  1. I need to batch rename files with data from a excel sheet. The files are old financial records. The excel sheet, among many other data has their titles and corresponding date (year). The files already have the titles as names. I need to put the dates in the name of the files. Really hope someone can help me with this.
  2. I forgot to mention that I am using Win 7. The ( key -- is working now. cool! Don't know what happens from time to time. But as I said, it did happen. I set Shift + L in Launchy as shortcut/hotkey and I couldn't write capital L anymore for as long as Launchy was running, no matter whether in the background or foreground. Similarly, I couldn't type "(" at the time when I was posting this thread.
  3. I noticed I couldn't type capital L 'cos it was bound for Launchy as Shift + L. Now I can't type open bracket, shift + 9. Don't know what program has taht shortcut. Any help would be appreciated.
  4. I need to run a portable app in Win98 compatibility mode. Every time I run it, since it is portable, I have to change the compatibility. Is it possible to make a shortcut for it so that the shortcut runs the exe in compatibility mode, while being portable? Please help me out.
  5. CAD is Canadian Dollar. I am planning to build it mainly for gaming, thus the iz3d monitor. US price is not very relevant to CAD price, since here almost everything has an inflated price tag on it.
  6. Thank you for opening my eys to more options. I am going to sell my G1S soon and get down to the final configuration. The only reason I am moving to a desktop is for the iz3d monitor. So, my mind is kinda set on that.
  7. Thanks bro. I'll look into other casings, possibly with a PSU. As for the CPU, I cant afford Intel quad-cores. I was looking for the best CPU within my budget, and that one seemed to fit the budget.

Is this a good deal?
  9. Checked the codec of the videos with GSpot. They were divx. So reinstalled divx player. And its all good
  10. It is not the only movie. There are few like these that I have noticed. It is a problem with one of the codecs. The movies run perfect when I convert then to mpg, 3gp or mp4. originally they are avi. also, converting to wmv doesn't solve the problem. so, it is a problem with one of the avi codecs, I am guessing. It happened to me before too, when I was using K-Lite. Few days ago I clean installed XP and installed K-Lite again. And the same problem. Before I never suspected K-Lite. But, now, although I uninstalled K-Lite, the problem is not going away. And currently I am using VLC.
  11. I am getting green lines in videos. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling K-Lite Mega COdec Pack. Here is a pic of how it looks: Got the same problem in a few movies. Don't know if this is a problem with the movies or my codecs.
  12. I am using it via eSATA port of my laptop. It's a G1S-A1. Never thought of checking the eSATA speed before today. It seems to be 3.0GB/s.BTW, I initialized it with Windows' Disk Management. And everything seems to be fine. No jumper. Had to test it out in my existing enclosure, that houses another hdd. so, I am waiting for another enclosure via mail.
  13. Today I got my WD Cavair Green in mail. This is my first SATA drive. My first question is, are SATA HDDs plud-n-play? Or do I need to do something to make XP recognize it? I am already using an external SATA drive via USB. Second question is, the drive has three jumper settings written on it like in the image: http://media.bestofmicro.com/V/Q/52982/ori...green-label.jpg the settings are: SSC(Spread Spectrum Clocking), PUIS(Power Up in Standby) and 1.5GB PHY Which of these features are really necessary and harmless? At the moment I have only 2 spare jumpers handy. So I can pick a max of 2 settings. Any help would be appreciated.
  14. You are right. Windows XP detects them by default. It came with Win98 and the video driver was missing. But its all good now.
  15. Says, windows can not find \\%192.168.1.x%\c$ or \\%192.168.1.x%\admin$
  16. as I said on the post, for some reason my version of XP is stripped-off of all those file sharing tools that come built in. Even then I tried to set up a shared folder yesterday. but failed. also failed to set up a filezilla server. for some reason I can't see the ftp server. or may be I am just doing it wrong. For that reason I am relying on tightVNC for now. btw, I turned off all the firewall when doing these. I was just looking for a third party software that does file sharing over lan.
  17. My router is 54 mbps, which is very common. But I don't get that speed over tightVNC when transferring files between 2 PCs. What is a good tool that's made for the sole purpose of transferring files over lan, and can transfer files as fast as the network permits? Many people suggested the built in xp file sharing tool. but, for some reason that tool is stripped off my xp version. also, it seems, that tool needs a lot of settings. I was looking for something like remobo or hamachi, but for lan.
  18. Here is the description: Small Form Factor (12.5x3.75x14.5 inches): Pentium III 1.0 GHz 15GB HDD 512MB Ram CD-Rom Video, sound and network (100BaseT) integrated. I bought it second hand. So some parts might be modified by the previous owner. But, I am pretty sure the processor was left untouched. Also, here is a picture of the desktop: The previous tried out different OS(s) on the PC, and therefore all the factory data are not there anymore. Is there still a way I can find the model number and install the original drivers?
  19. Sure , were you doubting it? jaclaz I wasn't doubting it. It was a lack of planning on my part. As a result I had to rename lots of folders and then make huge changes in my script. But the important thing is, it worked!
  20. Is there a way the script can be stored in a temporary location just before execution, so that the folder is not locked while its execution? Do you think batch commands can do it?
  21. I need to delete the parent folder that the vbs script is in. For example, if the vbs script is in the folder "New", I need to delete the folder with everything in it using the script.
  22. On the light of your previous reply I had to make some changes to my original question.
  23. I have a folder called LEET under the parent folder FX. inside I got a file named LEET that has no extension, but for here I am gonna call it "LEET.file". I need to write relative path command so that the batch file moves the file LEET.file to the folder FX and deletes the folder LEET after that. It looks like this: \FX\LEET\LEET.file I need to make it \FX\LEET.file The location of the bat file is irrelative since I make it go into the folder LEET and etc. I know the names are kinda confusing, but they can't be changed. I tried this to move the file: cd FX\LEET\ MOVE leet ..\ This is not working. And to delete the folder I am doing this: cd ..\ RD /s /q LEET which is working. Any help would be appreciated.
  24. I was playing with boot screens. In the process somehow I manage to lose boot.ini in dual boot XP Pro SP3/ VISTA Ultimate system. XP is installed in the primary partition, and Vista in the extended partition. What can I do at this point? I am afraid to shut down my PC, 'cos I have had enough with reinstalling XP & Vista.
