  1. That's odd. There is no WINNT directory in XP (usually), that's the WINDOWS directory on Windows 2000. Strange. When you manage to boot, open cmd.exe and type echo %windir% and tell us what it says.
  2. 'K, thanks. I'll try that. I'm new to this whole scripting thing, so it'll take me a while to get used to it all.
  3. What the crapple image or the comic? The comic ain't mine, it's from Ctrl+Alt+Del. As for the crapple image, sure, go right ahead. (You might want to host it from your own site, not link it, since I may delete it at some point to free up space for more attachments. )
  4. You're not the supervisor any more?? Who is then? Is there any way for a regular user to post news? By the way... I wasn't here for last holiday season, so maybe it's something you always do, but what's up with the changed logo? It's like google!
  5. When using registry tools in VBscript, I've figured out how to read an existing value, write a value or delete a value, but I run in to a few problems when they value does not exist or the user does not have read (or write) permission for that key. For example, if I want a script to see if HKCU\Software\Test DWORD value ThisIsATest (just a random entry) is set to 1 or 0, that's fine, I would do this: Set WshShell = CreateObject( "WScript.Shell" ) WshShell.RegRead( "HKCU\Software\Testing\Test" ) But, if that key doesn't exist, then I get an error. Alternatively, say I go to delete that value. Set WshShell = CreateObject( "WScript.Shell" ) WshShell.RegDelete( "HKCU\Software\Testing\Test" ) Which works fine, but if the value's not there, then I get an error. Finally, let's say the user that the script is running as doesn't have permission to view that key. Then, no matter what I try to do, it gives an error. So, what I'm wondering is if there's some way for the script to detect if the value even exists or not, and if the user has permission to view that key. If anyone has any sort of experience with this, I'd appreciate some help very much.
  6. They are. Its alpha now. http://windows.kde.org/ The KDE-Windows Port We are currently trying to port the KDE-applications to MS Windows. Currently we support only Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows 2003. Vista support is underway. The preferred way of installing KDE apps under windows is the KDE-Installer you can download from here. SWEET!!! :thumbup
  7. I wish they'd release KDE for windows.
  8. Sounds like an ambitious project! Welcome to MSFN... and good luck! I'll be glad to do some testing for you once you get some actual code written. It sounds very interesting. You may be interested in talking to nuhi - he probably has a lot of information that would be useful to you and would probably have some suggestions. EDIT: I noticed your double-post in the introductions thread. I would've posted there if I had noticed it before I saw this one. Generally, double-posting isn't really necessary, and in fact, is discouraged. So, if there's a mod out there who'd be kind enough to move my post to the other one (in introductions) and remove this one, I'd appreciate it. Thanks. Someone did that... thanks, whoever.
  9. If we were to print this whole thread out, you'd have to be pretty DEFT to HEFT the whole stack of papers with only your LEFT hand, because that would be a lot to LIFT.
  10. I for one don't think this game is DAFT BAFT TAFT WAFT WALT (a name) SALT
  11. OK, that's fine. I just used that image 'cause it was the first I came to.
  12. I've had that happen with Royale black, too. I think it has something to do with the theme not being registered or something. What version of XP are you using? Does the theme show up in the appearance tab or do you only have luna and classic?
  13. Well, truth to be told, if I had enough money for one I probably wouldn't buy one either. But it does look pretty cool. I guess I would be worried about replacing/upgrading, since it's such a non-conventional design. PuntoMX, why does it say you edited my post for spam? What spam?
  14. Definitely go for the dual-core. Dual-core is going to be faster and better at multi-tasking. As for the graphics... I have Intel GMA on my laptop and it works fine for what I do. However, I don't use it for gaming or CAD, and I don't use vista, although it does fine with 3rd party eye candy for XP. The x3100 is actually pretty sweet for integrated graphics. It supports DX10 and 384 Mb of graphics memory. It might be worth looking in to.
  15. Or, just use MCE.
  16. So how's it coming along?
  17. On the steadystate site it says it's only available for XP Home and Pro. Is there any way to make it work on Media Center Edition or not?
  18. Crapples, err I mean Apples, have (or at least used to have back when I still was forced to use them) that same setup. There would be some tabs at the top of the keyboard that you would pull and the keyboard would pop off.
  19. Why use any version of IE? Use opera or firefox - they're free, fast, way more secure than any version of IE, opera is essentially 100% W3C compliant, firefox is pretty close. And, they have intuitive interfaces! Oh... and did you have an actual question or just a comment? Comments are fine, I was just wondering if there's something you need to know.
  20. You like which one better? You don't make that clear. I personally like dells better than gateways over all. Just my bias.
  21. A few moments ago I saw Dell's new XPS one advertised on their site. It had been "leaked" before, but unless I'm clueless, this is the first it's been for sale. I must say, it looks sweeeeeeet. I wish I had enough money for one. It's basically a whole computer (and a pretty powerful one at that) all in one slim, pretty case, monitor built in. AWESOME! For a dell, it's not very customizable when you buy, but hey, the defaults aren't bad, and it looks amazing.
  22. Maybe you need to have a face-to-face talk with him.
  23. What I'm saying is that it might not know what to do if things are messed up. So yeah, it might work, or it might not.
  24. Don't think it's meant for unattended...
