  1. Hi 5eraph: sorry, I mixed up the KB articles. I edited my previous post already. I DO MEAN the KB896256. That is the one I had mentioned in my first post, thats the one I have installed and did not help with the problem. Sorry for the mixup ... Bye, Alex
  2. Guys, I mentioned in my first post that this Microsoft hotfix was already installed (KB896256) and that the problems were still present so I guess the registry values this IBM patch adds is not enough (if they change the same thing as the MS patch) I am a bit busy these days but I will do some more tests if I have some time. I think this boot.ini switch is required though ... Bye, Alex edit: mixed up KB articles ...
  3. Interesting, this "fix" has a reg file that does something to the HAL also, maybe the switch in boot.ini is not the only thing necessary. Does someone know what this fix does to the registry ? I should test what the AMD CPU driver installation does to the registry .... Bye, Alex
  4. Hi if you are talking about the DVD decoder you have to call the unpacked setup.exe with the /R switch and add your info as usual. Afterwards you find an iss file in the windir directory. With this iss you can call the setup.exe with the /S switch with the iss present in the same dir as the setup.exe You can also try with my setup.iss but you have to edit the relevant fields with your registration data and the installation path may be different to on your system ... 5. Hey! Cool that I am not the only one seeing some difference Well, maybe Bashrat will be able to do his magic again ! Bye, Alex edit: I am wondering, how is the situation on Intel Dualcore or even Intel Hyperthreading processors ? As far as I know Intel does not set this switch because there is no processor driver but it may be wise to do so anyway. But thats probably of no concern to Bashrat right now ...
  6. Hi Bashrat, here´s the result: ACPI\AUTHENTICAMD_-_X86_FAMILY_15_MODEL_35\_0 : AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3800+ ACPI\AUTHENTICAMD_-_X86_FAMILY_15_MODEL_35\_1 : AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3800+ 2 matching device(s) found. Well if you have the switch you won´t have video problems because of it. Also, I am sure most people won´t even notice any problems because most people are very tolerant or should I say ignorant towards videostutter. For instance most guys in the NTSC world are used to watch films on their 60Hz devices where stutter is always visible but most people just don´t see it. But there may be other timing problems not only with videoplayback, thats just how I found out about it because I am very sensitive to stutter. In fact, as I said in my first post, tools like reclock which is dependent on video/audio clocks in the system to work correctly had problems so I guess this could also affect other programs. No, I did turn Cool and quiet off in the BIOS once while I was testing things to cure the stutter problems, it did not help at all. Also, if I don´t have Power Management set to "minimal", "cool and quiet" won´t be active anyway, at least thats what I could find out so far. Bye, Alex
  7. Hi guys, I just found out about a "problem" with the CPU driverpack that may help some of you with AMD dualcore processors. I found out the hard way ... I knew that the AMD processor driver has to be installed on an AMD X2 but I thought I had this "covered" since I use the CPU driverpack. But seemingly the AMD installprogram does not only add the driverfiles during setup but also alters boot.ini if a X2 CPU is found. It adds the /usepmtimer switch. This switch is very important for quite a few apps. After I assembled my new system I had very bad mediaplayback. Videos would stutter, applications like reclock did not work at all or behaved very strangely. I tried all kinds of things, I added the Windows XP dualcore patch, reinstalled quite a few times, tried other boards, PCI cards etc. ... nothing helped. In the end, I found out that running the AMD CPU driver install program which adds the switch solved all those problems immediatly. @Bashrat: I have no idea what else this installer does but adding the driver like any other driver is not sufficient, at least not with dualcores. At the very least, this switch has to be added to the boot.ini. Could this be done the way control panels are added after installation ? I guess you would have to somehow query if a dualcore is present or not though because this switch does not seem necessary for singelcores (don´t know if it causes any issues though) If it isn´t possible I would suggest to maybe remove that driverpack because it could lead to problems with some applications if this switch isn´t being used. Hope this helps some other guys with dualcores and strange timing related problems ;-) Bye, Alex

  9. Hi Bashrat, I am not gonna argue with you, you are the specialist and I am not even close so yes, probably you are right about those drivers. Nevertheless, if I install Windows using your DP massstorage on my board using the SIL3114 chip, Windows will always use the old IDE driver instead of the new Raid5 driver. And if I then manually let windows search for a better driver in the raid5 folder it will gladly accept that one. I´d rather have Windows install the newer driver by default ... By the way, you did not answer the Nvidia driver question ... I guess thats because you cannot hear the word nvidia anymore Bye, Alex
