on the bottom of the vista network window it shows me the size of the share in meg so it does read the share. But if i click any shared folder from the vista system thats when the amd locks up. I know the dlink is a cheap entry level card but it should work. Thank You
  19. Hi the dlink card is only in the amd system and yes with it in, it can access the share on vista. but with the dlink card in the amd system the vista system can see the amd dlink system .I can see the pc name in the network on vista if i click it it opens the shares to show the folders that are shared on the amd system , if i try to access those shares on the amd system it locks the amd system up. the network card in the vista system is realtek it works fine and never has had the dlink card in it as it has no pci slots. With the 3com lom onboard in the amd system i dont have any problem accessing the amd system from the vista system. So with the dlink card in the amd system when vista trys to access the shares on the amd system it locks the amd system up. I want to use the dlink card as win 7 has drivers for it if i can get it to work. Thank You
  20. Hi thank you for your responce. The motherboard is an ABIT KV8 Max 3 with an AMD64 3800+, 3GB RAM, and 6600GT. If I use the onboard 3 com nic in windows xp on this system i have no problems and can access this system from the vista 64 bit system q9550 8 gig ram 2 9800 gtx with onboard realtek rtl8168c. If I use the dlink card on the amd system from my vista 64 bit system and try access this amd system this system lock's up you cant move the mouse or anything. From the vista 64 bit system using the dlink card on this system i can see the amd pc and when i click it it opens the shares on the amd pc but if i try to access any of these shared folders it locks the amd system up. I hope this is a better explanation. This error started when i installed windows 7 64 bit and had to use the dlink card i thought it was a win 7 problem but to test i plugged the xp drive back in and it did the same thing on xp so i think if i get it fixed for xp it will work in win 7 and then i can remove xp forever. Oh also using the dlink card i have no problems connecting to the internet in win 7 or xp its just when i access the shares. Thank You
  21. Hi everyone i am having a problem with a eithernet card i think . I installed windows 7 on a dif drive and no drivers for my onboard 3 com nic so i used a dlink dfe-530tx card that win7 had drivers for. I can see the other pc's but if i try and access them it locks up the pc i am trying to access. So i went back to booting to xp with that eithernet card still the same problem when i try to access the other pc's locks them up all pc's have diffrent ip's. If i enable the 3com and use it the problem goes away. I did run homegroup in win7 before i found out it only works with win 7 pc's but disabled it later. Any idea would help. Thank You
