  1. Hello, I have applied a security policy to the Domain controller, mainly for users to be able to log in to it locally, and to set the Message text and title, both have been set the same for the Domain Controller Security Policy, and the Domain Security Policy, however, the clients are not receiving the update. Any Help would be appreciated on how to get them to receive it.
  2. Thanks for the reply, I will try the memory test, yea the Server requires two sticks at a time, which have to be pairs. I Will post back when i've done the test, and report back my results, Again, Thanks
  3. Hello, Iv been using a Dell PowerEdge 2550 for a while, it was shipped with 2GB of memory (512 x4) then after a while of usage I had the error message 'The amount of system memory may have changed' so I removed 2 of the 512 sticks and all seemed well, server was running on 1GB of memory. All of a sudden I had to do a reboot of the server to which I get the error message 'The amount of memory may have changed' I don't understand why, Iv tried to alternate sticks but to no success, even though system has 1GB installed the BIOS is reporting between 540MB and 556MB, this changes on every reboot and has only recently started happening again. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.
  4. little update, it only seems to be Win 2000 Clients. XP Clients seem to connect ok. Thanks again. Ethan
  5. Hi Guys, got a problem with my terminal server. i went from a Custom made machine which was working fine with Server 2003, and was all good. But i recently bought a Dell Poweredge 2550 Machine, and decided to use that as the Server, so stuck XP on custom machine and server 03 on the Dell. Set up Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, etc all fine, all good then installed Terminal server, and licencing. All was fine with that, now today, i tried to connect off a win 2000 client, and was told the connection cannot be made because there are no licence servers to obtain a licence from. So i went to the server to check, and when i open the Licence Manager, it tell me no Licence server could be found, so i right clicked on the tree and selected connect to computer, so i done that, and connected to the Host, then it found the Licence server and i didnt know what was wrong So i tried to connect again, and once again, the same problem. So i uninstalled the Licencing from add/remove windows components, and then reinstalled, once again, that solved nothing. it has working on all other Test Servers ive made, but no i want to work on a dedicated server, it dont seem to want to. Also, another thing i noticed is that everything i reboot, there is no clock in the notification area, i can enable it, on taskbar properies, and it comes back, until i reboot, any help with this would be great, dont know whats causing the problems Thanks alot Ethan
  6. There are no error logs for the DHCP Server, everything seems to be running fine, it appears to be clients with Wired, and Wifi access, because sometimes WiFi is easier so that will be used and vice versa, All of the Wired only clients seem fine, but ive demoted the DC down to a standalone server, and instead of using windows Wizards i manually set it all up. DHCP First, then DNS, then AD, and so far so good, everything seems to be working, apart from Software Packages, always says the Path is not valid or not enough permissions, when there are, so not sure what that is. Thanks for your reply to Ethan
  7. Hi, ive got a domain controller, running Server 2003, all was good, GPO, Security Policys, Software Policies, all being downloaded, and applied to all clients, now i've just bought a Dell Poweredge 2550, and installed, Server 2000 on it, and got it hooked up to the domain, as a File Server, then upgraded to Server 2003 R2. Now, since the upgrade, none of the clients, Not even the Domain Controller, are getting the security settings. Don't know whats happenened. Also, im getting Errors in the Event Viewer of the Clients, some of the errors are: This happens on Most Logons, The system failed to update and remove host (A) resource records (RRs) for network adapter with settings: Adapter Name : {EB77169C-2DC6-409E-903F-741F36908BF8} Host Name : emachines Primary Domain Suffix : giveago.net DNS server list : 192.168.1.2 Sent update to server : 192.1.1.1 IP Address(es) : 192.168.1.11 The reason the update request failed was because of a system problem. For specific error code, see the record data displayed below. For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp. Should i be concerned by this? and there is this one: Your computer was not able to renew its address from the network (from the DHCP Server) for the Network Card with network address 00234D97078B. The following error occurred: The operation was canceled by the user. . Your computer will continue to try and obtain an address on its own from the network address (DHCP) server. For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp. Don't really know whats happened, Thanks for your help guys! Ethan
  8. Is there any way to stop this. ive had no experience with Scripts, so if i need one of them, i will need to find out how to do it. Thanks Ethan
  9. Hello, ive set up a lab server running server 2003. i want to set up a VPN and a Terminal server from the same server, all well and good, but the server will not receive connections from any machine over the internet, if it is on the LAN/WLAN then all is good. Now i have an orange Livebox, not the best, but it will do, now i had this working before, which was great, can any body help me with the set up of the live box, or maybe even the server. Thanks, Ethan
  10. Hello, i'm trying to set up a DC running on Server 2003, which will consist of the DC, 2 local Clients running xp pro, and then several roaming clients which will connect through VPN, but because ive got a router in place, im not sure on how to set the DNS server up to work correctly, here is the info. Server Local IP: 192.168.2.6 Local DNS Address: 192.168.2.6 ISP DNS: 195.92.195.90 Secondary ISP DNS: 195.92.195.91 i have set up forwarders in the DNS Server and pointed them to the ISP DNS, but the clients cannot logon. 11. Oh Hey dude, yea im running it through a DVI Adapter to HDMI straight into the TV, the control centre is picking up my TV correctly, telling my the max res. etc, and it all works 100%, until i go onto something else, such as an AV channel, or another HDMI Switch, then when i go back, its all screwed up. Ethan
  12. Hello, havn't been here in a while, just figured that i tend to get all the answers here, so i return lol, i have a simple system sitting next to my tv in my bedroom just for the purpose of XviD, BBC iPlayer etc, my TV only has one HDMI out, so i bought a Belkin Pure AV 3-1 HDMI Splitter, so my PS3 works fine through it, outputting at my tv's full 1080i, Xbox only outputs at 480p, this is a known problem apparently with the compatibility of my tv and the Xbox, but with my PC, when i select the PC on the PureAV Switch, the computer makes a Hardware found Noise, and i get all scrambled items on the screen, unless i restart the computer with the hdmi selected then its fine, but i like to switch from my PS3, to my PC etc, which can't be done, so i have to use the VGA cable, which for my HD content isn't very good, im using the latest ATI catalyst control centre from their website, just wondered if there was any way around this, as it's annoying to have to restard my computer each time i want to view it on my tv/ Thanks in advance Ethan...
