XP Home as server?

How did they solve the problem of viruses and everything?

By using basic security measures and common sense. Haven't seen any big virus problem since the blaster days. FUD just like you'd expect it coming from a linux fanboy.

As for my presence here, I am trying to figure out how to to crack Windows XP activation in the VirtualBox that is in My Debian Etch box.

First, you haven't bothered reading the forum rules. This isn't a warez forum. You won't find any info on cracking windows activation here.

Secondly, your presence here also seems to be about spreading lies and FUD, trolling, as well as insulting people.

Who uses Windows? Only idiots.

Coming from someone using Windows in VirtualBox. Bitter sweet irony!

Any ideas?

You're basically asking the user community you just called idiots a second ago (along with like 95% of the world population) to help you? "You're all idiots! Every single one of you! Oh, please help me?" -- what's wrong with that picture? Nevermind it's also illegal and against forum rules?

nmX.Memnoch: why do I see one coming up too?

But why don't they want to activate MY Windows on MY box, then? I'd like to know. I paid them once. How MUCH do they want MORE? As for irony, I suspect that majority of viruses is made in Symantec who are friends of Microsoft. Tha't why I can't use Windows because all the RAM is occupied by Norton Antivirus and Windows defender. And actually Windows are pretty bad. Slow. Subjected to viruses invasion. And so on.

I don't know. Talk to them. I've activated XP inside vmware before without any problems of any kind.

MS and Symantec are hardly friends. Symantec spreads a lot of FUD and lies lately (to try and protect their dying market), and competes against MS in many areas.

Tha't why I can't use Windows because all the RAM is occupied by Norton Antivirus and Windows defender.

If you use Norton junk, you only have yourself to blame...

I solved this problem. There are no viruses in Linux. Linux is fast (faster than Windows) and quite reliable. The only problem is that they don't have some software than I need. That's why I am trying to fix that VirtualBox. I don't want to use activation crack available on the internet. I've just reinstalled Windows on my other drive because of 3000 viruses and who knows what those cracks are stuffed with. Are you sure there is no other way except calling Microsoft directly? If they give me a new product key, will I be able to use it for my real hard drive installation, if I need to reinstall it again?

Blyiss,

This really started out to be a GOOD thread. I think instead of locking this topic they should just lock Blyiss and is IP from entering the board. It is sad when children have to act this way and we have to take the candy away.

OK, guys, I don't want to offend you. If you don't know the answers to my questions, good-by.

I solved this problem. There are no viruses in Linux. Linux is fast (faster than Windows) and quite reliable.

So you solve a security problem not by looking at what you were doing wrong (not patching? using IE? opening all the nekkidpics.jpg.exe in your email? no firewall? running every .exe right off P2P and crack sites?) but by switching to an OS that doesn't run the apps you need. It's not like linux is perfect and doesn't have problems either. All you're doing is moving to a different set of problems and issues, and losing compatibility with countless windows-only apps in the process.

If you don't know the answers to my questions

You've already been answered: call 'em up. You make it sound like it's a big problem to spend 5 minutes on the phone once... And no, there are no legit ways to bypass activation. Once you activate it, then backup your activation for the next time (will work on same hardware/specs).

Thank you, crahak, for your help. I will try to call them, though I can't actually speak English. That's why it's a huge problem for me, but I will try anyway. In Linux I don't need to worry of opening any files and watching porn sites and doing anything I want. And not a single virus can affect my system because it is unwritable. But Linux is made by geeks and enthusiasts. It is perfect for servers but not for desktops, though they made a huge progress. They made a lot of excellent free software, like Firefox, NVU, etc available for Windows and much more unavailable (though I am not sure exactly that it is unavailable) like mPlayer, the media player that supports all the possible formats, Rosegarden, the excellent midi studio for musicians. But only some, not much, software that I need is still unavailable.

Thanks again to everyone who helped me.

Blyiss: Be warned for the next time about anything to bypass windows activation. Btw, you can phone MS as many time as you want to re-activate your product, just say "I have just re-install my system" (excuse me for my language fault too ^^)
