  1. Well, as I posted in Vista forums before, I have a problem with my RAM showing only 4 of 6Gb (3x2Gb) under Vista x64 SP2. Quite recently trying to shuffle the RAM sticks to identify the (hardware) cause of the problem (software tests incl. CPU-Z show all 3 slots ok & functioning - see screenshots in the above post), I encountered a strange problem. Now whenever I power up the rig it starts spinning but I cannot get a signal on the monitor - it immediately goes to sleep... No POST screen, no boot page - nothing, only the "sleeping" monitor. I tried to re-fix all cable connections (although didn't touch anything except unplugging the RAM sticks) but to no avail. The computer is quite new (12 days old), all parts are new and pre-tested. I've been even working on it during the past 12 days. All troubles happened immediately at the first boot after shuffling the RAM sticks. I noticed one difference though... When the rig starts the HDD indicator doesn't light up. The same is true for HDD LED on the mobo. As if the harddisk isn't working... I will be very grateful for your help. My specs: Thermaltake Mid-tower VI1000BWS ASUS Rampage II Gene Intel Core i7 920 D0 2.66GHz eVGA nVidia GTX285 OCZ 6Gb (3x2Gb) RAM 1600MHz (OCZ3G1600LV6GK) Western Digital Caviar Green (GP) 1TB 32Mb-cache (WD10EADS) OCZ700MXSP 700W PSU Thank you!
  2. Yes, Mike, DDR3 indeed should be triple channel! As with the "memory remapping" option you've mentioned earlier, I can't find a notion of changing the channel numbers in BIOS I better do some google search for now to get a comprehensive BIOS manual... Thanks for your help anyway!!!
  3. So, is it possible to use WAIK for SP1 (v1.1) with Vista SP2?!? Thank you!
  4. Thanks for your help, guys! However, I don't believe it's a hardware problem. My rig is only some days old and has been fully tested by a trusted person before I received it. Even more, I've attached a couple of CPU-Z screens which further prove that the computer does see the memory... As you can see from the right image, all 3 memory slots show the correct volume of memory sticks attached to them. Thank you!
  5. So, what is the verdict - is it still possible to use WAIK 1.1 with Vista with SP2 or we should wait for newer version of WAIK?!?
  6. I installed them according to mobo's Manual - slots A1, B1, C1, i.e. 1x2Gb stick into each slot. Total: 6Gb of RAM reserved under 3 slots.
  7. I'd been using Nero for several years (since I know what was "burning") BUT was never satisfied with it - toooo complicated/reiterated interface to do a small job Then I tried ImgBurn and continue using it for almost 3 consequent years for now. I highly recommend it - it's free, very small (~1.5Mb) but very user-friendly and useful - does the same as Nero, if you want. Plus easily allows for creation of bootable CD/DVD to create unattended Windows installation disks, for instance. Hope this helps!
  8. Thanks for info! Tried to find memory remapping option in BIOS but to no avail. Can you tell where it is located exactly? I use ASUS Rampage II Gene. Maybe there is a 3rd-party tool available to do this job?
  9. Thanks again! So, does it mean vLite still works with SP2 too? That would be great to know!
  10. Fair enough... But it simply means that there are only two options (either / or) for installing Vista: 1- vLite and install the customzied Vista with SP1 and continue living with it until another genious like nuhu invents a similar tool compatible with SP2. 2- Buy or download the MSDN pre-slipstreamed version Vista with SP2 and install it as-is, i.e. without any customization (with vLite) whatsoever... That's really weird, I think! Anyway, vielen Dank, Andre!!!
  11. This is weird I think. I just installed Vista x64 Ultimate and when on Info Page it shows only 4Gb of usable memory instead of 6Gb. I didn't check the BIOS but when I install WinXP x86 on my previous rig I never had this problem - I used 3 Gb DDR2 memory and it always showed the full 3Gb in task manager. My specs: Mobo: ASUS Rampage II Gene CPU: Intel Core i7 920 D0 2.66GHz GPU: eVGA nVidia GTX285 RAM: 3x2Gb OCZ PSU: 700W OCZ Anyone guess what may be the problem?
