  1. Xeno86, Thank you. This is the project that just keeps giving. Wonderful work. My old Thinkpad continued to be relevant because of your great work. cure
  2. I tried the files. Three failed entirely, two reported an error but opened, plus there were four dotx files that I and the converter were unfamillar with.Again, I would be happy to provide the crash log for each, but I need to be told where to find it. PS Why do the pair of docx files that I am trying to attach here fail to post?

  4. Now we would like crash logs / those files. Where do I find the crash log? (A search of *.log with today's date turned up nothing). Equally, the docx files are actually student papers from my archive so I can't just post them. I might be able to do something with email after stripping off names. Please send me a PM.
  5. I repeated the experiment with the latest version that I could find: 12.0.6500.5000. It works at least as well and probably better.
  6. I used Orca to delete the launch conditions of O12Conv.msi from FileFormatConverters.exe version 12.0.6015.5000. Started the O12Conv.msi and it installed with one reboot and a scanregw error. I tried a dozen docx files using Word 2002. Perhaps 7 converted perfectly. Three converted but with this error: "There was an error opening file." Two failed to converted with this error in Wordconv: "This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down." As expected pptx files failed to convert. Any thoughts on whether the latest version of the converter might yield better results? Impressive work in any case. Thanx.
  7. KM is to be recommmended. I have been using for years and always update to the latest stable version whenever I reinstall my 98ME OS. The one downside is that the K-meleon website is something of a disaster, with badly outdated info, links, and extensions. Contemporary answers can of course be found in the forum, but it makes for a far from seemless experience.
  8. The solution, for me at least, was to install option 3 of 98SE2ME. That may or may not drop the icon by itself, but it definitely drops it in combination with the registry instructions.

    Netbeui

Adding printing too but that did not help. I pulled out an old Netgear 614 router and used an unencrypted wireless connection and met with no success.

    Netbeui

Ah, the plot thickens . . . . I suspected that it might be the router, so I then tried the ad-hoc, but it didn't work either. Share-level is in effect. I tried just sharing files and not printers. Perhaps adding printer will make a difference? As to the router, it has DD-WRT on it should be amenable, at least with the right settings, to just about anything. Unfortunately my search of DD-WRT and Netbeui yielded nothing that made much sense to me.
  11. Yes, this would be of interest.
  12. Yes, same limitations. I am new to Foobar, so I had not notice. I was mostly looking for a GUI batch converter that used the latest Nero AAC transcoder and could reader FLAC. But a little practice with the program is beginning to impress me. I'll drop you a note if I get stuck with anything. Thanx.

    Netbeui

I have a pair of 98SE installations that have been fully tweaked out with the Kernelex, ME files, and what not. Netbeui, not over TCP, does not want to work on them. I can ping back and forth between them, but each is not even visible to itself in My Network Places. Folders have been shared on each to no avail. I have tried both through an access point and ad-hock. Yes, sharing works just fine with TCP, but for security reasons I wanted to limit the sharing to the non-routable netbeui. Does anyone know whether Netbeui still functions correctly with all the upgrades? Thanx.
  14. A thread in a forum offers very poor functionality as a database. Two possibilities occur to me: a Wikipedia page on Kernelex with a compatibility section or a Google Docs spreadsheet. Either would be editable by any of us as we have more up-to-date information. Thoughts? Other or better solutions?

  16. Foobar2000 9.5.6, with at temporary registry tweak to install it, has worked with Kernelex for a while now. It is, however, getting a bit old in the tooth from the point of view of plugins. Older plugins are available here: http://foobar2000.h12.ru/components_old.html Foobar 1.0, with the addition of dbghelp.dll from XP installation disk, installs and runs using Kernel 4.5 RC 4 in XP 2 compatibility mode. BUT external converters (e.g. Nero AAC, Flac, and Lame) all fail with with the same error: "Conversion failed: Could not start commandline encoder: This function is only valid in Win32 mode." Is there any hope of a tweak of some sort to overcome this problem? To my entirely amateur eye it might not be a KernelEx matter. Foobar 1.1 installs but refuses to run giving the following errors: "Shared.dll is linked to missing export Kernel32.dll: HeapQueryInformation" and "A device attached to the system is not function". That presumably is a KernelEx matter, but one that is pointless if the same problem as above arises. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanx.
  17. On a fresh install of 98SE tweaked out with the latest Revolution 9, Kernelex, and 98SE2ME, I have discovered that the Help icon in the Start Menu can't be deleted with NoHelp or NoSMHelp Dwords in the registry. Other suggestions? Thanx.
  18. You can probably expect Gates and/or Ballmer to be knocking on your door anytime, demanding you surrender your Windows 98 CD, COA and product key! (Sorry, couldn't resist the joke!) Ok, that explains the fat guy in red stuck in my chimney.
  19. If we are talking of PDF editor (or any other Trial software), you are probably falling into: of Rule #1.a http://www.msfn.org/board/forum-rules-upda...ead-t18408.html Now, would be "being banned from MSFN" considered "harm"? jaclaz Yes, that would be harm. So forget it.
  20. I just discovered the files in the Temporary Internet Files folder are hidden from the search function unless the search has as its focus precisely that folder. Are there other folders in the Windows directory that are similarly hidden? And how can this 'feature' be turned off? Thanx.
  21. A slip of the pen, so to speak. Any probable harm in kicking the date forward a few years? PS I did google it previously. Is there a link to IAGT (I Already Googled That)? And no, I didn't google IAGT.
  22. A very rough, mostly not attributed, complilation of the info from the above posts follows. As it was made chiefly for personal consumption, I didn't bother with games. Entries are grouped themetically, at least to the degree that I (correctly) recognised their function. All corrections, improvements and revisions, even including the addition of games, would be appreciated and beneficial to us all. 23. In HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion there is the following: " "ExpireDate"="2009/11/18". It doesn't appear on my other 98SE and I can't track down any information about it. Has anyone seen it before, knows what it does? Thanx.
