  1. NIS does not seem to use more resources than ZAP. I am not for sure what you mean by port scan Chris..
  2. I have been using ZoneAlarm 2.6 for about a year now. When I upgraded my mother board I got a 90 day trail of Norton's Internet Security 2002. I like it better than ZAP thus far. Easy to use and set up .....
  3. Try the QDI forum....
  4. :user Happy B-day there Xperties....... I hope you get what you deserve or want, which ever is more enjoyable for you.........
  5. There are no computers out there. What would I do? Where would I input? w00t :user
  6. Looks like the 40 to 50 year olds have it at this point. Almost 37%.. I am 49 soon to be 50 on the first day of March upcoming...
  7. I would make it the Secondary Master drive. Here (PC Guide) is some more information on how and why to set up your IDE channels for best perfromance........
  8. I do not own a fluid HDD but I have read that they should be quieter than ball. I was going to get a fluid drive but they were out of stock at my supplier when I need a drive so I went with ball.....
  9. Well Conan and MSNwar those are very good points. Yes Conan they are attached to a Promise FastTrack 2000 RAID card that works with ATA 133. However when I first got the drives I had a need to format one via the IDE bus and the system (mother board at the time was a ASUS P4T) would not see the drive. Settings in the BIOS were set to "Auto Detect" and the HDD was the master on IDE 0. I tried to and did boot from a set of Windows 98 floppy disk. When the boot program set it's self up it did not find the HDD... I have not tried a single ATA 133 on an IDE from the Intel mother board as of yet. If memory servers me correctly the BIOS did see the HDD, I think.
  10. This is interesting because I have 4 Maxtor ATA133 HDDs and if I put them in an ATA100 system the 133 drive is not seen. System reports no hard drives found. I have to run them through a 133 card..... I thought it would work like you all are saying but I found it not to be true. I wonder if some HDDs will no work backward?
  11. Look for your Mother board specs on the manufactures site. Find out what BIOS version you have and look at the specs for it. This will tell you what IDE ATA your system will support...

Here is a tutorial you may want to look at...... How To Build a PC
  13. Thanks for the information Elite.......
  14. Hey elite, what is LOD? The graphics suck in my screen shot because I saved it as a .jpg... I did no tweaking on mine, it is as it came out of the box. If there are tweaks on it or defaults that I can test it under please let me know what they are..... This helps me to learn as I am new to the fine art of graphics and video cards......
  15. Hey Lezend we are really close. Check it out on compare. What brand of Ti 4600 do you have? Mine is PNY......
  16. MSNwar I did not do an on-line compare. Those are the reports for the on system test. What are the advantages of the on-line compare? Is this just one way that 3D Mark can hassle you to buy there product? OK, OK......... Tinker's Score
  17. I decided that I wanted better image quality while I am viewing net pages. I made a purchase of a PNY Geforce 4 Ti 4600 to make this happen. I have a PNY Geforce 4 MX 420 that I was using and things seem to be a little grainy for me to look at. After receiving the new video card and installing it I ran the 3D Mark Benchmark and found much to my surprise that the new card which I was thinking I should get a score of 10,000 or more only came up to 8,100 +. Now this was almost twice the speed of the lessor MX 420 card but things still did not set just right. After tweaking and playing around, chatting with some of you on messenger and testing I decided that DirectX maybe the problem. Now I have done quite a bit of changing around in the past couple of months on hardware. I think that during all the changing around I some how in loading drivers and the like I may have accidentally loaded a lessor version of DirectX. I found DirectX 8.1b and down loaded it. Now this is almost a 25 meg download, dial up users should be ready for a long wait if they need this software. I installed 8.1b and now things are looking good both on the screen and the benchmark.
  18. Quote: Yea i fixed it myself..... No thankx to any of you socalled Computer experts! -------------------------- You know of course now you are one........ w00t
  19. This post is kind of old, did you get it going?
  20. Many things to look at here. In the comparison of the Thunderbird 1.4 and the P4 2.4 we need to know what the mother board is on the T-bird, memory, video card, etc. As well the same info on the P4. Now what O.S. on each? If you have any bench marks on the old system that you can use to compare to the new one. FthrJACK is correct in his statement as well. You will not see any real difference in day to day operation until you have had chance to do some tweaking on the O.S. and your new system setup. It does take a few weeks to get everything tuned in unless you have everything setup in advance for the transfer.........
  21. I hope I can say this correctly. When you disable something the system no longer uses it. Now this does not mean it is not going to recognize it. By in large the only way to get XP not to see it is by removing it from you system. This would be hard to do since it is soldered on the MB. I think I would concentrate on getting the on board LAN to work if you need a LAN connection, if not I would just not worry about it.....
  22. Print Shop Pro 7........... You can find it for under $100..
  23. I just upgraded my Mother Board and CPU. I went Intel on both. So far I am very happy. That is until I saw the prices that have been posted here. I could have save $20 or so............ My video card is low end, hence the low score. PNY GF4 MX420............. Also no over clocking with this MB........
  24. "Get in or get out, it is your choice. Makes no difference to me".............. "Put your 20 questions away, this is not a game"..... "I was breathing before you got here and I will be breathing when you leave"...... "Yes I will die alone, however I was born alone and I made it through that O.K."....... "I think with the head on my sholders"...... "Here is a $100, take it and leave it is all you wanted anyway"....... "Loneliness is not having to apologize for something I did not do"......... These were suppose to be pick up lines. Ops, sorry here is my pick up line.... I will not give you $500, $200 is the best I will do..... It works too...............
  25. I just tested my system which has 2 NICs. One is on the Mother Board and the other is in an PCI slot. I plugged both into a Linksys cable\router which is hooked to my cable modem. On reboot the DHCP assigned each card an address from the local network. With both NICs active I unplugged the NIC that was in use by the system. The system responded by looking for another path and found the second NIC reconnected and went on about it's work. When the first NIC was reconnected the system disconnected from the back up NIC and went back to the primary NIC. Now there is only one IP from the ISP, however the weak link here is the router or the cable modem and of course the ISP. I am also using PCI bus mastering which may also have some bearing on the operation as described above. At any rate here is an idea for NIC failure and a backup to it. The router is a 4 port and you can pick one up around here (Indiana U.S.A.) for about $50 and the PCI NIC that works with bus mastering for about $20.. I have a cable line and it has toped out at 2 Mbps to date. This set up should be good for 10 Mbps as most modems are only good for 10 Mbps at this time. If you have a connection that is greater than T2 this will not work for you with the equipment listed.