  13. I've done what you suggested, all seems to work, but if i ping the Laptop from the server i dont get a response, only if i go back to Dynamic IP Address's does it recognise the laptop. Again, Thanks for Help
  14. Even though both connection will not be enable at the same time, it will be Wired (if speed is needed) or wireless for flexibility. If i manually set the Ip on Both Connections to the same IP, will the DHCP Server reject it? Thanks for quick Reply
  15. Hello. MyDHCP is giving out IP Address's corrently, which is great, how ever, i have 2 laptops on a test lab, when its plugged in to the network through ethernet it gets the IP of 192.168.1.189 and when it uses Wi-Fi it gets the ip of 192.168.1.13, Becuase it has the same computer name on both IPs i cannot apply GPO or any Remote Control, its still connecting to the Domain, and can still use the internet, and Terminal Server etc... so its reading the network fine... but is there a way for the Same IP of 192.168.1.189 to be given out to Both MAC Address's Thanks
  16. hello, not been here in ages :| set up a test lab, with Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition (was SP2 but had to uninstall it when it knocked off all my RIS Set up and replaced it with the new Deployment Service - which didnt work :S ) with a XP Pro SP2 Client, these are the only 2 machines in the lab, users can logon and browse the net, view Shared Folders, printers and logon to the Terminal Server. but GPO will not download... checked the MS website, that said to add a Registry key, but the problem is still there. After checking event manager i get the following problem: Description: Windows cannot determine the user or computer name. (The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted. ). Group Policy processing aborted. For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp. Source: Userenv Event ID: 1053 Also, im using a Livebox as the Router, to connect the two ( i know its bad, but its all i have at the moment, isit this thats causing the problem, because i read some where that the DNS of the Server 03, is clashing with the DNS of the Livebox, becuase i dont use the Server 03 DHCP server, i use the DHCP of the Livebox.) I Hope this is enough information, thanks Very Confussed lol

  19. Hi, so heres the problem, i bought a Compaq C555EU, about 2 weeks ago, and recently, i had a serious Network problem, which took down two computers, including the Laptop. So, when i went to restore Vista back onto the system, i found that there were no Partitions avaliable on the system, so i had to disable the SATA Native support, to see what XP thought of the problem, and i had my complete HDD as Un partitioned, (serious problem), so now there is no way to boot back into Vista, becuase the restore partition had also gone, and i didnt make restore CDs, becuase i had the backup partition, when i contacted HP, i had no response at all. i dont want to go and buy vista again, so i even looked to see if i could download a OEM version, and use my Licence Key to activate it etc. but again, no luck. so im now running windows XP on here. Can someone please help, like i said i dont really want to pay for Vista again, im running Vista Home Premium x86 OEM, well, i was. Thanks. Ethan

  22. and this can be done to help connect all wi-fi cards to the Domain, before logon?
  23. i have no issues with the CTRL + Alt + Del, i cannot make the Wireless connect to domain/network, before logon Becasue if i need to log on to the computer to connect to the domain, how can it be done, if the network has not been connected. Its hard to explain.... I need my wireless network connection on the client machines to conect, before they logon, so they can access the Domain, because currently, the only account that can be used are the local ones .... If i set the option to logon to the Domain, it says that the Domain is unavaliable ... Hope this is more clear
  24. I have looked in the Registry, and cant find anything to do with the Wireless, ok there is a wireless network string there, but its just the name of the wireless, there is no like Connect at boot up option. After following the link, i cant seem to do it, because the files etc that are shown in the registry of the example, i do not have Please Help, is there like a command i can make the computer run before i need to logon .... this is only so i can connect to the domain, or is there a way i can make the computer connect to the domain, after logon, automatically ..... without a choice in the matter, so it will connect .... its Thanks Ethan