  12. As the topic description says, is it possible to: 1- vLite (i.e., customize) Vista x86/x64 with SP1 2- Then, simply run SP2 RTM after installation of "customized" Vista with SP1 The point is I've read several times that it was not possible to slipstream SP2 with Vista SP1 using vLite or default Vista options. Being not fond of "brute-force" slipstream methods, I'd like to try the above. Thank you!
  13. strel, thank you very very much, mate!!! You have demonstrated another example of patience reading through my confusing sentences The last question - can I also use these settings, if I want to install FULL .NET package (1.1+2.0+3.0+3.5) at first logon phase, NOT T-13: PROCESS_DNF1=YES PROCESS_DNF2= PROCESS_DNF35_DNF2=YES PROCESS_DNF35_DNF3=YES PROCESS_DNF35_DNF35=YES It looks like I connect two pieces of settings together, as shown above, to make a single full installer this time. What I want to achieve is to get a single installer which installs at first logon and has no errors in Event Viewer. As the logic suggests, this scheme should also work and prove true since "5 is a product of 2+3 OR 3+2 - the order of items doesn't matter"!
  14. Ok, guys, I want to share my own experince from what I've read in this thread and my understanding of making separate merged installers. Your methods may be different since my requirements are different from yours! Simple as that I will highly appreciate your comments as I'm a complete newbie in .NET processing although have a good experince with unattended XPCD. After my first post here (page 4), I've decided to take some time to read about your thoughts and problems in order to ask less questions (my post was toooo long. Thanks strel for patience reading it!) but to make a complete merged installer(s) for my unattended setup with no errors whatsoever. So, what I wanted from the synthesis was (I don't use any language packs since I'm comfortable with default English versions of .NET): 1) To compile a merged framework for .NET 1.1 w/ all hotfixes. Why I need a separate installer for .NET 1.1? Because I've read above that .NET 3.5 causes two tiny Event Viewer erros when installed at T-13 ("svcpack method", or when using full merge/AIO installer). Therefore, I thought it would be a good idea to compile .NET 1.1 to be used with n-Lite (svcpack) and then create a separate merged installer for 3.5 w/ all hotfixes to use at first logon (I prefer "RunOnceEx method"). Since the latter pack (231Mb) contains .NET 2.0 SP2, 3.0 SP2 and 3.5 SP1, I didn't feel a need to merge 1.1 and 2.0, and this assumption also made me confident about the method I've chosen. It also implied that I would have two (2) runs for compilation - i) .NET 1.1 full; ii) .NET 3.5 full. Ok, now to realise the first step, I have put the following files into a temporary folder with required .ini and .7z files, as instructed by strel on page 1: dotnetfx.exe; NDP1.1sp1-KB867460-X86.exe; and NDP1.1sp1-KB928366-X86.exe. Then, I've edited the script as follows: PROCESS_DNF1=YES <------ to compile a full 1.1 installer only; other settings remain untouched. PROCESS_DNF2= PROCESS_DNF35_DNF2= PROCESS_DNF35_DNF3= PROCESS_DNF35_DNF35= In this configuration I've been able to compile .NET 1.1 with all hotfixes. 2) To compile a merged framework for .NET 3.5 SP1 Full Redistributable w/ all hotfixes. This time I used these files (dotnetfx35.exe; NDP20SP2-KB958481-x86.exe; NDP30SP2-KB958483-x86.exe; and NDP35SP1-KB958484-x86.exe) and have changed the script as follows and re-run "SNMsynth.cmd": PROCESS_DNF1= PROCESS_DNF2= PROCESS_DNF35_DNF2=YES <------ to include NDP20SP2-KB958481-x86.exe. PROCESS_DNF35_DNF3=YES <------ to include NDP30SP2-KB958483-x86.exe. PROCESS_DNF35_DNF35=YES <------ to include NDP35SP1-KB958484-x86.exe. After running SNMsynth.cmd twice, I got two folders (OUT1 and OUT2) with individual n-Lite addons inside: DNF11.7z (.NET 1.1+hotfixes) and DNF20SP230SP235SP1.7z (.NET 3.5 SP1+hotfixes). Although I've not tested them during setup, I'm (a bit) sure that this meets my requirements and will install seamlessly. However, I would like to clarify two questions based upon Caspean's post re: .NET 1.1 above: i) does it mean that hotfixes for 1.1 are hotfixes and not SP (sorry if it sounds stupid when one cannot distinguish between a hotfix and a SP but they both contain "sp" in their names)?; ii) if not, does NDP1.1sp1-KB928366-X86.exe supersede/contain NDP1.1sp1-KB867460-X86.exe? Hope this helps! Anyone to comment/deny/approve my method? Appreciated!
