7900gs or 7900gt

hi guys

i want to buy a video card

i am stuck with two card one is 7900gs and other is 7900gt

can anyone tell me which one is better one

as both the cards have almost equal prices

That´s going to be an easy answer; 7900GT.

As far as I know the 7900GS is 50 US$ cheaper eg. 150-200 vs. 200-250. What are the prices you have seen?

a GT is more powerful than a GS.

GT for the price of a GS? Probably not, more likely an overpriced GS.

I had a BFG 7900GS that was actually bad (random skipping during Direct 3D applications). RMAed and a 7900GT showed up instead. Haven't figured if it was a mistake or they're experiencing problems with the 7900GS.

In any event, I noticed no difference in my gaming applications between the two cards running at 1280x1024 (I have an LCD, so that's the limiting factor). According to the numbers, the GT is a more powerful card. Not sure when/whether these 'better' numbers would produce a noticeable difference. Perhaps at higher resolution, I don't know.

Yes, in higher resolutions and AA at max you will see some differences, it also depends on the CPU you are using. The nVidia 8800xx needs the most powerful CPU for example (as they say in Tomshardware page).

the card rates for 7900 gs is 185$ and 7900gt is 199$

as i read in other forums that xfx 7900 gs was good and if overclocked could match 7900gt

and there was no fan or heating problems

7900gt on other hand was as usuall good in graphics but have some problems like high fan sound and heating problems

My 7900GT has fan speed regulation. It's loud as anything when first powering up, but as soon as windows loads the driver - it's nice and quiet. Fan speed is only increased under heavy load, and even then it's really not that loud at all. This is a BFG card, not sure if the other manufacturers have this functionality.

Fot that price I would take the GT, and don´t worry about the fans: They are the same! (Well, depending on the brand but most use the same ones)

but i was still worrying about heating and fan noise because as in india it is very hot in summer

so should it not be a problem to me

You can always buy an aftermarket cooler later from Zalman or Artic Cooling if it get´s to hot or makes to much noise .
