I just recently got my grandmother a computer and while none of us are rich I am trying to find open source or cheap applications for XP to make it more accessible and user friendly with as little hassle as possible for mundane tasks like surfing the web and copying files from a digital camera to her old (but new for her) computer. So: Which is the best web browser for a person with poor eye-sight? I am very familiar with Firefox but not sure if Firefox has better add-ons than for example Opera or what add-ons to even look for if they exist. Is there a simplistic replacement for the traditional menu and desktop style that pretty much all computers use, like for example the old manager for Mac OS “At Ease” which is probably ten years old now but something along those lines would be ideal. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/At_Ease If you plan on suggesting any screen reader please note that it should support Swedish as her English is not the best, not that shes clueless but still, utilities to make the computer experience less overwhelming and cluttered would be nice. I do love the magnifying glass in Windows 7 which even I use to see fine print on my monitor from way over the room and I know vista’s can be adjusted to act the same but the one in XP is horrible. I guess I could try installing win7 for her but Vista is out of the question, that would be like a brick. I know pretty much nothing of Linux so if you’re going to suggest anything like that please, be gentle with the technical stuff, but windows I can hack around with pretty well. Comp specs: 768megs of ram , 1.7GHz Athlon with a small HDD, too small for Vista without heavy Vlite modifications… Right now it’s XP sp3 and even the 120DPI and smaller screen resolution doesn’t help her much, pretty bad eye-sight but she did see with like 300-400% magnifying resolution on a 15” monitor on a normal website with normal font size. Please! Help an old lady out by helping me.

USB DEVICE NOT RECOGNIZED is all I've ever got despite reinstalling windows, upgrading BIOS, testing several forceware and nforce drivers on my stationary computer, yet just now i figured it had to be the pda phone that was faulty, a HTC tytn with windows mobile 6 so i connected my pda tp the laptop running the same type of vista as my stationary does. I am such a proud owner so i posted a few screenshots from my laptop, notice how exactly everything works just like it's supposed to and it installs it quickly and even identifies the pda icon correctly. I was blown away by how Vista occasionally can work and how good it feels. The question is what's wrong with my laptop since there's nothing wrong with the phone itself. Since i bought the Asus P5N-T Deluxe my pda hasn't worked with the computer, I get errors like, can't install windows mobile network driver (or something similar), usb device not recognized and mostly it doesn't react at all when i connect the pda, tho it still charges over the usb cable in either case. Should i just buy a new mainboard? Is there anything i can try? I have had several issues with it making me pretty sick and tired of it.

Hey i have a few questions here i hope i might get some help with and it's about bluetooth and vista... I have a Microsoft laser mouse 8000 bluetooth with dongle, what stack is that using, becouse despite me having installed the intelli software and vista accepts the dongle when i pair my bluetooth handsfree with vista then vista asks for a driver for unknown bluetooth adapter... What stack does the logitech dinovo edge use? i have that too. can i connect both ms mouse and logitech keyboard just one of any of them dongles?

I have a small inconvenience on my hands. I have outlook 2007 installed and set as my default e-mail client on my system but when using certain Vista functions like right-clicking on a file in explorer and choosing the "compress and e-mail" function it does use 7zip to compress it into a zip file and then opens the wrong e-mail client to send with, it pops up the wizzard for creating an account in windows mail. its the same thing when using the windows snipping tool, taking a screenshot and then choosing the programs function "send snip" as either an e-mail or an e-mail attachment. I suppose it's a question of a registry fix or something?

I've been using Outlook 2007 with the latest spam filter updates via vistas win update and still i get daily crappy viagra spam with the topic VIAGRA INC and since i NEVER buy viagra i might as well if possible add a rule to auto delete any mail including the word viagra, is it possible?

i did update the video driver which seems to have helped, its been 3 days of uptime now (record!!!) and it seems to have fixed it. do you guys have any good source of material to teach how to analyze error reports from full dumps etc?

So, how do i associate .001 with 7zip to it does extract the entire series not just the .001 file. why do people pack in that type of format?

