  1. You should never place your production DNS server for your AD in the DMZ. Either it should be seperated through a forrest design or a whole seperate DNS structure to your own internal DNS structure. Cause... it will be a field trip for a hacker if he can read resources from your internal DNS strcuture in the DMZ.. my advice, let them work for their glory
  2. AT is replaced from NT in win2000 and win2k3 with schdtasks.exe, if u r running that platform...
  3. Hi there... I am not sure i understand u but i think u r aiming for an unattended installation of Windows 2003 server. Try looking in the unattended section of the forum. If u dont get lucky there is a manual on the valid section for a windows 2003 server unattended file on the server CD in a cab file... (deploy.cab??) cant remember though... I use the: [LicenseFilePrintData] AutoMode = PerSeat for installing win2003 machines over here in my unattended file... Hope it helps..
  4. MSI can be a pain in the back since many appz are hardcoded for dependecies and so on. My advice is to edit it through WISE if possible and hope that the installation of your app is not wrapped in another installer, such as Installshield!
  5. Yup, I agree.... Sort out your naming of the DC and domain through use of nslookup to eliminate DNS missconfiguration. DCdiag and NetDiag are great in these circumstances.
  6. I run robocopy on my WinPE build. Havent had any problems with it... Best Regards
  7. Hi Per.. PE does take the first avaiable drive letter for assignment! However, when it comes down to your issue with diskpart of the D: drive, you just add /noerr switch ( i think ) to your diskpart script. This will enable the diskpart script to continue running through the script even if there is no d: drive available on the computer. Think that will sort you out if I understood your question right.... Take care...
  8. Hi.. i am trying to access the registry of a win98 remotly and i get it conencted... however, when i am trying to access the HKLM\Software key i get: "error while opening key" Why? There is no permission i can set on the Win98 registry.... tried the native Win98 regedit.exe also... same thing.
  9. Thx dude... feels nice with some clear guidelines in tha mornin
  10. Yup, it is.... and i am using that on comps connected to the domain structure, however this hack would be for off site computers, not connected to the domain...
  11. Nice to have u with us...
  12. Dunno about Windows Update but for SUS server it is only to add some entries to the registry and off u go... Required entries for SUS can found @ http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/1176/ and http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/1241/
  13. Upps... there were more threads that I didnt see... soz!
  14. Most CD / DVD players and so on use a generic driver by means off Plug n Play technique if that is what u mean? As long as you have a working and supported hardware device off the operating system you are running it should work out just fine....
  15. Hi there... I have read the posts from you and i saw another guy in the WinPE part off the forum that had a similiar prob. I call the Winnt32.exe setup without a /noreboot switch and after the file copy phase off Winnt32.exe, the machine reboots and continues the unattended installation off the Windows.... But, after reading this and the other posts, i dont know if this is normal behavour or if I just got lucky.... Oh, and hey mbouchard... plz elaborate on your script to prevent the reboot loop off the installation as mine just went round in circles when i tried your setup technique. Must have done something wrong but I think I have all the files in tha right place.. Och du tjabom snubben... Lycka till
  16. Oki, so here it is... trying to run a vbscript from the RunOnce entry off the registry to add a .pac file for customizing Internet Explorer (AutoConfigURL)... When I run the script from within Wndows through cscript.exe it works out just fine but from the RunOnce entry... nothing happens... any1? Is this registry hive locked at the logon sequence or? The reg entry would be: HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\AutoConfigURL
  17. Welcome or... Välkommen hit and take care vodka dude...
  18. Yup... I have used the Iceman solution, detectCD.exe I think it was called... and then modified his code somewhat to comply for personal reasons... Check that one out and see if it helps u aswell... http://icemannd.msfnhosting.com/index.htm?...tm&detectcd.htm Guess it will get down to try and error... GL
  19. Oki, so I found out what was wrong.... when I ran my diskpart script i used the /v: switch and named the drive to WindowsXP. Then i got that error... ran i again without the switch, and i worked out great.
  20. Nope, i am running it off the custom WinPE CD ontop off a test computer (with a HDD)
  21. Hi ppl... since I will ask a bunch off questions regarding everything that comes in my way I thought it would only be fare to introduce myself. My name is Lars Wurm and I live in southern Sweden, working with MS products, mostly regarding deployment, right now off Windows XP MUI and Windows 2003 Server... Feel free to contact me on msn / the forum whatever... and i will try to help out as much as i can Cu later ppl.... keep on truckin!
  22. Shouldn't I register the dll's that comes with the VB6 runtime from within the WinPE before running the application? or is it just n00b me that missed this part?
  23. Dunno if u have a special criteria for wanting the PE to assign a special drive letter to the CD as you could manage most circumstances with PE to refer it to as %systemdrive% variable. I use this variable to run appz off the WinPE CD (path). Check out: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=18150&st=10
  24. Coooool.... i get right on it then... i just need to refresh my memory on Photoshop and stuff Thx alot guys....