  15. See above for Plamdi's post. I've personally tried to hide setup windows for countless number of times - no way!!!
  16. Just wanted to add a couple words. I have tried to use @SW_HIDE but, unfortunately, it didn't help So far I have made two scripts with AutoIt - 1) Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 (KIS); 2) WinAMP Pro 5.541.2189. Both of them install ok, without any user interaction. The reason I choose AutoIt is that some programs like KIS and WinAMP need to be pre-configured before actual installation. E.g., using AutoIt, I can prevent KIS from asking for Activation just simply clicking on "Activate Later". Or, for example, for WinAMP I can choose NOT to install Media Library, Visualizations, or Google Toolbar. All of these tweaks, as far as I understand, are not possible by simply adding silent/quiet switches because when I simply add silent switches (using USSF or CMenu) to my addons, what I got at the end of installation is a FULL INSTALL of the program with all sh*t copied to my computer. On the other hand, with all of its advantages, AutoIt still makes GUI visible. What I thought before is that AutoIt had a code or something to write into the script which acts the same way as silent switch. That's why I asked whether AutoIt hides GUI or not. But again, @SW_HIDE doesn't work for me. Maybe you could post the line with @SW_HIDE parameter that you use for your addon so that I can see if I did everything correct?! I will appreciate it! Thanks!
  17. Muchas gracias, elajua! Your website is great, by the way! I have solved the problem finally. The problem was with... nothing but the stupid behaviour of AutoIt itself changing from time to time. I prefer using the SciTe Editor instead of SciTe Writer. Testing my script repeatedly, I have noticed a strange thing - AutoIt was reading the same script differently at different times. E.g., soemtimes it recognized the window titles, sometimes - not! That's why I have decided to run taskkill command at a certain place of the script (at the end of actual installation of the program) to stop execution of MSI installer and then launch AVP.exe (the actual Kaspersky anti-virus program) separately to be able to make AutoIt to see the window titles. But yesterday, quite suddenly my previous script (posted above) with taskkill command deleted this time (since I thought it is not good and aesthetic to use the script this way) started working OK and gave me the result I wanted from it - it recognized the post-install windows of KIS Configuration Wizard. I'm happy now!
  18. At different forums I see that people recommend AutoIt to make the unattended install of addons silent. But now I can see some recommendations to use the silent switches even for addons made by AutoIt. So, why do I need AutoIt then?!? E.g., I want to make some changes in pre-install windows of Winamp (like disable Winamp Library and visualizations) - before they all are installed on my computer. When I make it with SVCPACK method with a simple silent switch, it installs with all these features installed - this is what I don't want to happen. Now, when I heard about the capabilities of AutoIt I was quite happy to use it. I even wrote a script which makes the whole process of install quite seamless. But when it comes to switches, I really get confused - 'coz some say AutoIt allows for switchless install and some say - you still need to use switches for different installers. Which one 's true, for God's sake!
