Windows Explorer Unattended View Tweaks Never Work
Br4tt3 replied to Labe's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Dunno a "nice" way to do this hack but there is one thing that always works, however this is not a very clean/nice script function... Use vbscript sendkeys to simulate a keyboard GUI click sequence... it will defintly work even though it is not silent or nice for that matter... just be sure to run the sendkeys script when no other windows will blink / flash as the script wóuld then loose focus of the Window that u r trying to manipulate... I guess u could use AutoIT to do the same trick... -
WMI / ADSI is the way to go... just go to MS site, script repository and u will find it... and a question for MCT: Autoit is the "same" as sendkeys in vbscripting... does it have the same downsides as sendkeys? as in I (the user) cannot change focus on the Windows while the script is running or it will loose focus from where it was? thanks for clarification! Regards

Hmm.. dunno what u r talking about but if I am not totaly wrong the entry Autopartition = is only for RIS installs which means that RIS will partition and format tha drive for u auto. The main downside to RIS is that u have limited or no logic to handle disk mangement (partitions and drives) in its native format. If u choose not to use autopartition entry, then RIS will halt and prompt u for the correct partition / drive to install to... If u have access to WinPE u can boot of the RIS into WinPE, fix the drive(s)/partition(s) from within WinPE---> copy XP i386 files to drive and the launch tha winnt32.exe from within WinPE.. all this is already up in tha forum.. google/search tha forum for it!! Keep truckin.. sausage eater out for tha weekend.

There is many ways to do this... search tha forum and I am sure it will turnup. I know tha Icemand had some stuff on this mater (detectcd.exe i think...) However, u can do this kind of logic with vb (wmi) script also... good luck dude

Looks nice to me even though I cant see any support for USB mem stick boot as there has been talk about... Maby I got another version than u guys... the RAM drive rocks though

Lo folks Implemented my SP2 image on the Win2003 Server RIS, the WinXP FireWall is turned of via the .sif file for the domain profile. I have ensured this through port scan / GUI and the log file of the installed target machines. I also can "push" applications toward the machine from our central distribution tool (not AD GPO). I have installed 12 machines so far in my test environment succesfully. So far so good... Issue: number 13. FW turned ON The .sif file is the same (FW turned off), no GPO for controlling the FW in place in my AD (no SP2 .adm) and the .inf file for controlling the WinXP firewall is also set to turning the FW off. Just like the 12 machines before... tried to reinstall the two machines, number 11 (a succesfull) and 13 (the faulty), with same outcome... i am out of clues.. any suggestions?

Can be numberous of things.. most likely some mismatch in ur .sif file with some dependecies... post ur sif so we can check it out..

cant use custom setup screen, plz help
Br4tt3 replied to amardeepsingh's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
If I am not totally mistaken, make sure that u have the hacked uxtheme.dll file so that u can support custom themes.. in your U.A i386 folder, make sure u only have the files in the format of .dl_ (not .dll, as in not compressed), I guess you can also run them trough modifype to nsure Win32 installation will copy them without probz. the same file (uxtheme.dll) is also present in sp2.cab and driver.cab (i think), go ahead and replace em aswell, even though I am not sure if this absolute necessary, maby someone can answer that for me? to make the file (uxtheme.dll) go into (uxtheme.dl_) use: makecab.exe as in to compress it.... keep truckin dude -
lo.. been reading the forum entries for customizing Win.. and tried all the stuff out with diffrent succes to the diffrent issues. I end up with a coupple of questions: 1. Does the editing of the NTOSKNRL.EX_ file guide(s) also incorporate SP2 versions of the file? Cuz when dealing with SP1 ver of NTOSKRNL.EX_ I can create an ISO and use it in VirtualPC with succesfull result. WinFP also reports that it cannot restore the original signed MS version of the file. Performing it on SP2 results in WinFP says the same thing but VirtualPC uses the original file ??? 2. Is it a must to change all the instances of the specific file (NTOSKRNL.EX_) as to in driver.cab and so on. Seems to me it works sometimes and sometimes it doesnt, even if only change the file in the U.A i386 folder. Regards Sausage Eater

Yup, this file mainly points out the "valid" MS files for the installation, how to use them, where to place them on drive and how to "tagg" the files... I only alter it when adding masstorage drivers to the installation... nice 1 link @: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=14852 & http://wug.lutteman.se/articles/ris-add-storage.htm

I agree, thats why I am gonna enabled it again later on with GPO's. I just wanna have it disabled until the .adm files is in place. Thanks for the reply, the thing is though according to MS doc: Type entry = optional takes the value of 0 / 1 / 3 (default = 3) both domain & standalone..... so if I obmit type as an entry I would get the default of 3 which will disable the FW for both domain and standalone comps installed with the image.. or I am totaly out of it?

