Nicon
Right click, Personalize, Under tasks - Change desktop icons. Just click the Recycle box and you'll be fine.

spacesurfer
Seems accidentally deleting the recycle bin is common since Vista added the "Delete" in the right-click menu. I've done it too, confusing "Delete" with "Empty Recycle Bin".Here's a way you can change the delete function to a search function to prevent accidental delete. Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}\shell\Delete]@="Search""Description"=" Search system files"[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}\shell\Delete\command]@=hex(2):25,00,77,00,69,00,6e,00,64,00,69,00,72,00,25,00,5c,00,65,00,78,00,70,\00,6c,00,6f,00,72,00,65,00,72,00,2e,00,65,00,78,00,65,00,00,00[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}\shell\Delete\ddeexec]@="[FindFolder(\\\"%l\\\", %I)]""NoActivateHandler"=""[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}\shell\Delete\ddeexec\Application]@="Folders"[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}\shell\Delete\ddeexec\topic]@="AppProperties"Oh yeah, this is also in the wrong section, isn't it? CoffeeFiend
Deleting it us not uncommon. It's one of the very first things I do to any PC I normally use. It's a useless bin as far as I'm concerned. I only delete stuff I really mean to delete. But there's the one time where I forgot to disable it before deleting the offending link. Not to worry, one goes under c:\recycler\ (or whatever drive the case may be), right click on the S-1-2* folder, properties, global, then "do not move files to the recycle bin".
