Ok, here's how I set my CD up.

I input my Explorer settings into both HIVEDEF.INF and in a registry file in $OEM$. Here's how said registry file is laid out.

So I install XP, hoping the double reminder of the settings would give it the general idea of what I wanted by default. It just HAD to. For the sake of my own fragile sanity.

But, alas, it was not to be.

Above are the settings as I found them when I logged on for the first time. So, after all that complicated HIVE editing and the not-so-complicated reg file creating, it had completely and utterly defied my "Display protected files" request. ONCE A-BLOODY-GAIN.

I also noticed that "ShowSuperHidden" had not even been inserted into the registry, despite my reference to it in both files.

On the plus side, it looked like my "Open in seperate windows" setting had at least been put into effect, thankfully. No reusing the same single window again and again. Wooooooo.

But still. The utter rudeness and rebellious nature of XP completely astounds me. I'd really like to know why MS are still enforcing these particular options to how they want it by default every single time.

Will we EVER successfully defeat the invisible enemy inside this OS? Will we be able to make it crack? I'd be grateful if it was at all possible.

If you mean "Unattended" as in "UnattendedInstall" in [Data], then of course it's set to "Yes".

Yeah, ShowSuperHidden is a known entry which doesn't work (heck, I remember replying on that very note in another thread just today)
