Big Booger Posted January 15, 2002 Posted January 15, 2002 I don't really know what fastram.sys is, however the name implies RAM as in Random Access Memory. It could be a ram memory manager file, or it could be you have crappy ram. My question is are you/is he installing XP/2K on a clean install as in a format of the HDD, is it a brand new HDD, or what? When do you receive the following error, also are you installing a borrowed/evaluation copy of XP/2K or have you purchased the legitimate OS?Big Booger:assshake
Reverend Posted January 15, 2002 Posted January 15, 2002 I could be wrong but is'nt fastram.sys a dos file relating to Ramdisk? :confused
Big Booger Posted January 16, 2002 Posted January 16, 2002 never thought about that one, but why would he be using a ramdisk in during an installation of XP? Strange indeed!big booger
LS_Dragons Posted January 18, 2002 Posted January 18, 2002 Might be that during setup, windows does set up a RAM DISK - this is what lets it restart and pick up where it left off. I would suggest re-burning the XP setup cd. If it is 'real retail' - sounds like you are screwed.LS
Big Booger Posted January 18, 2002 Posted January 18, 2002 I thought when you restarted you loose all the information in the ramdisk, that is AFAIK. Maybe I need to study up a bit more on ramdisks.Big Booger
lfotto Posted January 25, 2002 Posted January 25, 2002 Sound to me like someone is trying to install Windows XP by booting up with a Windows 98 or ME Rescue disk. They setup a ramdisk to hold utilities for troubleshooting. There's my two cents worth.