  10. Hi Bashrat, I did find a few little problems with the current driverpacks and I thought I´d pack them all in one thread, maybe you have time to look at it ... 1. The new DP Masstorage 6.02: You did integrate the new SI 3114 driver (in the D\M\S\7 folder), however, you left the old IDE driver in the D\M\S\6 folder. This driver gets installed if there is no raid so maybe you can remove that old driver completely, the new driver in the "7" folder works fine with and without raid. Even in the "7" folder there may be a problem there because there are two inf files there now. The old SI3114r.inf and the new Si3114r5.inf. The first one is not necessary at least as far as I can tell it is not only for raid 5. 2. A few cleanup issues: a. A couple of days ago I integrated the driverpacks using the "keep drivers" option. Now I integrate them using the "discard drivers" option at the end of the slipstreaming process. This does not work. I expected that the process would delete the "watch driver signing policy.exe" and "setupcopyOEMinf.cmd" files and add the cleanup.cmd. However, the cleanup.cmd was not copied and the two files mentioned above were still present. edit: strange, it worked fine the second time around. Maybe it was my mistake somehow ... b. I installed Windows recently in VMWare 5.5 and after installation a folder from the Soundblaster control panel was still in C: No big deal, just some small cleanup issue I guess. Using M1 at all times. 3. The slipstreaming process: This is no bug but I thought I still might be telling you this. During the whole slipstreaming process it does not matter which key is being pressed by the user. In the end though, when the user is being asked if he wants to use GUI or Runonceex the key is becoming important. It is not the first time that I pressed "enter" by mistake and thereby ended the slipstreaming process, in fact it happened quite often. I know this is no big deal but maybe you could add some sort of check so any keys except "r" or "g" are ignored at that point and do not throw you out of the process. The same goes for the steps following that. edit2: Any reason why you did not include the latest Nvidia IDE driver 08/18/2005,5.10.2600.0552 in the DP masstorage ? As always, thanks for your great work ! Bye, Alex
  11. Hi everyone ! Great tool ! Just one question ... is there a way to determine which is the primary ethernet adapter if more than one nic is installed ? I would need this since the tool only checks the MAC adress of the primary NIC. Thanks for your help ! Bye, Alex
  12. Yeah, this latest driver from Microsoft Update also fixed an issue with the previous driver I mentioned above where one of three discs attached to the controller would not appear in Windows (not even in the driver manager) if not using any Raid array but just 3 single discs. I just downloaded this driver from Microsoft Update. It then appears in this folder: %windir%\SoftwareDistribution\Download as a file with a large number. If you rename that to "zip" you can unpack it easily. I have uploaded the file to my webspace here Bashrat: Can you please use this driver instead of the "normal" Sil3114 and the Raid driver ? It seems to do both very well contrary to the previous two drivers. This driver is directly from Microsoft update in case you have any trust issues with it Bye, Alex
  13. Hi Bashrat, thanks for the new version. I am not sure the ATI CCC installation will work though because the ATIccc.exe is still compressed and the script calls the ATICCC.exe not the ATICCC.ex_ I told you in the 6.1 thread that I had to first decompress the file so I am thinking this problem will still exist and the cp will not even be unpacked But I am gonna test this now anyway. Just have an update ready in case it does not work Bye, Alex By the way, any reason why you do not include the Nvidia WDM drivers ? Bye, Alex
  14. Brandon, thanks but I am already doing that. But there are some program settings I am applying during unattended installation that have a drive letter "hardwired" into it for instance all my MS Office settings. Those settings are applied using an ops file which as far as I know cannot be modified that easily on the fly. So it would really be necessary to have my data drive be drive D at all times. Since it is on the first drive and there are other drives I cannot get Windows to use D for this partition although in theory it should work if I understand the above mentioned posts correctly. Mhh ... ? Bye, Alex
  15. Hi Jaclaz, thanks for the quick answer. I understand somehow but not completely. The reason why I decided to make the second partition on drive 1 a primary partition was because I need this drive to be drive D (because during my unattended setup files on that disc are used and they are referenced to the driveletter D) So if this partition is a logical drive in an extended partition as you say is recommended and there are other primary partitions after C because there are additional harddiscs available (with only 1 partition on each drive) Windows first assigns driveletters to all the primary partitions and the extended partition comes last. This means that in the above example the drive letter on my extended partition will be F instead of D. So what would you recommend in my case ? All I want is the data drive to be drive D and the other discs to come afterwards. As for why I am deleting the partition, this is the easiest way to do a clean install without using any other software except windows setup. If I do not delete the partition in windows setup, Windows will ask me if I want to install into the existing C:\Windows directory or not. Thanks, Alex
