  1. Adobe Reader - a tale of a plugin When you open Adobe Reader, you find a colorful rectangular box on the right of toolbar. This box displays 8 messages, one at a time. If you are connected to the Internet, it should direct your browser to one of 8 URLs depending on what message is displayed when you click it. This box is known as the Adverts and it's not a plugin since it has no API. These are the 8 messages along with their URLs: Message: Do more with Adobe PDF URL: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/messaging/more.html Message: Create documents anyone can open URL: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat Message: View Adobe PDF files while you're on the road URL: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/messaging/mobile.html Message: Search Adobe PDF files URL: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/messaging/search.html Message: Simplify your review cycles URL: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/mess...g/simplify.html Message: Easily share digital photos URL: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/messaging/photos.html Message: Use electronic forms instead of paper URL: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/messaging/forms.html Message: Simplify your communications! URL: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/messaging/pdf.html The source of this box with its messages and URLs is a PDF file called "RdrMsgENU.pdf". This file is located in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 6.0\Reader\Messages\ENU\ Now, you may say: "I should delete this file, so I get rid of that useless box.". Yes, deleting this file should eliminate the box. But, instead of the rectangular box, you'll have a rectangular hole in the toolbar! This is what was, exactly, done by a stupid MST file distributed somewhere on the Internet. This is, also, what will happen if you expand: AR6.msi --> Acrobat Reader --> Reader Message Files, in WinINSTALL, then choose "Not Available". Then, any of the three solutions should leave you with a rectangular hole in the toolbar. Here is the solution; no Adverts and no space in the toolbar: In WinINSTALL, highlight AR6.msi, highlight the Registry title. Expand tree: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\6.0 Right-click "6.0", then add a new key "AdsInReader". Right-click "AdsInReader", then add this new value: Value=bShowAds Type=REG_DWORD Data=0
  2. Well, Teasy. I thought, deeply, in your suggestions. If you are unsure about what plugins you may need, or wether you should need to use some deleted plugins, then you need the following solution. Append these lines to your batch file: ECHO. ECHO Moving Adobe Plugins to Optional folder ren "%systemdrive%\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 6.0\Reader\Optional" Optional1 ren "%systemdrive%\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 6.0\Reader\plug_ins" Optional ren "%systemdrive%\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 6.0\Reader\Optional1" plug_ins move "%systemdrive%\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 6.0\Reader\plug_ins\README.TXT" "%systemdrive%\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 6.0\Reader\Optional\" ECHO. As you can see, Plugins inside "plug_ins" folder are not actually moved, but they really moved! No fear! If you do this trick, Adobe will open and behave correctly. If you want to ask "Why did you ignore the idea of plug_insBAK?", the answer is "Open README.TXT inside the Optional folder and you'll find the answer!". I hope you're satisfied with this solution. Within few days, there will be some additional customizations for Adobe Reader.
  3. Thank you for feedback. You're advised to use WinINSTALL LE when having tiring packages like those ones.
  4. This, also, works: setup.exe /qn Reboot=Suppress You can read this to know if "setup.msi /qn REBOOT=Suppress" makes problems: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=14386 To modify the msi, you can follow this guide: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=17365&st=40
  5. Have fun! What about GetDiz? Is the msi working fine?
  6. I think Astalavista should take the official method of WinZip.
  7. This is the best method on earth, so far. http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=17894&st=0
  8. OR When you reach the "Registration Information" screen, uncheck the box "Sign me up for a free copy ...". Then, type any crazy email address. I swear, this one works: I_Hate_MST@Files.Forever Then, put your mouse pointer in any other field, so that the "Next" button is activated. When you reach the "Installation share options" screen, you don't have to type anything. Just, hit "Next"!
  9. Alright. I should take some time to test these issues, then tell you.

The problem is that the "Display Readme file" option is selected by default. Why don't you email them, so that they disable it?
  15. Yes, this problem was reported by some users, here. Good work, Frank_Sechrist.
  16. Thank you Outer for the links. These versions should be more powerful. Thanks Djus. By the way, did you like ACDSee file associations method? I haven't received any feedback! I'm afraid it isn't working well for some people!
  17. << Another alternative for installing Acrobat update >> After extracting Ac60PrP1.exe using WinRAR or any, you should have three files: - MSPLauncher.exe - defaultMSP.ini - Ac60PrP1.msp Open defaultMSP.ini, then add these switches to the command line: /qb REBOOT=ReallySuppress So, the command line becomes: MSPCmdLine=/p Ac60PrP1.msp REINSTALLMODE=omus REINSTALL=ALL /qb REBOOT=ReallySuppress Put the three files in your $OEM$, then add this line to your batch file: start /wait %systemdrive%\Install\AcroPro6\MSPLauncher.exe
  18. Well! What runs js files is WScript.exe (Windows Script Host). I think it's installed by default with Windows. If not, then this is the problem. Otherwise, js files are not yet associated with WScript.exe on your machine! I don't know more explanations. However, there's another way explained by ZoSTeR here: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=16094&st=10
  19. I extracted the exe, deleted the two files "MSPLauncher.exe" and "defaultMSP.ini", then used "Ac60PrP1.msp" only to install the update. I used the same switch: start /wait msiexec.exe /p %systemdrive%\Install\AcroPro6\Ac60PrP1.msp REINSTALLMODE=omus REINSTALL=ALL /qb It ran successfully, but asked for reboot at the end. But I should say that Acrobat was installed just five minutes before installing the update and without being used. By the way, I used the modified package, you know.
  20. I'll check it and tell you.
  21. I'm afraid that applying the update needs the itw file! Is this correct, Frank_Sechrist?
  22. Why should you download Adobe Tuner (16 MB), if you can download WinINSTALL (12 MB) to do the job with only the two files: msi + cab? No need for itw! WinINSTALL can be used with any msi apps, but the tuner is limited to Acrobat. You can start here: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=17365 You can read Frank_Sechrist's comments for the update at: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=17365&st=80 However, the switch is included in defaultMSP.ini, which is extracted from the exe.

  24. Are you talking about "tis11sw1100.exe", 31.5 MB?
  25. talon Yes, this occurs if your System Restore is turned off. If it's turned on, you won't have installation interrupted by that message.