I would like to make a on-screen form in livecycle, just a basic one with 2 column design and 2 columns of form fields, how do i link the last form field of column 1 to automatically let the user continue typing on to the next columns first field?

Hello. I would you your help in creating an outlook 2007 e-mail template. I am experienced with xhtml and css and am fully capable of coding the design i desire but i have no idea how to make a template for outlook 2007 to use for emails. The image added with my post describes what i want the template too look like once compose new emaile based on template has been chosen. I want the subject to be "rubrik saknas" = subject missing to be stated untill one chooses to change it. And the business card based on one's personal information added in the outlook 2007 adress book added as an attached file. Next is the most enigmatic steps for me, how do i design the visual part of the template?

i've been going through the settings in my qtek s100 and i cannot figure out how to use a custom alarm sound for stuff like appointments and wake-up alarms, where's the setting for that? I know I've done it before but i can't for the life of me remember how..

that vista shows a picture of a movie as its icon is a function i love, but is there anyway to complement the supported list of files that it shows previews for? mkv is one filetype which i come across frequently and thus i want that to be shown in preview too.

Vista doesent preview video files when viewing a folder with large icons anymore, i dont know why but how do i bring the previews back?

Hey, ive got a few hdd's mapped as network drives, they show up connected and working in my computer and everything. its all working. so why cant i add links from programs installed on a network drive to the new improved vista start meny? where are physically is that list saved on my computer?

on my main computer which i am at now the taplet pc input service is disabled and i can use the snipping tool as i please. got any other ideas what could the causing the problem?

I believe i deleted the snipping tool from the startmenu in my early vista days thinking i would have no use for it, oh how wrong i was.... Anyways i finally figured out its located in the system32 folder and i copied it from one vista installation to my computer, tho now when i try lauching it wont start, nothing happens! what further files are needed for the snipping tool? or how do i simply rebuild deleted shortcuts and such changes to the startmenu?

I have vista 32bit final installed on several machines now with different hardware configurations and from time to time, roughly 1.5 days appart my webbrowsing will stop working, page cannot be views type standars error message is displayed in both firefox and internet explorer across more than just the machine im using currently and they both have different hardware. While the error is in affect i can still listen to my winamp di.fm radio, download through various P2P programs, but i simply cannot go to any websites. On my current machine all i have to do is wait liek 10 minutes and it will work again, the other machine i need to reboot. both computers have the latest win updates, one is a swedish install and the other is english. repairing network utility in the network center doesent help, any ideas why this little bug appears?

I need help here. I'm attending a course in which we are to learn how to start and mannage a buisness here in Sweden. And a few of us are not from the city the course is in so we have to travel about 140km each day to and back from. Now, certain days there's only about 1-2 hours of class on a day and the buss schedules are terrible making us either late for class or several hours between the end of the day and next bus home. So those days when there's hardly reason to travel my teacher would like the option of teaching those of us not there over the internet, like having a video camera or a webcam in the classroom during class and we could attend by logging on and listening in. How would this be doable? I imagine a digital video camera hooked up to some program would be ideal but that may be too expensive, i dont know i haven't gotten a budget to work on so for now i would like to know what my options are. And what would be good conference programs for streaming? (please excuse my spelling, I don't have time correcting it right now)

hey i want to sort a folder with all mp3's after last modified so the most recent file would be sorted instead i have year and duration and all that crap. I've clicked properties on the folder and customize tab and picked documents for all files and types and moved a few .avi's to the folder but it didn't help, will i have to reboot and tweak or something for settings to take affect?

I need help configuring my wlan. this is how was thinking of having it: adsl modem -----> computer nic1 , (internet connection sharing to nic2) computer nic2 -----> ordinary lan switch -----> wlan accesspoint. this setup for both lan computers to be able to hook up to the switch and get internet and lan. Now, i have a few computers hooked up to the switch among others an xbox. the accesspoint would deliver lan/wlan and internet to 2 desktop computers with wireless adapters and one laptop computer. what are the settings i should use for the wireless part? the accessspoint is an Dlink DWL-G700AP and dlink network cards for all wireless devices.