  19. I'm trying to write an AutoIt script for unattended installation of Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 v8.0.506. It's almost ready and uses simple AutoIt commands (see the code below). It seems to work ok unless the Configuration Wizard page pops up. I used ShellExecute command to launch the main MSI installer. As soon as it finishes installing (even though 3 instances of "msiexec.exe" running in the Task Manager), it launches AVP.exe which is the actual program. But the problem is that at its first launch the program opens the Configuration Wizard, and starts the program only if you pre-configure the basic parameters before the actual program starts. I.e., AVP.exe is mainly responsible for the start of the main program but at its 1st launch only the Configuration Wizard starts and then passes the command to the main program. However, I still cannot enable the script to "catch" the Configuration Wizard window. No way... On the other hand, when I divide the code to two separate scripts - one responsible for MSI install, and the other one - to launch AVP.exe after the MSI install - the script works!!! I think the problem is with the passing of "rights" from MSI to AVP.exe. You can see it in the attached script. As you can see, when the mouse is on the "Next" button, AutoIt Window Info does not show any button info to include with ControlClick command - the command I often used in the script. Therefore, I've decided to use SEND("!n") command instead (since the underlined letter for "Next" is "N") but to no avail either. The only valuable information I could get from AutoIt Window Info was that that particular window belongs to Class AVP.WizardTpl. To be honest, it doesn't sound anything to me but I've googled around to find out a similar scripting problem. There is, however, no indication whatsoever. I've attached the complete script so that everyone could test it and guide me in the right direction. My question is - what can be done to proceed with Conf. Wizard Page and make it "catchable" for AutoIt?!? 20. Great thanks for clarification, jfcarbel! Well, as far as the unpackers are concerned, I currently use Uniextractor 1.6 but it is almost useless for 80% of available installers, especially those made by INNO Setup or Installshield. Although it is quite well for RAR and ZIP files. But to be honest, the only time I would care about Uniextractor is if I didn't have Winrar or 7-Zip in hand Anyway, what I am thinking now (in my quest to find a rapid solution ) is to copy the modified INI files (e.g. for Opera and IE7 Pro) to $OEM$ folder and then copy it to an install folder after setup finishes. What do you think?
  21. The answers are self-explanatory, thanks for that! But there is another question: What if I want to install the System files, Common files, and other windows install programs such as Windows Movie Maker, Windows Messenger to be installed on drive C:\, but non-Windows software such as FlashGet, Open Office, etc. residing at drive D:\ or any other partition? How is it possible to do in general and through Winnt.sif, in particular??? Thank you in advance!
  22. Hi all, With all due respect to the author(s) of MSFN's Unattended Windows Guide (which I often use for reference), I couldn't find solutions to some of my problems listed below. Sorry if I missed something and the answers can still be found in the Guide. Anyway, I'll appreciate if someone can answer the following questions: 1) I want to try AutoIt 3.3 to make some addons for unattended setup of XP SP3. I was inspired by Rado's excellent video tutorial on AutoIt but, unfortunately, it's not in English and doesn't cover the switches required for particular addons. Therefore, I would like to know more about the switches and especially how one can know the switches required for silent installation of different addons. 2) How can I install my addons from XPCD to a partition different from $OEM$/$1? Should I use a batch file to copy the CABs to a different partition (e.g., D:\) and launch it from over there? 3) I want to apply some registry tweaks after the XP setup finishes. I have found an easy way which allows adding the registry tweaks directly to "AddUsrReg" section of MrNxDmX's IE7 addon's INI files but not unsure if it's the right way to chose since I read about different setup phases like T-13, etc. and am afraid to do something wrong during the critical phases of installation. Should I add the registry tweaks to HIVESYS.inf instead? Thank you very much in advance!
  23. I'm quite new at MSFN and currently using RyanVM's integrator to make an unattended CD for XPSP3. Now I'm stuck in the middle of the process (I've only integrated SP3 to MSDN edition of Windows XP Pro SP2 and halted and would like to integrate some addons which I use often such as FlashGet, Adobe Reader 9.0, K-Lite Mega Pack, etc. Hence my question: Is it somehow possible to change install configuration of a specific addon so that I don't do this when XP setup finishes. E.g., how can I change the properties of a particular addon (for FlashGet this will be: changing the number of simultaneous downloads, for Adobe - changing from Viewing Pages Continuously (by default) to Single Page, etc.) before the XP setup??? Is there any config file or INI/INF files inside individual addon packs to apply the changes to??? Thanks in advance!
