Ohh, my god... I can't belive I missed this... I have just right now installed the shimgvw.dll by the regsvr32... method and now the mypictures folder works... I forgot I had asked if this was for the preview... For those having trouble, my laptop is running RP7 and I have lost track of whats installed. RP7 however is the me shell, op3 equiv isnt it. I don't know if this has been asked before or not but I've searched the internet for information such as the format of the calles 98 makes to an NT server to get the user list but have come up with nothing... I am wondering, is there a way to host a local userlist so User-level sharing can be used on files and possibly this list could be shared like NT does. If there currently is nothing that does this can one be made, how does the communication start, what format does the list travel, would it have to be a dll/extencion (like kex) or could it be a program/deamon if it were easyer to make (I have limated skills in vb/vb.net) Thanks for the information, Trev --- Ok, Maybe it will help if I try to put something on the table. OK after searching the registry I found that HKLM/network/security has a key called provider. In this key it has msad.dll. I assume this is what deals, or at least 'should' deal with username requests however I don't think it works. I tried getting a packet sniffer to run but this caused me a lot of hasstle, a the one I chose led me round in circles to find one that ran, i.e. it said download an earlyer version which then said it was corrupt. Can someone help me? Oh, I also found out that I can add names to the list without clicking add and by using the registry. In the same kay there is a key called shares or something (right above) which breaks down to Admin and anything shared. If you type a username as a string here it will appear in the properties menu for said shared folder. However I have inconclusive evidance this workes because although I added the uswername of the user on my other computer it said Authorisation Failed, even with the computername/username or even just the computername (Same as workgroup)... I am going to try and make both user level to see if this works. Trev

Unsure if this is kex or just the new site but MSFN keeps wanting to re-start IE6... It keeps coming up with the bug report dialog whenever a page loads fully. I have just managed to post this by Stopping the page once I saw the textbox. Trev

Yes, I am experiancing this problem right now (IE6). It takes me to click a lot of times a link bofore eventualy going. sometimes going back fixes othertimes refreshing works. Usualy these result in hang on white page and a re-type of address. Trev

OK, What I origonaly typed can be forgotten (It was lost when my computer crashed whilst re-enabeling my webserver anyway). MSN Messenger 7 build 7.0.0820 requires kex disabled to be able to connect. All other Progs I have seem to still work Trev

I got flash 10 to install no problem using the method set out by xeno and others. This topic however I would suggest is becoming an issue and should be moved to a new thread so this thread can be left for other problems. Trev

OK, I know you don't like requests but could someone find out what is required to stop a program from making an illegal Operation. The program is The GoldenEye Setup Editor Developed by Subdrag and Zoinkity of the Rare Witch Project. The program starts ok (found out it requires KEX because without it it complains about missinfg refrences such as windowsdir in dlls) The program does not need to be set to a particular OS Version, justy the extencions will do. Everything works untill you use the Visual Editor (Using Direct X) where the menues load and the background music loads but then it crashes with this message. Probably not, at least not by kex. That would be another project for someone who was willing to change some of the architechture of the kernel. As for drivers I wouldn't risk it as it may cause more problems than its worth. What is it with people wanting to install things 'by hand'? this is kernal patching and requires files to be replaced in dos etc, Be thankfull to Xeno for making it as easy as a click. Trev

Well, the thing is, I ignoreg the comment about backups because, in the situation with the PC that I call a server (because thats what it does, Win98ServerEdition ) it was a recent re-instyall meaning there were no preivious states, not only that but again in the case of PC the icon has never shown the past 2 re-installations. There is just one thing. On my laptop, where I origonaly had the icon and thought it was cool, the icon doesn't show when usb's are added however it does show for pcmcia cards, namly my network card. Im sure the solution will be the same but according to what I read about the registry entry I would have said it should never appear or always appear? Trev

YES!!!! Its working!!! I re-applied my sound icon, applied the power and also changed the registry systray to f. I re-started and it appeared. I unticked the power icon (desktop doesn't need it) and its still there. The systray registry entry on my sys is now e. Trev

OK, Just checked systray version and it is indeed 4.10.2224. It is also currently running (Checked in ctrl-alt-del) It is also run on startup. I was sure I had answwered the questuion before but maybe I wasn't tyoping at the time Trev P.S. Still no luck with ANY version... ...Maybe time for a re-install...again... This time, what do you recoment I install, by way of member projects, to get this working properly. I assumed Autopatcher would do everything that was nessesary, minus of cource Revolutions...

Yes same problem in RP9... There must ba an incompatability between nusb and another project... I don't know which though. I Autopatched my win98se I Autopatched + RP9 + win98-me 'd my Win98seRP9. ( it was actualy a copy of origonal before RP'ed) Before Autopatch, It was a fresh install. At the time autopatcher was on usb so I used nusb, then autopatcher then nusb again then (in other) rp9 then win98me then nusb again... When I had it working (for the first time ) on my laptop I actualy now beleve it was a 2.x series NUSB (did a 2.x series exist) Oh, by the way (back to your suggestion) It didn't work either... I tried with another explorer called explorer.ori (whichever project does this) to the same effect...

no difference.# I uninstalled usb2stack... from Add/Remove I deleted all usb devices in safe mode I installed Nusb3.3 all usb devices Automaticly installed bar the pen drive whicjh I had to click next on ... Yes, on my laptop I installed the first one I found (3.1 I think) then updates after till 3.3 when I 'Lost' my safe remove icon. On my desktop I just installed 3.3 and no icon exists in any version of 98 I have (R7.1,R9, AP'ed 98) R9 has me shell. When I install 3.2 after no effect results. I don't know what is going wrong. Why not offer your services to Xeno and Tihy. this way you can learn a bit more about what they are doing and then by making something to work with yourself you would benifit the wider comunity because it would be part of an app most of us aleready use. The worst that can happen is they turn you down. Even with that they may still tell you a bit about the layers they create to help you on your way. Ok, that worked which means it is 'functional' on my system however it still does not appear in my tray - yes I do have a pen drive in. Oh yeah I refer to Chozo4's rundll suggestion. Is there a way to invoke it to a background service like the rest of the systray (I know 9x doesn't call them that but at least you should know what I mean) With this in mind would someone, Maximum doesn't seem to be here, check that 3.3 does this instalation because its on 2 computers this has happened. The first I installed each build from 3 and had the icon which dissapeard after installing 3.3, the second I installed 3.3 and it never existed. Trev

Oooh, RP 10, wow I can't wait. If you do make the dll change in the next RP then how about basing it on RP config. What I mean is if you select XP theme then the XP shutdown dialog shows. If you select Vista a Vista one shows. And finaly if you choose classic then no dll is replaced (although there are 2 in the classic theme, ME's box and 98's box, difference being one uses drop box and other uses option buttons.) This idea would also go in hand with RP9's motto of being modualr so you can choose what extra features you want. Id have em all. Trev

Tihiy accomplished this in RP7 however I don't know how. There was a lot of cool features he 'built' into windows other than icons. RP9 surpasses RP7 with the exeption of some of these intergrations. (Installing 98tome does not intergrate all that was in RP7...) Trev
