  3. hello...i have a desktop pc that i have come to like so much these days...but i reinstalled WinXP SP2 and realized my ram has changed from 128mb to 64mb. after the reintallation of the OS...i used dxdiag to check and it told me i have 64mb..and also when i am trying to install some apps like adobe acrobat...i can't cuz my ram is 64mb...moreover tuneup utilities also tell me i have 64mb and that's how sure i am that my ram has reduced. physically i know there is 128ram in my pc and no one has changed it or something..cuz i live in my house alone...but previously, that was before i was installed winxpsp2, all of these things didn't exist..i could install adobe acrobat and tuneup told me i had 128mb of ram...so what is going on in my pc and how can i resolve this prob. please let me have any suggestions i will apriciate it. thanks.
  4. this has happened to me a lot of times till one day i just decided to find out what causes these kind of problems and read that when there is and electrical fluctuation, the disturbance in electricity supply is what actually corrupts the files system...and with me i just used recovery apps and got my docs back. then, i formatted my hdd..it was like yours.
  5. cat5 or 5e is the quality of the cable. Quality in the way of speed, not in product. cat5 is OK for home use http://donutey.com/ethernet.php No extra software needed. Plug & play. But i advice you to buy a switch. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proxyserver 100 meter is no problem. I don't understand what you say. I have 4 switches in use. Switches for home use and not pro-stuff. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Network_switch I have a 5-port switch of Dlink: this 8-ports GB-switch of Dlink: this Dlink with cable and wireless: and a 3com switch. All these switches gives a lot of heat and maybe your friend have put them in a case with fans? Or do you mean the switches like these: They are in a case. oh thanks so much. for the time your time...and yes...with the casing, i mean that picture in ur last post...why is the casing important....and can't i make my connection using a hub instead of a switch...what will be the drawback in using the hub?
  6. i want to get something clear before i start making preps to make a network. well my grandmom just subscribed for a new 256kbs cable internet in our new home. she is in a different room and i am in mine..but the internet in connected on her pc. i want to also have this internet in my room as well...and the following are my questions. 1. i have got an 8port hub. but i dont even know what kind of UTP cable i should buy...cat5e or cat5 or what? 2. and would i need any third party software to install the hub? 3. what is a proxy or a proxy server and how will it help if introduced in the small network that i want to make? 4. what is should be the maximum cable length so that the the network signal won't be depleted? 5. i go to some places and i see some people put their hubs or switches in some kind of casing...what is the use of the casing? it is like a box with vents around it. better still since you now know the kind of network i want to setup, i would be extremely grateful if you could tell me the items i need to buy, i mean if you can list the items that i would need to get...thanks in advance.
  7. well as rendrag said...never have 2 computers on the same network segment at the same...time...you will have problems...ip conflict and you won't feel so happy. but with the client question...any computer can be a client..eg when the network is peer-to-peer then both pcs are clients and servers if not then i hope you know the one that accesses resources on the other pc is the client.

I have installed Eset Smart Security as my Firewall. Resently i have purchased PCI Fast Ethernet & installed on both of my PC to create Network Sharing (Dailup Internet & File Sharing) between both. Internet is installed on Computer A After installation Computer A can Excess everything on Computer B, but Computer B cannot Excess anything on Computer A, it is asking for username & password. Both my PC are in the same workgroup & I have also checked the IP Settings & Disabled my Firewall on both & Users on Both are System Administerators. Is it possible that any Software installed on Computer A might be blocking the access to Computer B ? Kindly Help me out.
