Eruantalince
Hi,while I was configuring a testserver (for http and ftp) on windows 2003, I changed my account name from the standard administrator in my initials. But when I tried to restart, I could not login with both the new account name and Administrator. But I did not change the password.I tried to read the knowledge base of Microsoft and several English and Dutch forums. But On the Dutch forums, they redirect to English answers, which I cannot understand too well (for I do understand English, but not real technical stuff). Still, it will work, if it is explained step by step and not redirecting to other, technical sites. For I have a dual boot PC, I still can work. But I was wondering if there is a way to reset or delete the admin-password for Windows 2003?Thanks in advance.

gamehead200
If you have read some of my recent posts, you would notice that there is something that does this...It is called the Offline NT Password and Registry Editor...And since it was shown on The Screen Savers on TechTV (for this purpose) it is NOT be illegal to use (but is in some countries)...Therefore, do a search for it on Google! Oh yea, and I would recommend blanking it out, NOT resetting it...Basically, this is a Linux kernel that opens up the SAM security file and blanks the password to a certain user account...My system administrators at school are now using it because it is so useful! Discussion of circumventing activation/timebombs will also not be tolerated. If you ignore any of the aforementioned you will receive a final warning. Aaron
The word "cracks" we have outlined in the forum rules means cracks that removes trial/registration/nag screens on a peice of trial software, not password cracking software. Just to clear that up

UICE
As I understand You can "crack" (reset) the Adminpassword in Sam Localy... But only In SAM ...If you are talking about reseting the password in Active directory, I don't think its posible. You would have to open NTDS.dit and modify that ....I do not think this is posible at all.In other words, if you just want to modify a user password from a computer (workstation) you'll in theory have no problem using a program like the one mentioned above. But I do not think you will be able to modify Admins passwords, or any password when those users are in a domain under Active Directory ....Or am I wrong?UI - If you can modify the password in Active Directory Users you would have to do this localy on a DC machine, correct? :/
Eruantalince
Uhm, I think I did not make myself clear .It's concerning a stand-alone computer and I have the right to configure it (no part of a network). It's supposed to be a testserver for a website I'm designing, so it can be reviewed before uploading it (connetion through the internet). And I do not need to know someone else's password, I need to know how I can get to my own password or how to reset it. There are no other users on this one yet, so the admin-account (my account) is the only one.So there is nothing about cracking programs or something, I just like to work again on this computer and configure the testserver.SAM-file... I read about that somewhere. But I did not understand what the exact meaning was and how to reset/decrypt that.I hope this will make it easier for you to answer. un4given1
There is no guarantee that such information would not be used for ill purposes, that is why most forums do not allow such questions. But, they must allow it here. Everything you need to know has already been explained. Read the thread again and you will get your answers
