I'm just wondering if Vlite will create a answer file for you or I'll need to create one for myself? If I do, how do I go around to integrating the answer file into the image with Vlite?

Folks, I need your help!
I've used Windows XP Home since its introduction but recently I obtained a version of Windows XP Professional with SP2 integrated via my University and the MSDN 'Academic Alliance' as I'm an eligible candidate. To my point, I always thought that the MSDN CD's of the Operating Systems were pretty much like the Manufacturer Royalty OEM CD's, that they required no activation. Great, I thought, the migration to Professional would be painless as there seems to be the OEMBIOS files.
However, when I installed with my key, the system asked me to re-activate, what a killjoy, although I can't complain as it cost me nothing and Professional is better.
So, although the OEMBIOS files are present, it needs activating, is there anything I might be doing wrong? Such as using a different key hidden in a different file or something? This was the case with my royalty XP Home, when I first got into creating unattended CDs, I used the CD key on the back of the computer and found I needed to activate, however, looking into the CD files, I found the WINNT.sif file had the manufacturer key, which allowed the pre-activated state upon XP install. Although, the MSDN CD does not have a WINNT.sif file!
So, how do I create a CD from the MSDNAA CD that will install pre-activated? Or am I wrong in my assumptions that the MSDN CD's allow OEM-style pre-activation?
I only ask as I would like to move to XP Professional but have got used to not activating after a format and reinstall!
All comments and suggestions would be very much appreciated, thanks.
AFAIK, all MSDNAA version of XP Pro requires activation. My copy requires activation as well and there is no effective way to circumvent that.

It's been a long time since i thought about this, but for xp you have seperate MUI's for languages. What you would do is buy a mui and there is seperate unattend settings for this MUI. note that only xp pro, not home, supports mui's. There was a microsoft article on the mui unattend settings, try support.microsoft.com and search on mui and unattend.
-gosh
Are you sure about this? Windows XP Pro has an option to install the East Asian Language pack and no where does it say that I have to buy it.

I want my computer to read English and the East Asian Languages (mainly simplified and traditional Chinese characters). How can I add the East Asian languages in an unattended installation? Thanks!

That's HFSLIP 1.4.1 - not 1.5.0...
Ok, I'm using a older version of HFSLIP and for some odd reason now, the ISO isn't being created. Can you tell me why that is the case? Here's the log and I'll get back to you on the HF 1.5 issue later. Also, I have BBIE and CDIMAGE in the HFtools directory and in the past eveything worked. Now it doesn't for some odd reason.

Everytime I try to do an install, Windows hang during the installation process and it's done that five times in a row. Unfortunately I don't have a log for you guys, but I see this error message:
Error:
Installation Failed: D:\I386\asms. Error Message: The Parameter is incorrect
Fatal Error:
One of the components that Windows needs to setup could not be installed. The Parameter is incorrect. The funny thing is that this problem didn't exist back in the 1.4.x days. I didn't change any of the setup and I just migrated things over to 1.5 and I'm getting these problems!
0 -
Where can I get old versions of HFslip? Like in the 1.4 series; especially 1.4.2? If someone can put it up for me that would be great!
0 -
I know there have been a lot of different tweaks to arrange the icons in quicklaunch, but I'm wondering which tweak will just enable quicklaunch and go with the Windows default settings?
0 -
I think the "disable screensaver" tweak should be removed from the list. It just doesn't work in an unattended install.
0 -
Make your changes and save the theme as luna.theme.
Rename Luna.theme to Luna.the
Makecab Luna.the and you'll get luna.th_
Replace the existing one in your I386 folder with the one you just made.
Windows will use that one when installing.
And this will disable my screensaver? Are there no registry tweaks that does this?

Comeon guys!!!!!

In my registry tweak and winnt.sif file, I have disabled the Windows Firewall and the simple file sharing option is ticked in folder options. Yet, the options are greyed out even if I want to enable it. Why is this the case?

I'm thinking this may be too tough for some people to answer, but I thought I'll give it a try. I'm going to be overseas for most of the summer and my laptop is most likely going to be connected to unsecure networks. Security is going to be very important as I'll be logging on to my bank accounts and transferring funds and it would be tragic if somehow someone manage to access my usernames and passwords.
I think the most obvious things to do would be to make sure that a good AV and firewall is installed. However, I don't think that is enough. Would connecting to a VPN server help? I'm not sure how this would work, but people told me that through a VPN connection, all traffic is encrypted. I was thinking of just logging on to my university's VPN connection and pray that all the information that I'm sending would be encrypted. Would this help?

If you're doing it for an unattended install, then there's an even easier way - the "120 DPI" mode can be set thru your XML, example here - http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=90286Is there a registry tweak to enable 120 DPI?<DPI>120</DPI>
Can this be implemented through Vlite? If so, how?

Hi,
I hunted this tweak down personally not long ago now (found it on the official MS site, believe it or not). I've posted it in this thread that contains many more IE7 tweaks that you'll likely find useful.
For your convenience:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Zones\3]
"2200"=dword:00000000laze :-)
For some odd reasons, the settings are not applied. Did it worked in your unattended install?
0 -
@Sgt_Strider :
IE7 Window has to be opened atleast once before you apply the registry settings, otherwise its not working. so i open iexplore.exe after runonceex and restart, then apply the regs.
How do I get the settings to apply in an unattended install?
0 -
Yes, it's quite simple too. Just copy the contents of the DVD directly to the flash drive (or USB hard drive) and boot from it. Nothing special or difficult to make it work.
Other than that I don't have to do anything special to get Vista to work?
0 -
Does anyone here know?
0 -
Sorry if these are redundant questions, but I'm just wondering if the unattended, driver/program/hotfix integrations are hacked on or it follows the same standards that MIcrosoft's WAIK program does?
0 -
Does it work with any flash drive provided that it's fast enough?

Sometimes when I go to a place and want to download something, that activeX thing will pop up asking me for permission to download. How do I disable that thing?
