    driver.cab error

gneville, I use nLite and have never had a problem. I think it is more important to understand what you are doing (Last Session) and that you are not running nLite more than once against the same source. Exactly what is the error you are getting? Please post a screen shot, if you can. Enjoy, John.

    driver.cab error

gneville, please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Please report when you have a solution, so others can benefit. How are you burning the CD - with nLite or other program? Enjoy, John.
  3. Selena, you need to remove the Tweak "Explorer-Launch folder windows in a separate process" - it exposes a Windows bug (probably does not effect your problem). I see no drivers in your Last Session. Since you said you added driver packs, this may mean that you have run nLite more that once against the same source. This is asking for problems and can and should be avoided. Enjoy, John.

    Xp freezes on boot

Filip0, yes, it is possible depending to how the SPs were added. I really think you are going to have constant problems with this copy of Windows. Enjoy, John.
  5. Wow, -X-, good find. I looked on my real (host - not nLited) machine and have no DefaultPassword PW key. But, I do have one on my VM with an nLited Windows! On my next build I will use the Unattended option to encrypt my PW. Thanks, John!
  6. masterpointer, the Last Session you attached does not have the Unattended task active. How did you specify a password? Did you run nLite against the same source more than once? If so, that is probably your problem. Please see my first reply just one more time. I am far from a security knowledgeable person, but it is my understanding that the password is stored in Widows in a one way encryption. This means the entered PW is passed through this process and then checked against the stored one. The stored one cannot be passed through a process that yields the original PW. Please start over with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders and make one pass through nLite and see if your problems don't go away. Enjoy, John.

    Xp freezes on boot

Filip0, testing the original is a really good idea. I hope you know you are taking a real chance of getting dangerous SW in a DLed Windows copy. Enjoy, John.

    Xp freezes on boot

Filip0, thanks for the link to your DL site. I am not a legal authority. Hopefully someone else will comment on that. There is also the problem of these types of DLs containing bad code, such as viruses, etc. You can still buy Windows XP, at least in English. XP Pro is about 130 USD and Home about 90 USD at Newegg.com. Your Last Session indicates you are integrating an SP. If the original CD contains SP3, you do not want to add it again. Please post a Windows Explorer screen shot of your original DLed source folder. Enjoy, John.
  9. masterpointer, that goes into a Run dialog (Start-Run...). If you want me to try to help, please read my previous replies and attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Enjoy, John.
  10. Squallman, I'm talking about nLite. Open nLite and go to the Unattended task and then look at what I said before. Also, please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. We need to look at it to get started helping you. Enjoy, John.
  11. Squallman, you cannot use the Repair function unless you specified the Prompt Repair mode in Unattended-General tab-Unattended Mode. Please see the Help next to the Unattended Mode pull down (? in circle). And, please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini (found on your CD). Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Please report when you have a solution, so others can benefit. Enjoy, John.

    Xp freezes on boot

Filip0, are you using a valid, legal copy of Windows with a valid, legal key? Probably most DLed copies of Windows are illegal and often contain all kinds of bad stuff. If you will look at the forum rules (link at the top), you will see that the forum does not support warez - illegal SW. If you are using a legal of Windows, tell us where it came from and, please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Please report when you have a solution, so others can benefit. Enjoy, John.

    nLite problem

gaelon, the problem I was chasing turned out not to be related in any way to yours. Please see the last of this thread. If you still have a problem, please come back and let us know. Enjoy, John.
  14. fpsdf, running nLite on a recovery CD is fraught with problems. Please search for other's experience. If you are willing to do some work, I suggest you give it a try. I also strongly suggest you install a virtual system for testing (VMware Server, VirtualBox and VirtualPC are all free). Best of luck, John.
  15. crookadile, I had an idea. If you can find the keys for the other icons on your Desktop, delete them all, then add the keys back in, in the order you want them, top-to-bottom. Please let me know what you think. Enjoy, John.
  16. Reijomie, please see this post. Enjoy, John.
  17. Jinx_Inc, we have had some success lately restoring removed drivers. See here. So if you are willing to do some work, we can give it a try. So, please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Please report when you have a solution, so others can benefit. Enjoy, John.
  18. ddrueding, I use a tool called TCPOptimizer (Google knows all about them) to tune my Internet connection. It mainly adjusts the receive buffer size (RWIN - Receive WINdow), which is important for fast connections. My RWIN is set to 347,480 Bytes (default 65,535) and my Roadrunner connection runs up to 30 Mbs. Following are my settings for the key posted by GrofLuigi. Enjoy, John. ; Reg2Inf v0.46 - http://tinyurl.com/fgqyf HKLM,"SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\ServiceProvider","Class",0x10001,08,00,00,00 HKLM,"SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\ServiceProvider","DnsPriority",0x10001,03,00,00,00 HKLM,"SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\ServiceProvider","HostsPriority",0x10001,02,00,00,00 HKLM,"SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\ServiceProvider","LocalPriority",0x10001,01,00,00,00 HKLM,"SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\ServiceProvider","ProviderPath",0x20000,"%%SystemRoot%%\System32\wsock32.dll" HKLM,"SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\ServiceProvider","NetbtPriority",0x10001,04,00,00,00 HKLM,"SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\ServiceProvider","Name",0x0,"TCP/IP"
  19. Selena, just above in the Sticky section of this forum is the very topic you are looking for. If you continue to have problems, please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Please report when you have a solution, so others can benefit. Enjoy, John.
  20. masterpointer, please reread my reply above. Enjoy, John.
  21. ddrueding, if the suggestion by mara- does not deal with your problem, please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini and we will take a look. It can be found on your install CD. Enjoy, John.
  22. Vhal, I guess I had a block - forgot you were on a VM. I run VMware Server and don't have to load any drivers. VMware supplies its own drivers. I have never used VirtualBox. At the time I started this, it did not support my OS (XP x64), so I know nothing about it. Have you used it before? Have you successfully installed Windows on a VM? Do you have an HDD defined in VB? I won't look at your drivers unless and until you have problems on your hardware. Please let us know about your VB configuration. There are lots of people here who do know a lot about it and can help. Enjoy, John.
  23. Vhal, the Last Session you posted has only one driver. This, for sure will not work. I think you need the first two and the pair for ICH10. Please post a link of where you DLed the drivers and we will take a look at them. Try pushing F8 during the looping and see if you can get into Safe Mode. If you can, turn off Auto Restart (My Computer-Properties) and reboot. It should stop on a BSOD. Please post the code. Enjoy, John. EDIT: A search will show many hits on ""Explorer-Launch folder windows in a separate process", this in particular.
  24. dusty2all, when you say "won't start!", do mean it won't power up or it won't try to boot? If it is the first, you have knocked loose a cable somewhere or can't guess. Many newer MBs have a power on button on the board, so try that. If it is the latter, then perhaps your SATA cables are not seated properly. By select it to format, I meant to select a partition and try to format it. If you do not want the defined partitions, then tell Windows Setup to partition it as you prefer. Then format and try your install. Hope things get better and less weird soon. Perhaps swap your SATA cables back. Enjoy, John.
  25. 5eraph, great! It looks like this process is fraught with problems. Thanks much for chasing them all down. I will build an ISO shortly and update this post as to the results. Thanks, John. EDIT: I built an ISO with your altered tweaks ini and with my two large tweaks (IE8 settings, about 2500 lines total) added and installed it on my VM. All seems to work well. Thanks much for your help! Enjoy, John
