WMPNS.DLL 9.0.0.4503 comes from XP SP3.But I have no idea what bugs have been fixed in this release, because I can't find documentation on this subject. Why there are 2 copies [of the same file] installed in 2 different dirs:%windir%\systemandC:\Program Files\Windows Media Playerthat's because some MS update I installed way back [?] did that, so I presumed they must have had a reason.HTH
March 29, 200917 yr I have a question about uninstalling DRM: it works if I use WMVCORE.DLL version 9.00.00.2980 or 9.00.00.3001 (from Windows Media Update 816044). With version 9.00.00.3355 it does not work. What version of WMVCORE.DLL is recommended for using WMP without DRM?
March 29, 200917 yr On the other hand, I've been using the 6.0.2900.2180 builds of BROWSEWM.DLL SHDOCLC.DLL and SHFOLDER.DLL for about a fortnight now, with no apparent problems happening so far. However, if I ever find any issues with any of them I'll sure post about them. Are they still going strong?I'm still using BROWSEWM.DLL 6.0.2900.2180I've used the other two up to December 2008 with no issues. Then I've downgraded them in the process of trying to catch an elusive bug that turned out to be related to SHDOCVW.DLL 6.0.2800.1923 (now long superceeded) and never went back. At the moment I'm using SHDOCLC.DLL 6.0.2800.1443 and SHFOLDER.DLL 6.0.2800.1106.But I have no evidence that any of the three files ever did cause any issue. You might perhaps test them in your machine for sometime. AFAIK, it's quite safe. The newer Win XP SP3 versions of these three files I didn't test, though, so I don't know whether they work or not.
April 4, 200917 yr Author I have a question about uninstalling DRM: it works if I use WMVCORE.DLL version 9.00.00.2980 or 9.00.00.3001 (from Windows Media Update 816044). With version 9.00.00.3355 it does not work. What version of WMVCORE.DLL is recommended for using WMP without DRM?Thanks for the bug report.I don't have Win98/98SE/ME installed on my PC presently, so I can't test, but I plan on doing this in the near future.I'll post here if I have any results.Anyone tested this?
April 4, 200917 yr I have a question about uninstalling DRM: ...With WMVCORE.DLL version 9.00.00.3355 it does not work. Thanks for the bug report.Anyone tested this?Yeppers...After uninstalling DRM (all it's files and registry entries), you need to place DRMCLIEN.DLL back into your WINDOWS\SYSTEM folder...DRMCLIEN.DLL does not need to be registered... it just needs to be there... as WMVCORE.DLL has a "dependency" on DRMCLIEN.DLL, and will not function correctly without it... April 6, 200917 yr Where did you get WMVCORE.DLL 9.0.0.4503 + DRMCLIEN.DLL 9.0.0.4503 from?Heh ... from the MP9URP9X update before the following one:New MP9URP9X February 2009 release:Unofficial Windows Media Player 9.0 (WMP9) Update Rollup Packs (URP) for Windows 98/98 SP1/98 SE/ME install ALL previously released WMP9 Hotfixes, Patches + Updates:WMP9URP February 2009 for Windows 98/98 SP1/98 SE/ME [9.07 MB, English]:http://www.mdgx.com/spx/MP9URP9X.EXEThe Feb. update has a newer ones... 9.00.00.4504I just haven't installed it yet...
April 11, 200917 yr After uninstalling DRM (all it's files and registry entries), you need to place DRMCLIEN.DLL back into your WINDOWS\SYSTEM folder...But older versions of wmvcore.dll work without drmclien.dll (in this versions drmclien.dll is delay-load dependency module) !!!
April 12, 200917 yr But older versions of wmvcore.dll work without drmclien.dll (in this versions drmclien.dll is delay-load dependency module) !!!Then you should stick with the latest version of WMVCORE.DLL that works for you (without a dependency on DRMCLIEN.DLL)...But, as I stated above, it's OK to use the newest version... you are still removing DRM (and all it's files / registry entries)...DRM will not function even if DRMCLIEN.DLL is in your SYSTEM folder...DRMCLIEN.DLL has been unregistered... and all other DRM files and registry entries are gone...
April 12, 200917 yr it's OK to use the newest version...Why?DRM will not function even if DRMCLIEN.DLL is in your SYSTEM folder...I want to not include any DRM files in codec pack.
April 12, 200917 yr it's OK to use the newest version...Why?As I stated above...You are still removing DRM (and almost all it's files / registry entries)...DRM will not function even if DRMCLIEN.DLL is in your SYSTEM folder...DRMCLIEN.DLL has been unregistered... and all other DRM files and registry entries are gone...DRM will not function even if DRMCLIEN.DLL is in your SYSTEM folder...I want to not include any DRM files in codec pack. Then you should stick with the last version of WMVCORE.DLL that works for you (without a dependency on DRMCLIEN.DLL)...
April 13, 200917 yr As I stated above......Too big letters....My question was: Why your preferred version is newest? What is better in latest version?
