  1. I've been trying to figure out my network probs. to that are related with "too much nliting" . I guess that the only way to find out, unless somebody hasn't been there before you, is using the trial and error method. Apply the tweaks you use successively until you stumble across your problem. I know it takes sometime, but it's worth it if you want nice, nlited XP.
  2. Check your winnt.sif file inside the I386 folder and look for TargetPath and ProgramFilesDir. If you have any doubts, check the MSFN unattended site
  3. I guess you'd have to make a script that uninstalls the programs you don't want inside windows and then integrate them in your RunOnceEx or whatever you use. I doubt nLite supports "sp3".
  4. I see.. I'd suggest you start off by reading this. That should clear up a few things for you.
  5. Eh..I guess what you're talking about is the switches for those softwares, correct? RunOnceEx is a batch file that puts all your installations in queue inside your registry so that it kicks in the next time you start. Nero Xoftspy /S Limespy LimeWire\LimeWireWin.exe /S taskkill /IM LimeWire.exe Avast Antivirus Flashget As for Internet Explorer, it's gonna demand some work. OR, you could use Firefox instead which doesn't even need to be installed I found all these switches by using the search function so I'd suggest you do the same in the future, because I honestly cannot find a program that hasn't been discussed Regards, Marthax
  6. Yeah, but I always keep getting the message that I'm using too short search terms when I'm searching for "Windows 2003 vs Windows XP". Maybe you could help me out. What am I doing wrong? Nevermind, I figured that the search at the bottom works far better than the one at the top so used that one instead and I found what I was looking for. 2k3 it is! Thanks for the help. Marthax
  7. Hi everybody! I've been reading lot of comments lately about Windows 2003 being better than XP as a workstation OS. I really don't know much about 2k3 Server, but this really got me interested. I'd really appreciate comments from anyone that has been using both XP and 2k3 Server as a WORKSTATION. What makes it better or worse? What are your experiences? You catch my drift. Thanks in advance! Marthax
  8. 4? I tried the latest one, 2.1 but it didn't change a thing. I can't even find those drivers on their site, I downloaded them from somewhere else. Their site is gotta be on of the worst. I could use a map.
  9. Nope. Anything else?
  10. One tip for the future. When it comes to Windows modifications, be sure to check registry tweaks because the guys here at MSFN have created awesome collections of them and you'll find almost anything in there. Anyway, here's what you want to use: ;Change location of my documents [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders] "Personal" ="C:\\My Data" "My Video" ="C:\\My Data\\My Video" "My Music" ="C:\\My Data\\My Music" "My Pictures"="C:\\My Data\\My Pictures" "Favourites" ="C:\\My Data\\Favourites"
  11. Hi all! As the title says, my Microsoft Lifecam VX-3000 software crashes evertime I try to start it with a "error reporting" message. At first, I knew that it was because of my nLite Windows because I removed almost all hardware support there is, so I made a new version where all the hardware support where unchecked, but the problem still remains. I've tried it on my laptop (untouched version of Windows) and it works fine there, so it can't be the Lifecam software. Does anyone have a clue what component could be causing this behaviour? Thanks! Marthax
  12. Yep, that's what the installer is telling me all of a sudden when I'm doing a UA, AutoIT scripted installation of Xpize. Of course, I choose "continue anyway" and everything goes on smoothly. I don't understand where this message came from because it appeared out of nowhere. It used to be all good and fancy, but no more. I thought "well, I'll just put it number one on the installation list then". No sir, the problem still remains. Anyone? Thanks in advance! Marthax
  13. I know, it's just like in XP. I just thought that Vista would be a one step ahead since it's newer. You kinda expect basic things like RAID and SATA drivers to be integrated by default when a OS gets released in 2007. Atleast, that's what I expect. Vista has already disappointed me a couple of times, so I'm used to it though.
  14. It won't detect your drives if you have the same controller as me.
  15. I thought I could contribute a little bit to this great thread. I felt like playing Mafia the other day (on of the greatest games btw) and realized that the intro was missing at the beginning and the menu video was all messed up. It was filled various colors and patterns. It didn't look nice at all. Anyway, turns out that Mafia needs the "Intel Indeo codec" to be able to run Bink Player so you might wanna keep that in mind anytime a game intro or menu graphics doesn't behave the way you wants. Besides, it doesn't impact the overall size of your UA Installation anyway so the choice should be obvious, unless gaming is completely out of the question.
  16. It turned out to be not only a service, but also a "operating system" option. To be able to use the built-in Windows scanning software you have to keep System event notification (SENS) service and the "Logon Notifications" under operating system.
  17. Well, that's what I'm trying to say, but in a more general way. The newer OS, the crapier it gets because the user now has lesser and lesser influance over their systems. Instead, the OS is making all the choices for you. Or in this case, MS. I honestly don't think that DRM or any other integrated annoying features will last in the end, because there'll always be struggle between the "bad" and the "good". MS starts using DRM = People find a way to disable it.
  18. Well, I've narrowed it down to the Services. It's gotta be one of them, but which one?
  19. He has already done that. And what does that have to do with anything? It's like saying "I don't know how to drive a Swedish car, maybe one from the States will work." No no, it's gotta be hardware related. My guess would be the same that DL. said, either the PSU or some other hardware. Try disconnecting everything except the essentials. I know it's a lot of work, but then again you want your computer up and working, right?
  20. To not install it at all. Try me
  21. Yeah, but have you tried to completely avoid installing it? Not installing it at all?
  22. If you've reinstalled and formatted your HDD and the problem still remains then it's gotta be hardware related so everything is definately NOT running fine. Obviously, something's causing your problem. What about the first time Windows XP boots up after a clean installation (and you haven't installed anything yet). Does the problem appear then when you try to restart? Just figured..it could be your antivirus. Norton Antivirus,Ghost etc. is gotta be one of the crappiest software's out there according to me. Boy do they slow down your computer with all their services and startup things. Tried uninstalling it?
  23. What about your harddrive? Has it been making any unusual noises? Noticed anything? Do you have any other devices connected to your computer? And what about Device Manager? Does it show any question marks?
  24. Hi Everybody! I keep getting this message with my nLited version of XP and I'd appreciate some help because I can't seem to figure it out. I've always used my scanner (HP PSC 750) with it's standard drivers and the integreated Windows software, but I guess I've removed something that prevents it from running properly. I've attached my settings. Thanks! Marthax LAST_SESSION__205212.28_22.44.06_.INI
  25. AutoIT is an excellent choice. It's a script language that does that and much more. Try it and you'll love it
