  1. Hi all, When you join 2000 or XP PC's to a 2000/2003 AD Domain PC's register themselves in DNS. Why is this> because of Active Directory Functionality and GPO's ? if not can it be stopped and is it a good or bad idea. Thanks Minus Human
  2. MMMmm do an audit of AD basically what the TOPIC!!!! says ok seriously, audit it what's in it, OU structures OU's Policy's Groups Rights assigned to groups, members of those groups ect... Minus Human
  3. We have to do an audit of our AD This is the problem i've never done it and don't know where to start. I basically just need some advice about format and such, can you use an app for this that compiles a report?? I have already documented all our Policies and OU Structures but would still like to have it formalized. ANybody here done this before? Cheers and thanks !! Minus Human
  4. klasika, Main problem is that MSDE doesn't install on a domain controller. I tried using SQL and it bombed aswell. You have to use the MSDE database engine that comes with SPS for it to work.So you have to install it on member server There are some notes of this on this site, http://www.greatwesthealthcare.com/_vti_bi...equirements.htm Minus Human
  5. Klasika man, are you still alive? Minus Human

  7. Hello again, As mentioned before ISA configuration is totally new to me, so thought i would start with the basics of what i want to do with it they include, Setup web/internet proxy (this is a test so my internet is provided through a modem) setup a DMZ and proxy authentication Klasika you said you had a course on this stuff i could really use your help here! I got an eval copy of ISA 2004 EE Thanks! Minus Human
  8. Hello, Hope you guys can help a guy out here, we have 2 AD structures in 2 diff sites quite a stretch from each other. (recently merged org.) we would like to consolidate what we have in both structures, and have the same user ID's located in each domain. Now from what i undersatand creating child domains and trust relationships won't do that, i would meerly allow us to grant rights to recources in the other domain. So i was looking at Microsoft Identity integration server as a possible solution to do this, Could this be a solution? Any site i could visit that addresses this type of scenario?
  9. Thanks Klasika, I'm downloading the trial version now, when i get stuck i'll def give you a shout. Thx Minus Human
  10. Disk 1 also needs to be a Dynamic Volume. Minus Human
  11. Hi again, i'm an id*** when it comes to ISA, i know nothing about it except that it's Microsoft's Firewall, Because of the problems with Bordermanager i would like to investigate using ISA as a *possible* replacement for certain scenarios. Is there someone that can help/or point in right direction - where i can find a step by step guide for setting up a web proxy in ISA and also some setup help for DMZ ? Much appreciated. Minus Human
  12. No, when the users log on their roaming profiles/and their Redirected info gets created automatically. minus human
  13. wow if that's you in the sig i'll find away! Minus Human
  14. Hello, I have a strange problem developing, we have about 18000 users and a policy that controls their entire "desktop" feel from programs to data, yada yada... Some of the user accounts i notice are giving errors when attempting to redirect the My documents Folder. The error: Failed to perform redirection of folder My Documents. The files for the redirected folder could not be moved to the new location. The folder is configured to be redirected to <\\uldc01\$ULFolderRedir$\Default Domain Users\Student Documents\%USERNAME%\My Documents>. Files were being moved from <C:\Documents and Settings\200401225\My Documents> to <\\uldc01\$ULFolderRedir$\Default Domain Users\Student Documents\200401225\My Documents>. The following error occurred while copying <C:\Documents and Settings\200401225\My Documents\desktop.ini> to <\\uldc01\$ULFolderRedir$\Default Domain Users\Student Documents\200401225\My Documents\desktop.ini>: The security descriptor structure is invalid. ----------------------------- OK ? so i noticed i still had some roaming profile copy's on the servers which should be deleted when he logs off - which wasn't happening. I deleted them. next time user logs in it creates the redirected Folders on the server as it suppose to but i still recieve the error above and the users files are not updated? IE when he saves to My Documents it saves local and not his network share. i also recieve an error about turning of caching for roaming profiles it bugs me that only some users have a problem not all, and besides this issue everyting else works fine. i'm not eager to jump in and take 2 many risks solving this because of the number of people using it, it's just my event viewer is filling up and this could get worse. What to do? Minus Human
  15. OK, maybe this is not something you would come to a forum for but hey Were looking at completely re-doing our network and putting a system in place with vlan's dividing our network. Now that's relatively straight forward BUT we can't (not advised) to use your data network for both video and audio aswell as data. This is where the question starts. To setup diff VLans to support your data/voice/video accross switches seems like a solution but how would you design your IP structure ? and how would you set it up ? anybody here have exp with something similair ? or do you perhaps know of website that could answer some /all of these quesions. Thanks Minus Human
  16. Thanks Minus Human

  18. aih, ok so i got working through sharepoint portal. BUT now it's going accross the web to collect the information when i have all the installation media Does anyone know how you can redirect it so it uses local source files ? Thanks Minus Human
  19. Actually it could be your switch if the switch port exceeds a certain traffic load it (depending on setup) it will disable itself. What about half duplex/full duplex auto negotiate, check those options. are they consistent with the other devices connecting to your servers. The reason I’m suggesting your switch is when you disable your network card that traffic stops going through the switch – which then in-turn re-enables the port. When it exceeds a certain load it disables it again. We had a 100 MB fiber uplink to a cabinet with 8 switches. From there they were configured as a stack through gigabit ports. Although this worked it wasn’t very reliable and we would experience intermittent network connectivity. IF everything on your BladeCenter Chassis is gigabit which then links into your core switch at 100MB’s (!!assuming!!) it could be your problem Just a thought Minus Human
  20. Hello , does anybody have some tips for installing Encarta ? i've been trying to get it working through share point portal on a 2003 box but no luck so far. anybody have exp with that? we have quite a big org so going around to all desktops isn't really practical. Thanks minus Human
  21. Thanks only checked back now thanks again! Minus Human
  22. Hello ALL OK so i'm hoping to have more luck with this Question (nobody answered my DNS Active Directory Question ) We would like to limit our students to only 2 hours allocated time a day per PC/Terminal. If they exceed that tough come back the next day. Basically we have so many users and not enough PC's to serve the need. I found a program called watchdog but that doesn't give me the option of pulling user id's From AD ( 18000 of them ) Any other suggestions ?? Thanks Allot Minus Human
  23. Hello Again, Our Layout. Internet | Novell Bordermanager | Lan Servers All our AD servers are behind the firewall. Now due to a lack of funds we need to remove/alocate some new roles. We currently have 2 AD DC's with DNS/WINS and on the second DHCP. A single Server to host only Ext DNS with a secondary provided by our Service Provider. Now the "proposed" plan is to remove our External DNS and allocate it a new Role as a WebServer. Then uninstall internal DNS on one of our DC's and have that become our new External DNS (While AD is still running on that Box) Now for the record i don't think this is a good idea. BUT hey what ru gonna do if the BOSS says DO IT. So this is how i thought i'd go about it. Seeing as our One AD DC will be without DNS i would point it now to our other AD DC with DNS still running. ( That part is still OK to me ) Now the problem for me is running external DNS on our AD server something about this doesn't seem a good idea. The webserver will be running WebEdition. Any help Advice "good practice" would be great Thanks Minus Human
