neilm Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 My video card seems to be dying. It runs fine on the desktop and with all of my work stuff, but every game I open gets artifacts all over the screen. I'm wondering if this could be caused by the PSU, because I did get a warning a couple days ago that my video card wasn't receiving enough power, but I thought this was temporary. After looking closer I see that my 12V power is usually around 10.5-11.5 V, is that normal? Lastly, can this cause permanent damage to the card?
Jeremy Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 Always check the 12V lines. You should get yourself a nice Antec 350 or 400W PSU. Artifacts could be power, driver conflict or overheating, or even a low-quality model of a PSU. Some video cards are known to be problematic. How many devices do you have in your PC?
Zxian Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 Ack - get yourself a new PSU - quick! The 12V rail should never go below 11.5 (11.4 is the lower end of the ATX spec IIRC).Could this cause damage to your equipment? Yes! A faulty PSU can provide irregular power to the components, subjecting them to voltage spikes and drops. Electronic components like constant power.Antec and Seasonic are very good PSUs. If I had to choose today, I'd get myself the Seasonic S12-380. It's got enough juice to power just about any decent system out there, but has rock solid stability, and is very quiet.
ripken204 Posted January 13, 2007 Posted January 13, 2007 well how long has this been happening? what are ur video card temps? and are you overclocked at all?
