  1. No, I haven't tried other CPU monitoring software, but I think I'll try. I think System Monitor may be having issues like you said, because my system is pretty darned fast! Except for emptying the recycle bin. It's not because of poor maintainance, because I'm 100% on top of that. And it's even slow when deleting one small file! The empty recycle bin has been slow even after a clean install! Before I got the new hard drive, I had a 3 GB hard drive with bad sectors on it. I then got a brand new 40 GB HD and noticed the change then. Windows only sees about 38 GB of the HD, but I think that's pretty normal. By the way, I've noticed a *new* problem with the recycle bin in relation to a clean install...After I format C:\ I then proceed to start computer with CD ROM support and then it's on to re-installing Windows. It takes about 25-30 minutes and after all is said and done, I try to delete one file, but the recycle bin is an invalid format. So, I try again, and I get the same message. I also get the option to empty the recycle bin, which I do. But the icon still shows it's full, but it's not. All I have to do is delete another file and everything is fine. I don't know where that came from, but it's easily fixed anyway.
  2. Okay, but why when using System Monitor does it indicate CPU usage at 100%? And what about the slow recycle bin emptying? HD related?
  3. So, my CPU usage of 100% is a good thing?
  4. It's a process called "Idle" which is hogging over 99% of the CPU's usage. Program = Idle %CPU = 99.66 CPU Time = 44:02 Threads = 8 Type = 32-bit 4.1 Path = Idle Has this got something to do with my display adaptor?
  5. I decided to watch my computer's CPU usage via the Windows System Monitor tool. It showed the CPU usage at 100% and never went down! I think that's bad, no? Also, when I empty the recycle bin, it takes about 5 seconds to empty. The computer doesn't freeze, it just takes 5 seconds for the recycle bin to empty and show an empty recycle bin icon. I remember a time when it was INSTANT! It's been this way for years now. I'm using Windows 98 SE. I've got an IBM 300PL with a CPU clock speed of 355 MHz. RAM is 192 MB. Hard drive is Samsung 7200 RPM 40 GB. Video card is S3 Trio (I think that's on board IBM video). Sound card is external Soundblaster PCI. And I had pizza for lunch. But WHY the 100% CPU usage??? Even IDLE (Running VERY minimal background programs and NO foreground programs - except System Monitor, of course!). If I remember correctly, the slow recycle bin emptying started with the new hard drive. CPU usage related? Or maybe I'm off my rocker here and should just stick to eating pizza!
  6. Does Windows Vista still have an option to look like the older versions of Windows (Windows 95, 98, ME, 2000)? And speaking of older versions of Windows and Windows Vista...Any Vista users care to compare Windows 98 with Windows Vista? There's an unofficial service pack for Windows 98 SE called Windows Revolutions Pack, which transforms the original Windows 98 look to a very modern look. Comparable to XP and even Vista! Has anyone here (Vista users, I mean) heard of Revolutions Pack and can you give insight as to how it compares (visually and functionality wise) to Windows Vista? I'm just curious, that's all. Thanks!
  7. Yeah, I think CPU being the biggest part of poor flash quality. I have high speed internet, but a slow processor and I find that I often have to set the flash player quality to LOW to get it to sync up a bit better with the sound and to get the jerkiness to stop being such a jerk!
  8. By the way, Xstyle...I love the Aero Classic theme! It's so ... I'm out of words it aso good! It even makes me misspell words it's that good! My only dislike of it, is the faded unhovered start button. I just thought that it looked ugly, so I edited the bitmap for the start buttons and made the unhovered start button darker. Now it rocks even MORE!!!
  9. What happened when you uninstalled RP? What's the webview headache you are referring to?
  10. I was wondering if that might be the case. At any rate, I have found a small registry tweak which will not load Windows without a username or password. Actually it partially loads Windows, and then goes back to the logon screen. That's as good as it gets, I guess.
  11. Thanks! Got the bitmap changed, but now I'm wondering if I can remove the "x" in the title bar? I got rid of the "Cancel" button. I'm trying to make it so that the logon dialogue box cannot be bypassed without signing in.
  12. I want to change the bitmap in a file, but I don't know what file it would be. Can I use ResHack to change the bitmap? And where do I find the file (It's not MPRSERV.DLL from what I could tell) Image of what I want to change is below.
  13. Your webviews work fine for me. Although, it's like I said earlier...it looks like you used the WINDOWS folder FOLDER.HTT file and placed it in the WINDOWS\WEB folder. It still works, but you just have to click "Show Files" for some folders. But once you have shown the files for a particular folder, you don't have to do it again. I don't know how you would go about modifying the original WEB folder as it comes with RP7. And you can't use the original WIN98 WEB folder files. UNLESS....you restore the original WEBVW.DLL to C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM and then go to Start Menu > Run and type regsvr32 webvw.dll. But then, we might lose the ability to preview media files again. But you da man, so I'm sure you'll figure it out!
  14. Those are some nice webviews! I was thinking of something a bit more subtle and simple. See image below... Simply go to C:\WINDOWS and save the WEB folder to C:\ then delete the WEB folder in C:\WINDOWS and replace with this new one. Keep in mind that CONTROLP.HTT has been edited and as a result, when you go to the Control Panel, you get a warning message saying that the scripts have been modified. It asks if you want to run scripts on this page. It's safe to select YES. I'll make up some other web styles later. Minor changes made to webview... width changed from 30% to 24% to give a slimmer look, while still having room for info and previews Media player width and height changed Folder Font is Arial Rounded MT Bold. If you do not have this font installed, the default font will be used. RP7_11_FolderXP_Grey.zip
  15. Awesome work! I'm still at work, but now I know that I'll be downloading the new files from your first post (when I get home later tonight)! I'll test extensively also when I get home. If I find problems, I'll try and fix or report them. Did you also leave out the "!" in FOLDER.HTT in line 487 (?) character 17? Remember that bug I talked about once before a few days ago...happened when you open a media file in WMP main window. I'd also like to create a few different web styles and post them with screenshots. Just for people who want something completely different looking, but same functionality. Including an XP style webview pane. I may not get it done for a few days. Thanks for starting this thread, Passingby!