  16. Hi guys, I do have a very strange problem with my partition scheme and I wonder if someone could explain the reason to me. I would like to have the following scheme: Drive1: -- Primary Partition 1: C (Boot und Systemdisc) -- Primary Partition 2: D (data) Drive2: -- Primary Partition 3: E (media1) Drive3: --Primary Partition 4: F (media2) Now, the problem with this scheme is that if I reinstall Windows completely I usually do it by deleting the first partition and recreate a new one in Windows setup (during text mode install). This works fine as long as the second partition on drive 1 is an extended partition. Windows will create a new primary partition, assign the number C use that one as the system drive. However with the above scheme this does not work. For some unkown reason Windows setup will always create an extended partition, assign a higher drive letter, rename all other drives and put the systemfiles on the second partition on drive 1. This is crazy ! I even tried to boot into BartPE and create the above scheme manually using diskpart but Windows still renames the drive letters and assigns a higher number to the first partition instead of C and puts systemfiles on the second partition. Is Windows setup not able to create two primary partitions on one drive if a second primary already exists ? Any help would be appreciated ! Thanks, Alex Please NOW in Microsoft Windows XP section, use [TAGS] in your topic's title. See rules. --Sonic
  17. Hi Bashrat, lots of new requests for the next masstorage pack, here´s one more Highpoints new Raid controller should be interesting because it is PCIe. Here are the drivers ! Thanks, Alex
  18. Hi Bashrat, the Silicon Image 3114 controller has updated RAID (5) drivers here Thanks ! Bye, Alex
  19. Hi ! New Nvidia driver 81.98 Bye, Alex
  20. hey again, now it worked. Thats what I did: I expanded ATICC.ex_ I added isscript9.exe to the directory (as mentioned in another thread !) I changed the relevant part of the finish.cmd to this: Worked fine. Bye, Alex
  21. Hi Bashrat! Would you please add the SI 3132 IDE DRIVER and the SI 3132 RAID DRIVER ? Thanks, Alex
  22. Yeah, that was the problem, now at least the files is being unpacked. However, it still did not install and the reason for that is the missing isscript.msi Would be nice if your have some time. Bye the way ... this problem with the packed exe may be a problem for other control panels too. I am testing a few new boards currently because each and every one has some kind of a problem so currently I am using the MSI KT8N Diamond Plus which has onboard Creative Soundblaster Live 24 bit sound. The drivers were installed but no control panel ;-) I have not looked into it but it may be the same reason ... Bye, Alex
  23. Hi again, I think I know why it did not install. I just tried it again on a new installation and again, it did not install. In your BTS_DPs_finish.cmd you have the following: IF EXIST %S%atioglx1.dll ( %C%A\1\ATICCC.exe -y -o%DPS_TMP% However, the ATICCC.exe ist not there you compressed it to ATICCC.ex_ That would be a logical reason why it does not even start to install. I am gonna test now with a decompressed ATICCC.exe Bye, Alex
  24. HI Bashrat, yep, of course ! ;-)
  25. Hi Natan, wow, this looks promising. I will gladly help you test and optimize this project as it does provide a few features I did not find anywhere else but it would need the following features because my MultiBootDVD is already complete and has grown over the years so I need ways to integrate this into a working MultibootDVD instead of it creating a completely new one. I think most people would like to keep using their unattended DVDs but add some missing "user input questions" before Windows setup starts. Ok here´s my list of "required" features: 1. I would like the boot part to be started as one entry of an already existing CDShell bootmenu created for instance using the famous MultiBootDVD Guide 2. I would like to change/adapt the questions that the user gets asked during the setup process. For instance I dont need the language/company/Net SKD etc. questions. I basically only need: Computername Local Administrator name/password Join domain or workgroup, if domain: which domainname, domain admin/pw for joining CD key (in case the default one in winnt.sif should not be used) install retail version of windows (ask for key) or corporate version (use cd key in winnt.sif) if possible: access the recovery console of windows setup CD 3. There is definitely a need for a more flexible approach to the formatting options. I only need two things: either completely wipe the first harddrive and install two partitions (c+d) but the setup should already create a d partition as some other programs that are started in runonceex relies on an existing D partition or more important for most users I guess: delete the first C partition but leave D alone !! I guess most people will have data on D that they need to keep but they want to install windows from scratch so there is definitely a need to delete and create a new c partition and format it with NTFS. 4. Will this thing work with a complete unattended DVD that includes Bashrats driver packs, a winnt.sif having lots of entries etc. ? Especially Bashrats driverpack massstorage could be a problem as it changes txtsetup.sif and a few other early config files. 5. Actually I have no idea how this thing works. From reading your responses in this thread I gather that linux does the first stage of Windows setup that means, it copies all the windows setup files to the harddisc and then reboots. Does the normal Windows setup take over from there or is linux still involved after that first stage ? Maybe you could explain a bit more about how this all works, I would like to understand this before I try this on my pc and the pc´s at work after all this has not been done before (to my knowledge) Anyway, this looks really cool, I hope this will evolve some more in the future. I am guessing it could evolve into something like Wihu (which lets you choose which software to install after Windows setup and lets you create users etc.) but with the advantage of it running at the beginning of the installation. Bye, Alex
