  1. I run windows2000, sp4, with all patches. I have an ASUS tuv4x motherboard with latest bios, the chipset is a via apollopro 133T and I have also installed the latest 4 in 1 drivers for it. My hard drives are Seagate Barracuda's, and I have brand new 80 pin cables. I cannot get udma 100, it is set this way in bios... it always goes to udma 66. The harddrives are also enabled to use udma100. I have searched the net with no success, this was supposed be fixed way back with sp2... on my other computer with 440BX chipset it works fine... anyone can help with this? (P.S. the registry hack to add UDMA100 does not work)
  2. You'll have to consult intel tech manuals on the differences between the steppings, I am not that techie All I know is proc with TB-1 stepping will not work with standard bios. You have to add microcode to support that. I friend of mine has done this to his bios, and gave it to me in case I ever run across one of those boards. They are quite rare.
  3. I use nero6 for many years, and they usually create an installer which works by replacing the unneeded components with 0 byte files. However this is not the case with the Weather Channel Installer, so I created a dummy.exe to replace it. Here it is , and the source code in Assembler. (Compilable with WinASM studio and the MASM package.) dummyexe.exe dummyexe.rar replace the Weather Channel Installer.exe with dummyexe.exe and rename it to Weather Channel Installer. Setupx will no longer give an error about the file being invalid.
  4. Yep, it decreased boot time for me a lot. It also fixed some other issue's , like the CPU test from 3dmark(s) now function. Quite odd, but I can live with that.
  5. C/C++, Assembler (x86, 6502, Z80), BATCH/CMD script.
  6. Sounds like the onset of HD failure to me, run chkdsk on it, and also give the drive a checkup with the software from the manufacturer of the drive. If it's a SMART drive, there are apps to display the information aswell.
  7. Motherboards usually have a beep code when there is a problem with the video card too.
  8. The AGP speed only affects how fast the textures and other data are initially loaded into the card, once the data is in the card's ram, there is little or no difference. also, the Abit VH6-T board of yours is known to have "bad capacitor" syndrome, you might want to check your capacitors and make sure none of them are bulged or leaking. I also have a bios for that board which supports the SL6BY 1.4ghz tualatin (TB-1 stepping). Let me know if you want it.
  9. Say I want to put in ntdetect.com and ntldr from winXP into windows2000, where would I put the files? Could I just make a .cab of them and put them in HFCABS?
  10. Bull! I use Nero 6.6.1.15c on windows2000 no problem, and have been using nero6 for years and years.
  11. Thanks for the ntdetect and ntldr trick, this works very nice.
  12. windows2000 imo, the boot time is a bit longer becuase it checks file integrity at startup. As for running faster, I disagree, they run about the same. windows2000 is also a lot more secure than windows XP, but it doesn't have all the fancy schmancy gui stuff that XP does. IMO it's just for looks and nothing else. Both operating systems are based on Windows NT, as is windows2003 server and Vista. It all depends on what your going to be using the system for.
  13. This is for Office 2003 only. I've been tinkering around with slipstreaming the updates into administrative installs. I wanted to mention to you, that some of the hotfixes for office2003, also patch some of the OTHER components (visio, onenote etc) if they are present on the system being patched. This tends to include the ones with multiple msi's in them, and also ones which in the knowledge base only say RCE Exploit. If they do not mention a SPECIFIC component of Office2003 in the KB article, then it is likely that they can patch more than one component of the installation. :EDIT: Ok, I have compiled the list of hotfixes for each component as far as I know. Office 2003 KB887616 KB912440 KB907417 KB894542 KB924085 KB924424 KB920813 KB933666 KB934180 KB934181 KB914455 KB933669 KB925521 KB920103 KB919029 KB923097 KB936507 KB936643 KB940602 KB936048 Visio 2003 (Use Long Names!) KB887622 KB920813 KB919029 KB934180 KB936048 KB931281 OneNote 2003 KB887619 KB920813 KB917148 KB919029 KB934180 KB936048 KB914455 KB912440 FrontPage 2003 KB887616 KB920813 KB925521 KB919029 KB934180 KB936048 KB914455 KB912440 Project 2003 KB887620 KB920813 KB919029 KB934180 KB936048 KB914455 and my registry entries attached. office.reg Also note. The service packs should be slipstreamed first, then the other updates. Cheers
  14. You know, WinRAR doesn't always extract cab files properly. if DirectX setup gives no error, the files should be fine.
  15. start /wait sav.msi /qb RUNLIVEUPDATE=0 REBOOT=REALLYSUPPRESS
  16. :edit: Little update to this, I made small mistake, and have corrected it now :edit: I've managed to make a silent install for Acronis Disk Director Suite v10. Here is how. (just a basic guide). Execute the ADD setup.exe , and wait for the first screen to show. Migrate to %userprofile%\local settings\temp You will find the installer package in here in a randomly named directory. (sort the view of the directory by date to find it easyer.) Copy all the files to a new folder of your choice. Create a batch file and enter into it. @ECHO OFF ECHO Installing Acronis Disk Director Suite... start /wait /i setup.msi /qn REBOOT=REALLYSUPPRESS %windir%\regedit.exe /S tweak.reg Then export your registration key from an already installed copy into a registry file called tweak.reg like so REGEDIT4 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Acronis\Acronis Disk Director\Settings] "key"="" where your registration key is between the 2nd set of quotes. You can now create a self extracting archive with winrar or 7zip. I have tested this extensively and it works fine. Cheers.
  17. One thing to note, you should also download the EntSetup file from the m$ site too, and replace the setup.exe with it. I noticed this is not mentioned in the tutorial. According to M$ this setup file is needed to properly use the mst file in an administrative install package.
  18. I downloaded it, mine is not corrupted. I suggest checking your hard drive.
  19. I just did a fresh install yesterday into vmware, with directx9c integrated. C:\WINNT\system32\drivers\ks.sys > version 5.3.0.900
  20. The Root Certificate Security update for july is not for window2000, simply open autoruns and view any windows component or driver and they will all appear as unverified/unsigned. The proper one for windows2000 is still the september 2006 one. (and it will show up in windows update also). cheers.
  21. Ahh oki, I will keep the redistributable in my $OEM$ then, as of now it's not really possible to make it silent because it still prompts for stuff sometimes... most annoying. I hope you add support for this. Thanks for the info on the HFANSWER mod, this will make my testing go a bit smoother.
  22. Cool thanks man. Your a real encyclopedia of knowledge yeah js57nen.exe is renamed scripten.exe should I not rename it? umm, visual C++ runtimes are windows components? usually some mfc dll, like mfc71.dll and mfc71u.dll cheers again. Yeah I know the >output.txt , but wouldn't that not let me type in the I READ THE .... part. or will it detect this and run anyways? I can see when it's done by using procmon or task manager and wait for cmd.exe to be unloaded.
  23. Hi Tomcat76, here is my log, can you help me figure out what I am doing wrong or what is outdated. HFSLIP.zip I have problem with Q831167 , gives error KB926121 (outdated?) KB870669 (outdated?) also jscript5.7, but I know this is broken already. also wondering if you can add support for visual C++ 2005 redistributable. also wondering if you can make it so the entire process can be logged to a .txt file (the command window), or is there a command line option to allow me to do that.
  24. Yeah, that's what I wanted to know how to do to. Make the .mst for Adobe Acrobat 8.1 update , and slip stream that with Acrobat 8.0.
