  1. I'm assuming that no one has manage to make a unattended install of Vista?

I have certainly unattended Vista, however its no where I'd like it to be in comparison to where I have XP.

Guess it will be some time yet. But in saying that making up ground all the time & you'll find the Waik.chm files very helpful through most.

I guess I'll stay with Windows XP Professional for now. It's lighter and runs better on both my desktop and laptop.

  2. HFGUIRUNONCE supports .REG files. They are executed after the Welcome screen, but before the desktop, Themes, etc. are set up. If the .REG file needs to be executed AFTER that, you're out of luck. Remember that if you import registry settings through HFGUIRUNONCE that require a reboot, you'll have to reboot before they take effect.

It just occured to me that I forgot to document the HFGUIRUNONCE folder on the HFSLIP site once it became final... Will be fixed, hehe... :)

So I just drop my registry tweak file into HFGUIRUNONCE then and also have a registry file in HFSVCPACK?

Will you consider adding a feature of automatically integrating a reboot?

  3. Ignore the above error, I found the problem, I used the long file path on to point to my software.

The version Beta 2 don't have a warning message for it?

In the older versions, I used an older compiler that didn't support long file names. Now I switched to a different compiler and I was planning to correct this, therefore the warning message was removed. Obviously I forgotten about this. I'll try to fix this in upcoming releases. But the next release won't be out in for at least a while. I would say this BETA 2 is quite stable and not much problems encountered so far...so no rush on the next release. Plus, too much to do at work and too many games to play at home... :blushing:

Anyways, thanks for letting me know...

I haven't tried your program yet, but does it integrate the intel RAID drivers, specifically the one with iastor.sys?

Also does your program require any hacking methods to integrate the driver? Or it's all standard compliant?

  4. HFSLIP creates iso for cds, but doesn't burn them.
HFSLIP can burn the ISO since version 1.2.0.

    @Sgt_Strider

To extract the boot image from a Windows CD, HFSLIP looks for a drive that has the I386 folder in its root. The last one encountered is used.

It doesn't really matter which version of Windows is in the I386 folder; the extracted boot images are identical (and if not identical, they are at least interchangeable -- I'm using the same boot.bin for every version of Windows).

I didn't mean it like that. Tools like Alcohol 120% allows me to create virtual drives. How can I point HFSLIP to the correct drive with Windows or it automatically detects that?

  5. Hello everyone

I´m new to this forum and to the "unattended windows" installation world & desperately need to know how to install Windows XP from an external drive.

    Allow me to give details

Not too long ago, I got myself a copy of Windows XP Black Edition USA retail edition, used it & think its the best thing since sliced bread. Its basically an unattended XP install LOADED with programs - a 4.4Gig dvd.

I also own an 20Gig (FAT32) MP3 player that plugs in via USB & is recognized immediately as an external HDD. Now considering that I´m never about to put 20 Gigs of MP3s on the player, what I want to do is make the player bootable with the black edition image, so that I can install XP from the disk & not have to bother with the DVD anymore

I realise there are many many MANY threads with similar questions & all the replies seem to mention like 5 OTHER reference threads. I´ve been "trying" to keep a level head & go through these, but I only end up with 10 windows open, with no clue where I started & realise I´m reading about how to boot a preinstalled version of windows from a flash drive; this is NOT what I want & I dont know why the references made by people who ask something similar to what I did get sent to that....

I finally saw a message saying that there isnt a guide out there because there isnt a one size fits all solution. My question is - can anyone let me know how I may go about burning an Unattended Windows XP black edition bootable DVD image to a USB external drive so that I boot from the drive & the installation process begins just like it does with the DVD (& yes my BIOS supports boot via external device...)

I would be indebted to you if someone can help me with details in this thread itself or a pre-existing thread that gives me the solution & not 20 other links. I´ve been going dizzy trying to get to the bottom of this.....

    Thanks in advance

LOL, there is no such thing as a Windows XP Black Edition retail edition. Nice try with the words there, but we're not stupid.

  6. im trying to delete the unused applications such as one note and i get an error message if i do. any way to delete extra application folders without getting an error message during start up of install?
there isnt an existing solution i'm aware of, that allows to reduce size of installation source.
@prathapml, Is there any possibility to customize the components using the option B (Config.xml) as you have suggested is the best method?
Yes, please refer to the attached/quoted xml in post #2, which illustrates how to select or de-select components for install.
Hi guys, I'm just wondering if this method works if I don't have the physical Office 2007 media?
It still works. When you click the .EXE & it finishes extracting, just go to your %temp% folder & grab the files.
So, um, where can we get Windows Installer 3.1...
    google..... ;) (LINK)
    I'm Alex from Spain.

So what can I do to deploy Office 2007 without user interferance?

Hmm, not very sure, but you could try a combination of both these:

    a. Put MSP in Updates folder (which you already did)

    b. And edit config.xml, to show DisplayLevel=none.

So do I follow method A or B?

  7. I have been deploying Vista through my server for a while now and it works great. The tools that Microsoft provided with their OPK cd are enough and no extra nlites or vlites are necessary to configure proper setups this time. Since applying parameters to the autouannatend.xml it's made easy using the imaging system. And the catalog files used for that purpose handle over 7000+ controls applied to the setup and configuration which only 10 - 20 are really used for basic.

