Hello everyone,

I assume I have run into an weird problem since I have replaced my Normal Windows XP Professional SP 2 with Windows XP Media Center Edition, but I am not sure that it’s the reason. The problem is: my CD ROM doesn’t read all sessions of a multi-session CD, to be more specific it always reads always only the first session, no matter what CD I try. I think you will agree with me that it’s a pretty idiotic situation considering that I am on Acer TravelMate 290 laptop, with Intel Pentium M, 1400 MHz Centrino Mobile Technology (which means I am on a quite decent machine, not some old tractor)

I always use Nero version 6, and in all other CD ROMs all sessions on my multi-session CDs can be read fine.

Does anyone think there a solution? A registry key modification, latest CD ROM drivers, anything?

Forgot to mention that even though CD ROM doesn’t see all sessions except the first one, I still can see and save all sessions using Nero session viewer or WinISO on the same Acer computer, same CD ROM

If after all there isn’t a solution to fix the issue, I’d greatly appreciate a suggestion on which program like WinISO I the best for retrieving sessions from a multi-session CD?

give both a try, if the data is on the cd, both should be able to extract it

You could also try looking for any firmware "flash" updates for the CD Writer....I know that most companies are pretty good for this. It works as follows:

Utility to communicate with the writer

XXXX.FLASH FILE to u/g the Firmware

Does a quick communication test

Restart the computer

Tried finding a quicklink for you....can't....what brand is the CD Writer?

Possibly the CD Writing program isn't function correctly as well?

IsoBuster and WinISO are totally different programs. This mix-up happens all the time, people confuse IsoBuster with UltraISO/WinISO/PowerISO/MagicISO....

IsoBuster is a CD/DVD Data recovery program- NOT an ISO editing program!

Infact, IsoBuster is the best CD/DVD recovery program out there. I've tried the top 5 such programs, and only IsoBuster was able to recover data from my scratched, incomplete, UDF Video DVD!

uh, the guy wasn't complaining about being able to read from a damaged CD....he was talking about not being able to burn a Multisession CD! where'd the translation get lost in all of this?

Er, no. He says:

and the title clearly says: "CD ROM wouldn’t read all sessions of a multi-session CD"

My DVD Drive is:

QSI CDRW/DVD SBW-242

DVD-ROM/CD-RW DVD:8x, CD:24x/10x/24x

and yes, i am trying to make it display all sessions of a multi-session CD, rather than recover data from damaged CD/DVD

But its nice to know too what software is the best for recovering data from bad CD/DVD as well

So, it looks like isobuster can recover data from iso track on my multi-session CDs, right?

And if i got it right, WinISO is for editing ISO files, right?

•Check Windows Update if there's any hotfix related to Windows MCE and multisession/optical drives driver.

•Remove the drive from Device Manager and reboot. If it's not automatically detected, go back there and search for new hardware.

•Try to force install an ASPI layer.

No, updating drivers and firmware is different. Firmware is the software thats present inside your drive. Usually updating the firmware fixes bugs and adds new functionality.

To get the latest firmware, go to your manufacturers website.

Hello to you too! Please check this page for a firmware update. Make sure you get the one for your version of the drive (Dell or Sony), otherwise you may irreversibly damage the drive!