  24. strel, thank you very much for such a great topic!!! CMD and BAT scripts are my favourites when it comes to simplicity of install and complexity of the processes wrapped into just a few bits But I have to admit that the synthesis of several .NET packs was NOT that simple for me at a first glance into the .INI file. 1- I'm a bit confused with batch instructions since my only experience with .NET is version 2.0 installed manually on my XP SP3 to use nLite. Could you please explain me the process in more detail, therefore? QUESTION 1: When you say "specifically", does that mean I need only the above-listed 2 (two) hotfixes/SP or .MSP files either? 2- I have downloaded this file: .NET 2.0 SP1 package (NetFx20SP1_x86.exe). But later in your post I found that: QUESTION 2: Which one of "dotnetfx35.exe" should I download, if I want to make a full .NET pack with v1.1, 2.0, 3.0 & 3.5 with ALL hotfixes and updates?!? I assume that I cannot keep both "dotnetfx35.exe" files in the same folder since they contain identical names and, therefore, I need only one of them. This assumption leads to another question -> QUESTION 3: If .NET 3.5 SP1 full redistributable contains .NET 2.0 SP2 (which is only ~9Mb compared to .NET 2.0 SP1 (NetFx20SP1_x86.exe) weighing almost ~24Mb), does that mean that I don't need .NET 2.0 SP1 anymore? What I understand from "SPx" is that it is the service pack only but NOT the full .NET pack v2.0 plus specific service pack. Am I right?!? 3- The following is an excerpt from my edited "_SNMsynth.ini" in the first run: ; ----- PROCESS MAIN PACKAGES ; These settings request processing of .NET 1.1 (dotnetfx.exe), .NET 2.0 SP1 (NetFx20SP1_x86.exe) and each one of .NET 2.0 SP1/SP2, ; .NET 3.0 SP1/SP2 and .NET 3.5/3.5 SP1 inside any of the dotnetfx35.exe (3.5/3.5 SP1 respectively). DNF2 can not be processed ; simultaneously from both NetFx20SP1_x86.exe and any of dotnetfx35.exe. None of dotnetfx35.exe is compatible with 2K. PROCESS_DNF1=YES PROCESS_DNF2=YES PROCESS_DNF35_DNF2= PROCESS_DNF35_DNF3= PROCESS_DNF35_DNF35= In this configuration I've managed to get rid of the error message I encountered first by running "SNMsynth.cmd" (which prompted with "choose what file is .NET 2.0 SP# going to be processed from"). However, I could only integrate .NET 1.1 and .NET 2.0 together. Then (after reading your notes in .INI file), I've deleted the compiled file (DNFxxx.exe) from the OUT folder and restarted CMD with INI file re-configured as follows: PROCESS_DNF1=YES PROCESS_DNF2= PROCESS_DNF35_DNF2=YES PROCESS_DNF35_DNF3=YES PROCESS_DNF35_DNF35=YES QUESTION 4: Is this the right configuration to get a FULL .NET pack with all updates and hotfixes for XP SP3? I know, it depends on files I have put into the Work Folder. So, here is the list in alphabetical order: dotnetfx.exe dotnetfx35.exe (231Mb) NDP1.1sp1-KB867460-X86.exe NDP1.1sp1-KB928366-X86.exe NDP20SP2-KB958481-x86.exe NDP20SP2-KB958481-x86.exe NDP35SP1-KB958484-x86.exe NetFx20SP1_x86.exe QUESTION 5 (Final): I also assume there is no way to make a full switchless installer in the first run only. If true, how many runs are required (can you post your .INI configurations for such specific runs in respective order)?!? Thank you very much for your patience and support!!! Rustam
