  1. Good day oh Learned Ones. My wife's netbook HD bit the dust and I have have to replace it, The netbook does not have a cd/dvd drive in it so, I need to install both the recovery disk for the drivers and the OS which was Win7 Home Premium. I know there is a way to deploy the OS from a network drive but I am unsure about the recovery disk. Is there a guide that I can use to reinstall Win7 on the netbook off my network, that is how I upgraded from Starter to Home Premium? I do have a 2G thumb drive available, which sadly is just a bit too small for the iso to fit on. I need to get things set up for when the replacement drive arrives so I can just install it and go. Thanks.
  2. Have you tried just wiping out the VM and creating another VM? I think in the case of a VM it is better to do this as you have to do a clean install anyway. Since you want a new machine. . Mark Minnich Sent from my BlackBerry 9800 using Tapatalk
  3. If I am correct you cannot use an upgrade disk to install a full install of any flavor of either vista or win7. All either do is switch on features that are already there using the license key. Ill post again when I have more time Mark Minnich Sent from my BlackBerry 9800 using Tapatalk
  4. I just got home from work and turned on my PC. The CR is now being seen. It was plugged into an usb expansion when I posted the problem. I believe that the trouble was it not being on the motherboard usb port. If the trouble returns I'll repost. Thanks
  5. The card reader is plugged into a rear i/o usb port so I don't know if it is powered down at shutdown. I'll look at the device manager later and will post the device info then. Mark Minnich Sent from my BlackBerry 9800 using Tapatalk
  6. Howdy all I got a small problem. I have an internal usb card reader installed in my desktop and it works fine. The issue I am having is when I shut down or reboot the machine I no longer have the card reader visible in the device manager. If I unplug it from the usb port, which is routed outside my case and into a rear usb port, and plug it back in windows see it and all is well until I shut down again. I shoot alot of pictures and this is how I get them on my pc to edit them. So the $64,000 question is. How do I get windows to see the card reader when it restarts?? This is one thing I do miss from XP, I did not have this issue before I moved to Windows 7. Thanks
  7. Several things come to mind while reading your post. 1 The ip address is a local address assigned by windows when it can not obtain an ip address from an other source, router. 2 Can you hook up to the router via a cable and if so do you get an ip address from the router? If you haven't tried that do so.
  8. That's what I was afraid of Well I do have an old install disk from my XP Pro install since i migrated to Win7 so I could install that on his machine. and just transfer the data by copying it over from the other drive.
  9. Hello All My brother's computer, an old HP machine with XP on it, finally died, the hard drive is ok, The machine will boot and shut off after a few minuets. He bought a new barebones machine without an os. I need to know if it is possible to use the recovery partition on the old hard drive to reinstall XP on the new machine. He does not have a physical disk to reinstall but I do. Any help would be appreciated Thanks
  10. Thanks for the reply After following the steps exactly several times the only thing I managed to do was to get a black desktop. I tried renaming the default picture and changing the one I wanted to use to it without any success.
  11. Hello all I have run into a bit of a problem. My wide wants to change the desktop picture on the net book , running Win7 starter. The help states that the desktop can not be changed. Is there a work around?? There was also a statement that the desktop pic is still locked even if you upgrade the OS to home premium. If this is the case, I believe that a wipe and load of 7 home premium is required. Thanks
  12. XMF Does the machine in question see other wifi networks in the area?? As Ponch said it could be a MAC address issue. Make sure the router is not set for wireless access to be on. If it is, a new wireless device will not be able to connect to the router even if it see the router. I had this happen to me when I got my netbook and forgot to disable the feature.
  13. Well that stinks. I guess I just have to live with it.
  14. Hi All!! I just set up a home file server on my network. I have a minor issue when using IE to run Webmin to administer the server. I get a bad security certificate error and IE won't logon to the server unless I tell it to ignore the error. How do I make IE stop that I have tried to turn it off by changing the server ip to a trusted site and a restricted site. Neither worked properly. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
  15. I just read on one of my local tv station websites that Win7 is scheduled for an Oct 22nd release. http://www.wjla.com/news/aploader.html?js=whtm&id=628346 I am surprised that this is the first post here about this item even thought it is in the news section of the main page.
  16. It was right out of the box install for me, works great
  17. Hello all!! I am having a small problem with my xp install disk I made using the unattended guide. When I start the install everything is normal until, loading of drivers and setup files and such, the machine goes to reboot. Then it hangs at the point of where the machine sees the disk in the drive. It does not ask for anykey it just hangs. What I have to do is reset and remove the disk. When the computer reboots it asks for the disk, I put it in and the install porceeds. I think I may have one of my settings incorrect when I burn the disk. I am using ImageBurn to burn my DVD's. I saw somewhere, a page on how to burn iso's and what settings to use, but now I can't find it. Attached is an shot of the setting I am using Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks again O learned ones Sorry for double post I thought this would be helpful I found the solution Thanks to all who looked

  20. I guess I will try to get the beta from MS and try again. It was weird how right after I installed the beta I lost my connectivity. I did not have this issue with the prerelease build. so I guess I got me a bad copy. Thanks
  21. Well Actually I used ImgBurn to attempt to burn my dvd. After I posted I succeeded in burning an install dvd. However I ran into a slight snag. Windows7 beta did install but after it did I no longer could connect to the Internet. I believe the install disabled my nic. I ended up removing windows7 and doing a repair install of XP. As you all can see I am now back online. To answer the question of where I go the ISO I did get it on a torrent maybe ill try to get it from MS, but after what just happened I'm leary to try again.
  22. I seem to be having a bit of trouble getting the iso file I downloaded of Win 7 to burn and install correctly. First I got this message: Windows could not collect information for [OSImage], since the specified image file [install.wim] does not exist. So I reburned the dvd and now when I try to install from it at boot up, it just skips the dvd and boots into XP. I have the bios set for cd first and my XP install disk works properly. I have tried to make it like I did my XP unattended dvd without any success. Any suggestions? Thanks
  23. This one is correct. Run and close Nlite and then run Driverpacks Base.
  24. The driver packs themselves will be updated every time you use the DriverPackDB. Just remake your dvd every few months and you'll be fine. Also all the unused driver installed will just take up a little space, but will not cause any problems. In actually the drivers that change the most are the multimedia ones, ie: video and sound card, and video changes a few times a year.
