Before I slipstreamed SP1a, "Close Tray" was an option on the right-click menu of my DVD-RW drive. Now it's no longer there. What gives? Can I add it back?

I'm using Windows XP Pro.

I remember seeing that at one point as well, but I (perhaps incorrectly) attributed the "Close Tray" option to CloneCD, which I had installed. Perhaps you had CloneCD previously? I do not think it is a native XP right click option.

no it isnt, i have never had clone cd, nor have i ever had close tray on right click

Close Tray would be a nice option to have in Windows XP , it only has eject

GreenMachine, as soon as I read your reply I installed CloneCD and sure enough,

it was there again.

But where does the program make this change?

Since there is a way to add Services to the right-click of My Computer shouldn't it be

somewhat the same?

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\CloneCD. It adds a .dll file (ElbyVCDShell.dll) that handles both displaying the option (Close Tray), and performing the action. More than just a registry setting. You could perhaps get away with one DLL and a couple of registry settings, but if you go this far, might as well install the whole thing, no? I install it, and would even consider doing it for that option alone.

Now I just need to know how to silently install CloneCD?

I did a goole search and found a program called CD Ejector. It's a small program residing in the system tray allowing you to open and close the CD tray. It doesn't do what your discussing but in the hands of a professional it may be altered to accomplish your needs.

Any one of the more gifted of us want to tackle this one?

Try this. This exe will close the first CDRom / DVD Rom Drive in the system. You can add this to the context menu or make a shortcut to it.

eject e:

opens the tray

eject e: /l

closes the tray

you'll need some kind of handler to send the right drive letter to the command :/

i have a little app that was fully written in c++ that can open or close any cd-rom or all at the same time.

very handy if used in conjunction with icemanND's cdrom variable creator get it here

need someone to host it for me though, anyone???

Being that ElbyVCDShell.dll is all it adds is the Close Tray should be simple to whip up a small dll to make this work. 76.0 KB is what that is. Theres not much code to it at all. I may try making it soon.
