  1. Im not asking if it will decrease ATI performance, simply that is it not a bit of a waste getting a board capable of SLI, and then buying an ATI card, which ultimately would prevent you from running dual vga... Surely this must play a large part on card/board selection, and as there are not many good CrossFire capable boards, you have no choice but to go SLI, and then Nvidia, otherwise you will lose the added functionality an SLI board provides... I suppose this is the trade off you make...
  2. just got an Opty 146, and am researchin for a new rig setup... at present lookin at MSI Diamond Plus, DFI Expert of ASUS A8N32... but you can see my problem all SLI boards... sending me down the Nvidia road...!!! Ive always had ATI cards.. and only recently sold my AGP x850xt (after 2 weeks!!!), cos I discovered the unleashable power of the Opty, and did not want to miss out on such a cracker!!! Theres not much choice for CrossFire boards, and there are to be expected teething problems, while SLI is now established and running great by all accounts.... Would anyone really buy an SLI board, and choose an ATI video card... is this not just computer suicide, as you would be killing off any possibility of adding a second graphics card... My dilema then boils down to the 7800GT or the x1800XL... both of which have their pros and cons, in games such as FEAR and HL2... but with an SLI board seemingly the only sensible option, does this rule out ATI all together... Im not a hardcore gamer, but want the best from what I do play.. and certainly dont want to rule out the possibility of dual vga, by adding a second card at a later date... A month has gone by since I got my Cpty.. and I dont know how much longer I can hold out!!!
  3. True... I have a 3 part roe sequeunce.. install drivers, then reboot, and it carries on with whatever came next in original lisit... I then install apps and finally a new list for regtweaks (which avoids having one huge list of installs)
  4. Thankfully then, for the CABNE that tuned up today.. for £100!!! Could be a potential bargain!!!
  5. Anyone got one, had any success with overclocking?? It seems this is the only one I can find in the UK, as they have been selling like hot cakes! Tempted to get one, before they all disappear, but just wanted to know if anyone had any success...?? I believe others can get near the 3ghz mark... Thanks
  6. Not used tha prog.. but assume its a way of creating the runonceex.cmd (if it wasnt easy enough to write it manually).... Do you know anything about unattended cd layout, and where things belong... If not, I suggest you start from the beginning, here... www.unattended.msfn.org or more appropriately, here http://www.unattended.msfn.org/intermediat...s/runonceex.htm
  7. Can I assume that the activation process cannot be done in the silent install???? Do you not have to enter the cd key to install the product first, even before thinking about activation???
  8. Thanks to you all for your comments.... The reason for the need is to enable me to install my games on a different partition, however, there are still files and maybe keys copied to the OS folders and registry... I want to be able to see, and copy any of these, so incase of rebuilds, I could just copy these back over without the need to reinstall the game and over-write the original install. Ive just been trying Total Uninstall and it seems to do what Im after, I was just looking for alternatives. Cheers:-)
  9. So what was mapdrive doing wrong...??? I am just curious, as I am a user of mapdrive, and given my system config, with 2 dvds, and 6 partitions... it works flawlessly for me. mdes, the developer was also very helpful in assisting with a few mods to make it work better for my config, however, the latest release works fine.
  10. Ive been searchin for ages for an app that will monitor files placed on your computer, and registry details added modified.. during an installation. Many apps currently available just seem to be variations of the ADD/REMOVE utility in windows, and dont allow you to see whats actually been put on your hd, and allow you to completely uninstall all traces. Taking a snapshot of the filesystem and registry both pre & post install, and listing the modifications. Norton used to have CleanSweep, which has since long gone, and was somewhat primative, are there any modern day versions/alternatives?? Thanks
  11. Am getting this error when simply selecting NO to Display sorted?... I am hoping this will list and install files according to their order number, and not alphabetically... Any ideas..?? I have searched, but could not find this specific error, or reference the the file. I have also played about with a few settings, despite which, my entries still seem to appear alphabetically, rather than using their defined sort order.. is this just the way it is...??? Thanks
  12. Use this app to slipstream your sata drivers and any others, its real easy to use... read the posts, then grab the prog... http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=55924&hl=
  13. Thanks jbm.... must be acorrupt file in the folder then...
  14. Lol.. next time, read that thread, and notice me posting in it!!!! My question is also different, the answer to which I could not find.. I know it can be burnt to dvd, but it dont seem to work if the image size in greater than that of a cd, hence my question....
