pcandpc
Hi,I've been noticing some streaks of noticeablelines on printouts from my laser printer recently. After inspecting the drum unit (cartridge), I'veseen some toner dust line streaks on the drum.Is there a way to clean this toner dust off ofthe drum nicely?I've tried cleaning with some Q-Tips (cotton sticks),but the line streaks always come back.By the way, is this (cleaning the drum unit) somethingI can do, or should I just replace the whole cartridge unit? Thanks. pcandpc
Hi ripken204,Thanks for your feedback. Most likely, my printer doesn't have sucha nice feature as it's much older than yours. But, I'll look into that.Just in case though, what if there isn't sucha cleaning feature? What should I do?

DigeratiPrime
you can just buy and replace the drum and keep the toner catridge to save money. Drums do good bad after a while. What model printer/toner is it?@ripken204 I think pcandpc is using a Laser printer not an Ink Jet.

pcandpc
Hi ripken204 and digeratiprime,Thanks for your feedbacks. The printer is Brother MFC 4450.I've visited a local office supply storeand discussed the issue. Most likely,I'll have to replace the drum unit. But then, it's quite expensive ($189);it's almost the same price for buyinga new printer.Right now, the print quality isn't that bad,so, I'll just keep using it around for a while. If anyone has any ideas on cleaning this drumunit so nicely, please let me know. nmX.Memnoch
Look around the web...sometimes you can find the drum units at better prices. I found yours on the following site for $135:http://www.superwarehouse.com/Brother_Drum...t/DR200/p/11424Here's another place that has it for ~$80:http://www.abcink.com/brother-dr200-compat...cartridges.htmlYou can also look for remanufactured ones. Those are typically cheaper. You may also find places that will give you the "core charge" back in return for your old drum unit (which they'll remanufacture). pcandpc
Hi,By the way, can I just clean the drum unitby soaking it in the water, or is this forbidden?Of course, I will thoroughly dry it before use.Thanks.
puntoMX
No, Never do that. Listen, the brushes that clean the drum are old and need to be replaced, also the waste -compartment could be full.Just buy a new cartridge for 80 bucks, nmX.Memnoch gave you the link .
