Monitor off on Lid off

MtK

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have my Power Settings set as folows:

  • (Plugged in settings)
Monitor Off after 20min & do thing when I close the Lid.
  • (On Battery settings)
Monitor Off after 20min & Sleep on Lid down.

the problem is that when I'm plugged in & close my Lid the monitor turns off, but when I open the Lid it never turns on.

How can I fix it or at least check the source of the problem?

Sounds like something is not set properly in the power profile. Did you save the changes to the power profile? Look in the advanced power settings at the profile your using, you will find lots of things there you can set.

That is normal. My laptop does the same thing.

You're supposed to press the Power button after opening the lid.

Basically, the lid doesn't act as a power switch, and needs the software to check its state (that's why it can turn *off* the computer, but never *on*).

but the computer isn't turned off at all.

power/hd/network/num/caps leds are on on working...

I had this problem when I set in my power options to standby the laptop when the lid was closed. But because I shared media with my xbox360, I have Always-Available enabled so the machine doesn't fully go into standby, rather a lower power state. Whenever I opened the lid again though, it would not come back on, and it was hit-or-miss as to whether the power button would bring it back to life. Sometimes it did, sometimes it didn't.

I now have just set it to turn my screen off - like you - and it works fine now. What laptop do you have MtK?

Broken lid switch? The screen is supposed to turn off, but so is the computer.

as much as I don't like the idea, it's possible.

but I still don't understand why the computer should go off...? who asked for it?

Off or sleep, it's much the same thing.

The point is that the lid switch sends a signal to the OS which then decides what to do.

so, you're saying that my lid is not sending a msg to the OS?

but the monitor does go off on lid close...

just not om again.

I don't want it to sleep or turn off the OS...