  15. I dont get this happening on my current unattended install cd using RoE method of installing stuff, why would this happen during the use of WPI. I dont see what WPI would be doing different, I run .bat, .cmd, .exe, .reg .msi etc from my cd without any warnings/popups.. WPI just installs the same things that my RoE would, in the same way... So the orignal reg entries are restored?, I see no reg undo, or anything that would reverse this entry... Thanks.... This would definately make my cd more configurable, without the need of a multi OS install disk... it looks fantastic
  16. Hmmm... I have just removed my Software folder from the image, and reduced it back down to 420mb, and it worked fine... It would seem that the boot file I extracted from the CD must contain information about the media size... must look for info about dvd bott files... Anyone got any suggestions... I know this seems like a large image, but ultimately I may decide to move the Software folder onto another drive, and point the RoE installs to the drive, rather than the disk, but for now it would be handy to be able to use a DVD...
  17. After testing my image with VMWARE, which all went nice and smooth, I burned the bootbale image to dvd, and it wont work, does not recognise it as a boot disk. The image size is now 1.6gb, it worked fine on my previous dvd when the size was <700mb, the only thing I can think of is when creating the image using UltraISO, I extracted the boot file from an orignal bootbale CD - which now seems like the obvious problem. Are dvd boot files different from CD ones, it all worked well when the image was CD size, nows it exceeded them, the dvd is not recognised... do these boot files report media size limits?? Thanks in advance
  18. What size is your image, im having probs booting a DVD which is 1.6gb, worked fine <900mb... Only thing I can think of is that I extraced the boot image from an original CD, and am wondering if this is the reason... Searchin for dvd boot image at mo to find out....
  19. My first look at what appear to be a very useful little prog indeed, seems on first look that it is an advanced alternative for installing apps via the RoE method.... Ive been having a browse through its contents, to understand what it does, and how it does it... as with most things, I like to get a good understanding of them before I implement them... I am however, a little puzzled by the wpi.reg file... What does this do exactly... Thanks
  20. Thanks.... I suppose Ill just have to try it mith the games I have... !! Cheers
  21. I am wondering if I install games onto a different disk/drive, other than my OS drive... and then format my OS drive, and reinstall windows... will I still be able to play the games without problem??? Do the games install teg entries necessary to play, and if so.. does a simple export/improt work ok??? I want to keep all my installed games sseperate from the OS, so that in the case of rebuilds, I dont have to worry about moving/saving game information. Also, games take up a huge amount of space, and I would prefer they were on a different dedicated partition... STEAM, and HL2 download etc... works fine, but I know thats a bit different from a conventional CD install. I will prob try anyway, just to see, as is the best way.. but just wanted an opinion/advice... Thanks
  22. I may be wrong, but I very much doubt you could silently uninstall such software... surely that would be a virus developer/hackers dream if they could do such a thing without user knowledge/intervention... Imagine the havoc the could be caused if such software oculd be removed in such a way...???
  23. The usual place for everything unattended... Depends how far you wanna go really, but it did me fine, even with a non enterprise version of Office, as still able to make admin install, silent unattended.. with help from several posts from this forum... http://www.unattended.msfn.org/intermediat.../office2003.htm Always a good place to start....
  24. Im not too sure if I understand some of your points... Although the files/folders will be opied across, they will not be installed... Installing them is a physical process not achieved by just copying them to the HD, which is th job of the ROE whether run from cmdlines.txt or GUIRUNONCE.
  25. I believe that if you apply them via cmdlines.txt at the t12 stage, as there is no user account created at this point, all reg tweaks will be applied to any/all created accounts.... This is the answer I got when I enquired... http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=56701&hl= Ive not quite got that far to test out yet.... let me know how you get on...
