hi all,

in the same way that PC3200 RAM is backwards compatible and can run at PC2100 speeds, can the same be done with a processor?

at the minute i have a Pentium 4 630 3.0GHZ at 800mhz FSB (skt 775),

if i buy a core2 duo (skt 775) running at 1066mhz FSB will it still run albeit a little slower? or will it not run at all?

thanks for your time :)

well core 2 duo are skt 775 and so is my motherboard, so i believe it will fit at least.

my question is will the fsb be an issue? my board supports upto 800mhz fsb but the core 2 im looking at it is 1066 mhz fsb.

do u understand the question now nitroshift?

what motherboard do you have?

if it doesn't support the technology, it wont work.

look up the specs from the board, and it will give you a list of compatible processors.

because a motherboard is socket 775 doesn't mean it will run a Core 2 Duo.

its no different than with the old slot1 type processors...2.8v slots and 5/12v slots...they wouldn't run in alternate slots, instead the system would play dead. if you had the correct BIOS update, sometimes the CPU would take the voltage.

eyeball, check what ripken and bonnestone have said. I do have a socket 775 board (see sig) and it own't take c2duo and there are no BIOS updates available either :realmad: Fitting and working is not the same.
