hougtimo Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 I have an old emachines (1.1Ghz celeron) that I am turning into our families media center pc, and the 32mb onboard graphics won't work with MCE. I went out and bought a 64mb Geforce4 mx440 PCI card. I have put it in and set the primary graphics adapter to PCI in the BIOS, but I get NO output from it at all. Nothing. When i boot using the onboard windows does not recognise that the new card is there, the BIOS doesn't. What have I missed? The computer is an Emachines 140dvd - a.ThanksHougTimo
hougtimo Posted January 10, 2007 Author Posted January 10, 2007 Nevermind. Just noticed the huge scorch marks, and dried on thermal paste on the underside of the card. Looks like the card wasn't new, as they said it was.
bonestonne Posted January 14, 2007 Posted January 14, 2007 just to be curious, was it actually new or open box, or from a person selling it?also, what was cooling it? it takes really poor cooling to kill a graphics card..my fx5200 just has a big heatsink on it [still working on a fan] but i haven't had an issue with it at all.
puntoMX Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 Most GF4 440 have just a 4(d)x4(w)x1(h) cm heat sink with no fan...