I don’t have time to write a guide but I would be happy to provide answers to specific questions on deploying Vista through WDS.

What kind of documentations are you using?

  8. It appears you must have additional languages installed as part of Windows XP. I have Asian languages installed and I see two. One is for English and one for Asian. Therefore, you can set the default for each separately.

If you don't have additional languages installed, you won't see two.

Yes, I have the Chinese language font pack installed. Can I select a specific font though? What does +Body Asian mean though?

  9. I don't get what these fields mean and I'm hoping someone can clarify it for me. Under Latin text, there are two font drop boxes: Asian text font and font. What are the differences between the two? The default is +Body Asian and + Body. If I want to set the default font to Arial, do I select Arial for both drop boxes? If so, then what does the Asian text label mean?

  10. So I was using some tweaks in my registry file to turn off some unneeded services. Little did I know that they would turn off the automatic wifi network search. I still haven't figured out all the services that turns off this behaviour, but I found one right now and that is wireless zero configuration. What are the other services that affects this behaviour? Thanks!

  11. Hi guys, I'm just wondering if this method works if I don't have the physical Office 2007 media? Microsoft provided me with a CD-key via e-mail and a link to the Office 2007 Professional program. It's a self-extracting .exe file similar to the trial version of Microsoft Office 2007 Small Business Edition. Can I still pack this up and make an unattended install of Office 2007?

Do you get folders or an ISO-file when you run the .exe, or does it start the installation immediately?

It starts installing after the content finish extracting.

  12. To be honest I just looked at a few of the drivers, and I agree with iTwins that too many of them don't conform to the standards, I see inf files that SHOULDN"T install, but do so just fine, some that rely on their own installer applications triggered by the installation and have no way to integrate them normally... At this point I'm thinking just use Bashrat's MassStorage driverpack (after hfslip completes) and then it should go through just fine. That'll cover you on, it looks like, 85+ different MS Drivers, which covers a wider number of actual devices, well over 100, so I think that's probably sufficient. Plus his method looks to be VERY easy, and does all the runonce stuff added in to get the extras on after t-13. It seems to do textmode integration as well as in-system integration (for me, not having to install any of my drivers after system setup sounds splendid).

I'm going to look more into it but to be honest, if you know your driver works use this method, if not it seems that making use of BTS' Driver Packs would make life easier. I'm going to try it out on my next build.

Did Bashrat finish his masstorage driverpack yet? I don't need all of his drivers that's usually present in his pack though. I just want a easy way to install the SATA drivers w/o bloating my ISO file. Also, are you trying to say that HFSLIP is planning to add Driverpack support? I'm not sure if I understand there.

  13. There are a couple of things you will want to check.

What happens when you select the Royal theme after Windows is installed? Do you get an error message of any kind? If so, there there is something out of place that it needs (i.e. cursor files, or icons, etc.). If you don't get an error, but it looks wrong in the little preview screen, then you dealing with an "unsigned" visual style and your UXTheme.dll isn't patched. The Royal theme is from Microsoft and does not need the DLL to be patched, so if this is your case then you have a modified theme.

I got the official Royale theme from Microsoft that was originally designed for the Tablet edition of Windows XP. I don't get any error mesages or anything; just the classic theme is shown upon bootup. Do I need that patched UXTheme.dll? I'm not quite sure if I understand you properly.

I would first check to make sure that you have the correct folder structure. It sounds simple, but it's worth checking. Does your themes folder have the "royal.theme" file in its root, and then a folder called "Royal" in it? Inside that Royal folder you should have a file called "Royal.msstyles" and another folder called "Shell". Inside Shell will be a folder called "NormalColor" and inside that a file called "ShellStyle.dll"

Yes, the royale.theme file is present in the root folder. There is no folder named Royale in it. I don't see a shell folder or normalcolor colder or that dll file that you mentioned.

Now, if you get an error when you try to manually select the theme, then something is out of place or missing. If you got the theme in its original form than you shouldn't have a problem, but if the .theme file has been modified it could be trying to find icons, cursors or other files that either don't exist or are in different locations. The theme file is just a simple text file, so you can easily look at it if you want. You can open Explorer and browse to the Royal folder and doubleclick the Royal.msstyles file. This will apply the visual style while bypassing the theme file, just in case is has been edited.

I'm not sure if I understand you here.

More than likely though your problem won't be that complicated. It is probably one of two things, first the folder structure isn't correct in the Themes folder, or second the themes service isn't started. Try selecting the theme manually, if it doesn't appear in the list, or you can select it but get an error that will tell you the problem is with the folder layout. If you get an error that the themes service isn't running, well that's clear enough.

I'm not getting any error. I was planning to follow the guide from MSFN, but I think that required me to install and or activate the theme first. I haven't done any of that as I went ahead to implement the theme.

  14. I have the original Microsoft Royale theme in an .exe file and I extract the content to a folder called Themes. I then place it in the following directory: $OEM$\$$\Resources\Themes.

In winnt.sif, I have this setting under [shell]: CustomDefaultThemeFile = "%WinDir%\Resources\Themes\royale.theme"

However, it doesn't work. After Windows finishing installing, the classic theme is shown. What am I doing wrong? Thanks!
