  1. Hey, little update, ive managed to sort it out, i simply added a A record, to my hosts IP address, my host, (hostgator). asked me if i planned to host the mailing server myself, i declined, but is that possible, if i was to use exchange server, can i get it to issue email address' using my @domain.com name? Ethan
  2. Has it happens no its not, Basically the no-ip issue is not that important, its just a nuicance bacause i bought a second domain for the no-ip purpose, this issue is that basically if i go to my browser and type in domain.com it will not allow me to access my website, because i beleive it thinks im trying to access the domain? :S Does this make sence? Thanks, for your continued help lol. Ethan
  3. The Domain is has only got 1 Server and 3 Clients, its a work related domain controller, i don't beleive i have a fixed IP address with my Web Host.
  4. Hello, A Slight problem, basically I own a Domain name, which is hosting our company website, say for example domain.com And my Server/DC has the Domain name of domain.com So when i try and access my website, my webmail etc, i just simply get page cannot be displayed, is there an easy way of resolving this, without having to reconfigure the server/DC? Thanks, Ethan
  5. Hello, simple question is there an easy way to hide drive/prevent access to drives, basically the two extra drives I need to hide are E: and F:, which are not on the GPO Object setting, is there an easy way to add them, or some other way to hide the drives? Thanks
  6. Perfect, thanks for all your help guys, ill buy 4 sticks of it, and post back my results! Thanks again!! Saved me alot of stress and possibly alot of money!
  7. A little update, found this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250610145456&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT can someone please verify its suitable for what i need, thanks
  8. Well, most likely not desktop-style "plain" PC133, more like plain ECC registered PC133 SDRAM (that would be fairly "plain" as far as servers go). Sorry for not being clear enough. So is that cheap enough then, bare in mind i live in the UK, so US Postage is stupidly priced.
  9. I've tried it with various 168 Pin SDRAM sticks, single ones, and still nothing, just beeps non stop.
  10. Yea, but do i need to add any forwaders or anything else in my DNS Server to accept connection, (the Machine i want to rdp is my ad, dns, dhcp server) because when i RDP/VPN my domain name, with it forwarded to no-ip's address nothing happens.
  11. No it isnt the ones on the amazon page, it is just standard SDRAM by the looks of things, they have no heat spreaders, and the notches are further apart than the image, by alot too. But the Server case, insists the Machine requires them in pairs, other wise it won't boot, just get the beeping from the bios speaker then.
  12. Yea, its purely used as a DC, DNS and DHCP, nothing more, but its a waste of a machine, when everything in it works perfect bar the memory, so can I just use normal SDRAM in the machine? Sorry I'm more of a software person as a posed to hardware.
  13. In the GPMC it says only the Default Domain controller policy is applied. But i dont want to apply a GPO, i need to apply the 'Domain Controller Security Policy' in the Administrative tools folder. Didn't think i could apply a security policy via a GPO I've also tried to enforce the policy, but nothing has changed. forced update, and still nothing.

  15. The DC that's not receiving the update is the only DC in the Tree, one DC, One tree, one forest. So the domain controller security policy only needs to be applied to one machine, and that's the DC! Which is where the security policy is being set.
  16. Well, i can get to the server using the no-ip host easy, just type the host into the RDP box, same goes for the IP, i can simply type in the IP and its connected. Just don't know if i need to change the DNS to no-ips DNS servers as a posed to the godaddy ones, and if i need to edit anything in my dns server settings!
  17. Yea the server offers RAID, so that clears that one up, it is 168 pin memory. I live in the UK, so the postage on those items is steep. Shame you cant use normal SDRAM, because i've got loads of it laying around! ive just looked inside the machine im using to type this up on, and it takes 2x256Mb, 168Pin SDRAM memory. isit worth sticking them in the server? or do i run the risk of ruining the sticks/motherboard?
  18. Yea i can RDP my current IP address, well i have DNS installed on my DC, but the DNS server i use to browse the net is my ISPs DNS. no-ip want me to buy a domain name off them, or transfer an existing one, which i can only do after six months, I thought it could just simply be forwarded to the no-ip host name/server ip, but that just doesn't seem to work.
  19. Just Done a memtest, and im getting failures every other second, so i'm assuming its the memory thats faulty. But it costs more me to replace the memory that what the server is worth, waste of a server really! Hmmm... let me put things together... memory needs to be in pairs... replacement memory costs more than the system... this sounds like my old computer! Which used first-gen RAMBUS where 2x1GB sticks cost about $700 last I checked! Its a little cheaper now I think as time goes on but I have already moved on away from that (except I still have that system) now my main PC uses DDR2. Yea the server uses 4x512Mb sticks, requires them in pairs, The stick reads: PC133R-333-542-82 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Dell-Poweredge-2550-Memory-RAM-512MB-PC133R-SDRAM_W0QQitemZ300356084581QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Computing_Networking_SM?hash=item45ee9e2365#ht_1638wt_964 Bare in mind the server set me back £30, so the memory will work out as more. Just don't understand how it can run faultless for months on end, then all of a sudden, decide to stop. It also has a 128Mb Base memory i think its called, installed, which i next to the RAM Modules, don't understand what that is for either.
  20. It seems to think the security policy is applied to the domain controller, when it isn't. At this point I'm stuck. It's being applied to clients, but not the DC. Don't understand it.
  21. Hello, i need to use no-ip's service because my ISP will not offer a static IP, so last night I bought a domain name, domain.info for example, to use to connect to my server via RDP/VPN, now when i forward it to my no-ip host name it won't connect, nor will it connect if i forward it to my servers ip. is there anything i need to do to the DNS setting on my Domain Controller, no-ip host, or domain host (godaddy). Thanks Ethan
  22. The Security policy has been applied to the clients, with the gpupdate /force command, however the domain controller is not updating itself, its not letting users log in interactively/through terminal server. even though the required info has been filled out. gpupdate /force doesn't seem to do anything on the actual domain controller.

  24. How would that work though, because i believe you need to load the new bios with a floppy disc, and i only have a floppy disc drive on the server, nothing else.
