  5. After even a SAFE MODE didn't change things, I've cleared all the Events in the Event Viewer. after a reboot, here are the Logs: Errors: Performance power management features on processor 0 are disabled due to a firmware problem. 6. no, I only have one user in this windows installation. the user should also have administrator privileges - which I can't see if he has them... all the software is installed and active, just no icons on the desktop or windows explorer to view files...
  7. Hello, Yesterday I tried to save a word document and realized that none of the SAVE/OPEN command are working. looking at the desktop it was empty of icons. the task bar is on, and according to the Task Manager explorer.exe is running. I tried restating the computer as well as the explorer process, but nothing. I also re-scanned my computer for viruses all night long... anything else I can try?
  8. after this I'm back to the normal (Vista) values. assertion stayed the same...
  9. took the laptop to the lab: there was a screw releases in the CPU fan - so the CPU got heated, therefor the laptop shutdown... thanks for all the helpers...
  10. just finished formatting and reinstalling Win7-7100. the computer still turns off whenever it feels like... (this time without the 'unchecked hibernation' notification)
  11. Great, now I have hibernation checked, so instead of turning off the computer after an hour, it hibernated after 30minutes (which obviously take a lot longer to process). any new ideas?
  12. hibernate is not even there...
  13. in addition to the things said above, whenever I turn the computer on again, Windows does not fully load, and turns off before it finishes. Windows does load completely in Safe Mode, though...
  14. Hi, after an hour or so of usage, my windows decides to show me a message saying I have an unchecked hibernation, and if I want to go into hibernation now? no matter if I click YES, NO, or nothing, the computer turns off completely... what can I do?

  18. sorry, changed the scheme and it works...
  19. neither option (Aero Hack or CPU=3.8) started the Aero... (I've restarted)
  20. I'm almost sure you have "Power Saving" set in the Power Options, or in other words, your CPU isn't working at full speed and the settings won't let it get to the full speed (EIST settings in BIOS could be also playing a role here). sorry to disappoint you. I have balanced power management, with CPU at 100% when plugged-in. ha!!! changing to high performance did help, it's now on 3.8... (which is still quite low)
  21. but that won't explain the fact that my processor score went down to 2.9!
  22. great now I don't have Aero...
  23. Thank you guys, as suggested I've upgraded to RC1 build 7100. not my HD is rated 4.3 (as it was in Vista)!!! but my processor went down to 2.9
  24. My HD is 3 y/o, same as the computer. the cmd was: winsat disk