  16. Looks good! I haven't had a chance to look at it yet, but what lines did you have to edit in FOLDER.HTT? (I'm assuming that's the file you edited) When I tried to fiddle with the file, all I got was a player that wouldn't play either music or video files. Did the media files play nice for you...both MP3 and AVI, WMV, ect...? Also, what are .flv files and what's flowplayer? I assume that I need not use the FLV webview if I have no FLV files? I'll play around with it, too. How about jpeg and bmp thumbnails? Were they affected? Did they still show up in webview? Again, I'm not at home now, so maybe I'll just answer my own questions later. You've done some real good work! I could never have done it!
  17. RP7 or not, the method should be the same. While you have a folder open, select the "Views" tab from the toolbar and select "View as a web page". You can also access this option through Folder Options. With RP installed, Go to Start Menu > Settings > Control Panel. Make sure all common Control Panel options are shown. There, you will see Folder Options. Classic view is with no webview, I believe. The other option (can't remember what it is, but there's only two for RP7) is the web view. Maybe you already got an answer for this, but I thought I'd post anyway.
  18. If you are reading this, you no doubt know what the apology is for. If you don't know what it's for, perhaps you're better off. Yes, I was out of line when I spiraled my rants out of control about the RP project. I have since replaced the rants with either funny posts or changed them to remove the rant. I am vastly outnumbered here and I can see when I've crossed the line. I crossed that line a while ago already. While I won't be supporting the RP project, I won't bash it either. Tihiy has done some great work improving the Windows 98 SE experience for many. I guess I lost control when I recently reformatted my HD (not RP related) and then installed RP the next day (I backed up with the RP installer). I didn not like what it did, so I simply uninstalled it. However, some of my settings were not reverted back. I tried to get a webview of the Windows and System folders, but it did not work. For some reason, when RP uninstalled, it must have left some registry seetings behind that I could not find. The option to view those folders as a web page was there, but it did nothing. I (not knowing if it was a registry line or a modified file left behind) reformatted my HD AGAIN only two days after I had just done it. I did it during the night, when my family was asleep, so I would not lose out on time with them during the day. However, it resulted in me getting an hour of sleep from the time I did the format of drive C:\ (1:00am) to the time I finished installing everything new again (5:00am). My family woke up at 6am and I was cranky. Unfortunately, I took it out on Tihiy and his project. I am sorry to him and to others offended. Now, I have caught up on my sleep over the weekend, and last night was the first weeknight I slept good in a while. But lack of sleep is still no excuse. I deserve all your rebuttals, as harsh as some of them were (someone was hoping I would go and I said that I had less talent that Tihiy's little finger). What I did was wrong, and I knew that even at the time, but I was not wise enough to stop. Tihiy obviously possesses a talent I cannot touch. Therefore, the only wise thing I can do is apologize. So to protect the future feelings of others, and to protect myself, too...I will leave. I do so out of wisdom. I should have stopped a long time ago. I am foolish to have let myself get so far away from myself and become something even I hate...an "ess" "atche" "eye" "tea" disturber! Thanks to all those who helped me with my problems, and sorry to those who I offended. Now, I can't find a link to delete my account, so if an administrator is kind enough to do so, I would appreciate it. One last thing...I am, by nature, sarcastic and sometimes rude. But I always try to be humorous. Sometimes I take it too far. Anyway, I have a website. Please check it out here. Enjoy!
  19. Eating food makes me feel full.
  20. Still hungry, but now I'm thirsty, too!
  21. Everyone has no doubt heard that a dog year is seven human years. By the time you have owned your little pup for 3 years, he will have aged 21 years! Obviously the same can be said for computers. But the ratio is much higher! Windows 98 was "born" August of 1998. Nine years later, it's still kicking, but is (by Microsoft) deemed dead. No more updates, any new software being developped beyond this year is written for Windows 2000 or higher. That means that Windows 98 had a good long life of about 82 digital years! RIP Windows 98! We will always remember you! Looking back at the 90's, where were you in life? I graduated from high school the year Windows 3.1 was released (1992). (The Windows registry was also introduced with Windows 3.1...oh that blasted registry! Now Microsoft wants to get rid of it! Can you blame them?) Windows 95 came out the same year I got married...I was married in 1996. Just kidding! I was married in May of 1995, just three months before Windows 95 came out. In 1998, when Window 98 came out, I was still alive. Nothing exciting in my life at that point. But some really good movies came out that year. There was Enemy of the State with Will Smith and Gene Hackman. Armageddon with Bruce Willis was also a not bad film at the time. And how could we forget Disney/Pixar's A Bug's Life. Great animation even today! The next versions of Windows (that I know of) weren't until 2000 with ME and 2000. I know there was a CE in there somewhere, but I don't think it ever flew very far! So, when you think about it, Windows 9x are really not that old!
  22. Anyone? I'm still waiting for a reply to this topic. I had some bad things happen to my webview (be it minor as it is) and am wondering if RP8 is going to fix this.
  23. What's this going to be about? What changes are going to be made from RP7? I just read recently that RP8 is coming out soon. Just wondering if it's going to be much different from RP7. Also, will it simply install over RP7?
  24. I find Internet Explorer like any other tool. It's good if you know how to use/configure it. Most people don't play with the settings in IE. It's like that Facebook website. So many people leave themselves wide open for identity theft by not properly configuring their account. IE can be a great tool when used properly.