Lo folks... Oki, got my corp unattend sp2 image up and running now. Got one question though, I have set my .sif to: [WindowsFirewall] Profiles=WindowsFirewall.TurnOffFirewall [WindowsFirewall.TurnOffFirewall] Mode=0 since I am going to control the fw with policies.. however, when entering the WinFW applet in a newly installed machine with tha image, it shows the configuration as if it is enabled even though i can run special appz which utilizes none conventional ports and are not added to the exceptions list at this time. Any1 got a good way to verify that the FW is disabled even its shows in the GUI as enabled? I know.. run a port scan, but then again I want another good way of verification for the WinXP SP2 FW anyway. Thanks....

Hmm... then again I have to extract all / remove the file and cab all tha remaining files back again... unless I am totally wrong. Tried cabarc.exe aswell... downloaded the winzip and winrar latest version, didnt work for me though...
-
Hi Find it abit tedious to extract a whole .cab to remove one file (or smth) and the put it back in a .cab... Any1 know an app for that purpose? tried just about everything but they just dont let u delete / add a file into a cab without repackage it again.

Go Lego boys...

lock.exe c: ?? (if that is the drive to lock of course)
-
Nope... dont thinks so either.. just like XP looses its when connected to domain structure.... thats MS intturpretation of "work is not supposed to be fun" I guess

Winnt.sif with Win2003 server
Br4tt3 replied to Incroyable HULK's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
i also have had some problems when running the unattend setup from Cd using an winnt.sif as the answer file, i know it works cuz I am currently running on one but when having this problem, u just changed the name to whatever.txt and everything worked as a charm... not a very logic answer but true.... I guess it some Redmond secret -
In regards to adding support for RAID controllers in WinPE: Hmm, have a question regarding the way to add mass storage drivers into WinPE 2004... In the winpe.chm doc it states that the PnP feature will only use the chipset mentioned in the [sCSI] section. This was not the way in the prior version of WinPE, cuz it read and detected every chipset supported by one driver independent of the [sCSI] section entries... Any1 have a clue why MS has done this=? Just seems as a great pain in the butt compared to the way of doing PnP of the prior WinPE release... Regards

How to install IIS unattended in XP SP2?
Br4tt3 replied to quya's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Dunno, but u can try to dump the components name if they have changed with SP2 from SP1 with sysocmgr.exe. Maby MS have made some new dependecies when installing IIS... -
Unattended Boot.ini Modifcation
Br4tt3 replied to Erlkönig's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
think u can obtain BBD 2.0 from MS webby freely, contains script for modifying the boot.ini..... -
Hi Since this is more likely handled by programmers, I will try the question in this forum. I am at @ rather large company where we have a huge load of modules (msi applications) / applications / OS and versions to test upon. Today, for each new version / release we manually need to allocate resources (machines & people) who have to test the scenarios written on paper. To me this sounds old school, when I read this link: http://weblogs.asp.net/scottgu/archive/200.../28/249458.aspx http://weblogs.asp.net/scottgu/archive/200.../03/251930.aspx I dont wanna compare the corp I am @ with MS bu we still are in a need to automate testing scenarios and other crucial information before proceeding. MSI modules are partly devloped using conflict handling databases (WISE) but that is not enough as we cannot reproduce / add functionality tests into this feature. My question: Has anyone ever seen a system / application that handles these kinds of things / scenarios when having a large platform to manage?????? Platform to support for the specific usage of my question is: Windows 2003 & Windows XP Please, point me in any direction as money is of no concern (not my money)!

As with a full blown Windows installation, i go F8 and choose debugg.. then I can see exactly which driver is used for the mounting of drives (RAID) etc etc... any way to do this in WinPE. My prob turned out to be a compability problem. One supplied driver for a chipset worked ( to a certain point / not all features ) when it was using a nearby compatible driver. If I could just load some kind utility or what ever to verify which driver been selected due to PnP for which RAID I could eazyly saved some precious time... Developers, where are u ?
